Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

Move on from Ben! Move on from Mason! Duck isn’t the answer… Sign a veteran quarterback! Draft a quarterback!

These are some of the things Joe and Brian have heard in Steelers circles over the last few weeks, especially so following Art Rooney II’s interview where he proclaimed that the organization was “comfortable” with Mason Rudolph as their backup quarterback and their overall situation at the position.

The hosts address why the Steelers Team President’s comments are not only justified, but how the organization can’t do much of anything else in terms of signing or drafting another signal caller this season: and why that’s not a “sky is falling” scenario in the Steel City.

Joe Kuzma and Zach Metkler preview the opening weekend of the “new” XFL professional football league in the latest edition of the Steel City Underground Podcast.

Steelers fans may be in arms as to whether to watch the fledgling league or not: and if you do, who do you support?

With no team in close proximity to Pittsburgh, there are several teams with ties to the Steelers. Those former bonds include coaches and players who were everything from solid contributors to those who didn’t stick around long.

The duo has compiled the most thorough list of former Steelers involved with the XFL heading into this weekend, and will also detail many of the league’s innovations and rule changes you need to know before tuning in for the games.

After a short hiatus, Joe Kuzma rejoins Brian E. Roach to discuss the Steelers impending free agents: both restricted and unrestricted.

With a very short budget to work with this offseason, Pittsburgh will have a number of difficult decisions to make in who they re-sign and who they let go. With one name atop the "priority" list of players to bring back, other moves could drastically change the composition of 2019's team heading into the 2020.

Hot off the heels of the NCAA Football’s National Championship game, Steelers Nation is already asking questions about a potential pairing of LSU’s star quarterback Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals currently hold the top pick in this year’s NFL Draft and selecting Burrow would be the “can’t miss” option early for Cincinnati.

However, that doesn’t mean instant success for the Bengals, or any team for that matter. Joe and Brian dig into the details of Burrow potentially playing in the AFC North and what that will mean, not only for the Steelers, but also the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

The hosts also highlight Bill Cowher’s Hall of Fame induction, which may be an early indication of a Steelers Nation invasion of Canton, Ohio later this year, as well as this weekend’s games and why Jim Harbaugh’s success, and failure, mirrors that of Mike Tomlin’s.

With a number of players set to hit free agency this upcoming offseason, including a “high priority” one with Bud Dupree, fans have started to speculate on how the Steelers can bring these players back into the fold for the 2020 season.

As a cash-strapped franchise, some of that speculation involves releasing a number of other current players in order to create the necessary cap space too bring the impending free agents back.

Joe and Brian dig into why some of these ideas are a really bad idea, while also looking at ways the team could create cap room.
