  • Why aren’t the Pittsburgh Steelers getting any respect this offseason?
Comedian Rodney Dangerfield’s most recognizable line was “I get no respect.”
We think Rodney could relate to the 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers, who are seemingly passed over by every media outlet and pundit out there this offseason!
On today’s episode, Joe and Brian discuss some of the areas where the Steelers, as a team, or individual Steelers, aren’t given the recognition they feel is deserved.

  • When the game is on the line, do you want Ben Roethlisberger or someone else?
Joe and Brian delve into a stats deep dive on fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives in the latest edition of the Steel City Underground Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast.
Today’s edition is partially sponsored (not) by NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. A recent segment on their program asked which quarterback you’d rather have when the game is on the line. With only two names brought up, our brain trust started thinking: “What about Big Ben?”
Turns out, Ben Roethlisberger is one of the masters of leading his time from behind to victory. However, there are others who are surprisingly good as well… and others who you may not believe are at the bottom of our analysis.
Listen in to find out who ranks where and don’t tune out at the end as we acknowledge a few fan-submitted questions/comments and wrap with some current Steelers news.

  • A super-early Steelers 53-man roster projection
They haven’t even put on pads yet, but that’s not stopping Joe and Brian from making a ridiculously early 53-man roster projection for the 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers.
Just on paper, this year’s team didn’t have many holes entering the offseason. As those gaps were filled via free agency and the draft, the final regular season roster becomes clearer. However, will every added player make the team?
Joe and Brian discuss early “roster bubble” candidates as well which camp battles are likely to be the hottest, the chances of all NINE Steelers draft picks making the cut at the end of the preseason, and whether or not any undrafted players have a shot at making the squad.

  • Are the Steelers WRs better, or worse, heading into this season?
Joe and Brian are back to bang out the final of their position group breakdowns, this time turning their attention to the Steelers wide receivers.
The group looks drastically different than the same one that was around this time last year. The hosts will look at those changes and also discuss how the departure of Antonio Brown may or may not alter the Steelers fortunes this season.

  • How much depth do the Steelers have at safety?
Brian is joined by the "Professor of Football" Zach Metkler as SCU continues its breakdown of the Pittsburgh Steelers positional groups, this time analyzing the safeties.
Zach and Brian look at who may be locks to make the roster, plus dark horses who may have the best shot to hang on… and who continues to get "No respect, no respect at all."

  • Steelers operating “drama-free” and a look at the O-Line
Joe and Brian dig into some side stories from the Steelers offseason including some snippets from OTA’s, where the team appears to be bonding more than ever. That family bond has also caused some backlash to anyone questioning whether or not the team still has off-field issues: but the players insist they are operating “drama-free” following the departure of a couple of players. (Who are ironically causing headache for their new teams!)
The duo jumps to their next roster position preview, breaking down the offensive line. What has changed, what hasn’t, and what may Big Ben’s protectors look like in 2019?

  • Steelers linebackers may be their best group in years
Burning questions will be answered in this episode of the Steel City Underground Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast as Joe and Brian have a look at this year’s linebacker group.
The organization attacked a need at the inside linebacker position this offseason by acquiring several players in free agency or the draft. When compared to the last few depth charts, minus Ryan Shazier, hosts Joe and Brian make a case for why the 2019 group may be the strongest the Steelers have had since “Shazam’s” unfortunate injury.
The spotlight then shines on the outside linebackers: the Steelers didn’t make a lot of moves with their edge rushers, but as the hosts explain, maybe they didn’t have to make those moves based on who they have as well as recent additions to the roster.
In all, the linebackers are the lifeblood of the Steelers defense and we’ll see why this year’s personnel may be the best they’ve had in a while. Also, the duo also kicks off the show with a few notes they left out of the running back breakdown… so make sure you don’t miss this episode!

  • Realistic expectations for the Steelers running backs in 2019
Joe and Brian bounce back to the offense this time as they continue their position group analysis for the 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers.
This time the hosts teardown the running back depth chart. Steelers Nation is giddy over the addition of fourth-round draft pick Benny Snell, but where and how does he fit into the offense’s workload?
The better question is, will he factor in much at all this season?
That answer is left to analyzing Pro Bowl running back James Conner and his three-game 2018 replacement, second-year pro Jaylen Samuels. The Steelers may be the deepest they’ve been in years at the running back position, but history tells us that the coaching staff may prefer a certain way to approach splitting carries.
The recent pattern Joe and Brian breakdown is why fans may need to temper their expectations for the young backs this upcoming season.
