Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

Everyone loves the shiny new toy until it’s no longer fun to play with.

That’s the current theme coming out of Steelers Nation to start the New Year, as fans are forgetting about the Steelers quarterback situation actually being a fairly good one!

With as many as five passers under contract, including a future Hall of Famer in Ben Roethlisberger, some fans are still clamoring for a big free agent acquisition or drafting a college prospect.

Joe Kuzma and Brian E. Roach explain why this thought process is a bad idea and even if the Steelers were to have a rough go of it, with or without Roethlisberger playing in the near future, it’s because of Big Ben that the team is still setup for future success.

It’s not Festivus, but Joe and Brian still have a bone to pick with people!

Pittsburgh Steelers fans have gone into pandemonium over the least important issues over the last week, many of which aren’t going to happen (for one reason or another) or simply aren’t true!

The hosts put their heads together to make sense of many statements including Ben Roethlisberger’s return (and his weight), James Conner getting “cut”, firing coaches, and drafting quarterbacks.

They also give their picks for Wild Card weekend in the NFL Playoffs.

Joe Kuzma and Brian E. Roach embark on a mission to talk Steelers fans off of a proverbial cliff in this edition of the Steel City Underground Podcast.

Following an ugly 28-10 defeat by the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, the Steelers rollercoaster 2019 season comes screeching to a halt. However, it was a fun ride for a variety of reasons, including not knowing what destination the team was headed in at the end.

The hosts give an overview of the season and discuss the shortcomings from the Ravens loss, as well as give some rational thoughts on “not firing” a whole bunch of people within the organization!

Joe Kuzma and Brian E. Roach return to contemplate the Steelers rollercoaster 2019 season and if it ends in Baltimore this Sunday against the Ravens, or continues forward into the playoffs.

The Ravens are expected to rest starters in a “meaningless” game, as they’ve already locked up the division and top seed in the AFC, which could give this matchup more of a “preseason” feel than usual as the Steelers limp into M&T Bank Stadium like some wounded ducks!

Hear what the hosts also have to say about the signing of former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, and a designation to return set for Roosevelt Nix and Ryan Switzer.

Snake-bitten by injuries all season long, has the “next man up” changes finally caught up to the Steelers? Is Pittsburgh still in contention for a postseason spot and what will it take to secure the sixth seed in the AFC playoff bracket next week?

The duo answers these questions and more in this frustrating episode!

Joe and Brian are back to discuss the Steelers odds of making the playoffs, which requires a win this weekend on the road against the New York Jets in order to maintain their driver’s seat position of holding onto the AFC’s sixth seed.

The Jets are not a good football team, which bodes well for the Steelers chances Sunday as they, and QB Duck Hodges, look to rebound on offense. Pittsburgh’s defense, like every game this season, should push the Black and Gold over the top.

Hear what the hosts think about this matchup and the ramifications it could have on the Steelers season as it winds down.

Joe and Brian are here on an “Overreaction Monday” to talk Steelers Nation off of a cliff following a 17-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills to close out Pittsburgh’s final home game at Heinz Field for the 2019 NFL season.

The game plan left much to be desired in what some are looking at as a disappointing loss. However, that doesn’t mean anyone should be fired, but there are some fingers to point around the organization when it comes to Duck Hodges “killing” the team on Sunday.

The hosts discuss this storyline, the likelihood of seeing Mason Rudolph again this season, as well as the Steelers playoff chances and what they have to do in order to make the postseason.

This Sunday at Heinz Field, two teams jockeying for playoff position, which also happen to be spitting images of one another, will do battle as the Buffalo Bills travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.

With each team holding onto a current Wild Card spot, Joe and Brian discuss the ramifications regardless of who wins and how the Steelers path is best set by “upsetting” a Bills team currently favored by a point-and-a-half on the road.
