Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

Joe and Brian bounce back to the offense this time as they continue their position group analysis for the 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers.

This time the hosts teardown the running back depth chart. Steelers Nation is giddy over the addition of fourth-round draft pick Benny Snell, but where and how does he fit into the offense’s workload?

The better question is, will he factor in much at all this season?

That answer is left to analyzing Pro Bowl running back James Conner and his three-game 2018 replacement, second-year pro Jaylen Samuels. The Steelers may be the deepest they’ve been in years at the running back position, but history tells us that the coaching staff may prefer a certain way to approach splitting carries.

The recent pattern Joe and Brian breakdown is why fans may need to temper their expectations for the young backs this upcoming season.

Joe and Brian continue their position group analysis but shifting to the defensive side of the ball and ask this question: are the Steelers cornerbacks now among the league’s best?

As preposterous as that may seem to those who have followed the secondary’s woes for the better part of this decade, the 2019 Pittsburgh Steelers could feature the best cornerback unit since their last trip to the Super Bowl. The hosts breakdown the Steelers players at this position and compare their depth with that of the rest of the NFL.

Let’s just say the answer the arrive at may surprise you!

Joe and Brian are back after a short break to detour away from position group grading for one moment in order to address all of the ludicrous comments floating around Steelers Nation!

Among the topics discussed are trading/cutting certain players such as Bud Dupree and Artie Burns, whether any wide receiver help is still needed (and why anyone thinks a player with the last name “Bryant” would help said cause) as well as the surging popularity of Benny Snell and the notion that James Conner would be benched as the starter!

Fans: just stop it! The duo will tell you why as they address these pet peeves and then some on a special edition of the Steel City Underground Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast.

Joe and Brian return to talk about one of the locked-in position groups on the Pittsburgh Steelers this season: the quarterbacks!

We all know that Ben Roethlisberger just made bank and will be the starter, but what about a potential camp battle for Big Ben’s backup spot? And just what do we make of Roethlisberger’s new contract when compared to those of his peers as well as how it affects Joshua Dobbs and Mason Rudolph?
