Pittsburgh Steelers Podcast | Steel City Underground

The Internet is still ablaze with Le’Veon Bell talk, so today’s SCU Steelers Podcast bumps our AFC North depth chart series for more discussion on the All-Pro running back.

With NFL teams, including four of the previous Super Bowl participants, using a running back by committee approach as well as other teams deploying young, cheap runners on rookie contracts, can the Steelers justify sinking nearly twice as much as the next-highest paid player at the position on Le’Veon?

Joe Kuzma pilots this episode solo to cover some new ground Brian left out, as well as reinforce a few points he made on the last show. Joe will also add salary cap hits for those teams using committees, and how the Steelers aren’t averse to the idea, having used it more than once during Mike Tomlin’s tenure.

There’s also talk about how both, the Steelers and Bell, could fare, should the two part ways in the near future. (But in no way will that be via a trade!)

Brian takes to the air in this special video edition of the Steel City Underground Podcast to discuss the Le'Veon Bell contract “situation”.

What does Bell's decision to turn down the Steelers offer mean for 2018 and beyond?

Is Bell betting, with or against, the odds when he bets on himself as a "to-be" 27-year-old running back with another season of mileage on his odometer?

Brian looks at what the Steelers might do and why he thinks Bell is taking a “sucker bet” with long odds by passing on the reported team offer.

On today’s episode, Brian and Joe continue looking at the Steelers 2018 regular season opponents within the AFC North.

Who better to look at during this show than “Who Dey?” That is, the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals have missed the postseason for the last two season, failing to reach .500 both times and ranking only ahead of the Cleveland Browns (who have only one a single game in that time span).

With another offseason to fix their team, have the Bengals improved at all? Tune in as Joe and Brian breakdown Cincy’s depth chart and predict whether or not the ugly orange-striped team from “Northern Kentucky” is any better, or worse, than their previous incarnation.

(Sorry Bengals fans: we had to take at least one shot at your team in the show notes!)

Brian and Joe begin looking at the Steelers 2018 regular season opponents beginning within their own division, the AFC North.

Since Pittsburgh will play their division opponents twice, the pair of hosts will focus an individual episode on each of the three teams, beginning with the Cleveland Browns.

Having only won a single game in two seasons there isn’t anywhere for Cleveland to go but up. But how much have they improved since last season?

The Steelers fanatics breakdown the Browns by comparing last year’s depth chart to an early pre-camp prediction to see where Cleveland has gotten better… or worse!

Recently, NFL Network analyst and former NFL quarterback David Carr released a list of his top ten quarterbacks in the league.

Usually, this wouldn’t make headlines, but since Mr. Carr failed to include a certain Pittsburgh Steelers passer on his list (and no I’m not talking about Landry Jones) some of us in the Steel City took offense to his rankings.

Today, Joe and Brian discuss David Carr’s top ten choices and why it looks like the former number one overall pick by the Houston Texans in 2012 is sowing sour grapes as opposed to objectively looking at how one of the game’s greats makes others look good.

It’s not the first, and certainly won’t be the last time Big Ben is shown a lack of respect. But don’t worry Ben, Steelers Nation always has your back.

It may not be common knowledge, but a large portion of Steelers Nation doesn’t live in Pittsburgh.

Well, Heinz Field is the Mecca of Steelers fandom, everyone can’t get to a game there. That’s why our avid traveler, Terry Fletcher, has started a new SCU series “Steelers Nation Across the Nation” where she will take you on a virtual walk across the country to find the best Steelers bars, fan clubs, and places to watch games.

On today’s episode, Terry talks about food options and prices, plus a few sidebar items during the offseason.

Be sure to tune in as Ms. Fletcher takes us on a trip throughout the country, stopping in a new place to watch the game and get some grub!

Joe jumps on the mic on today’s episode to address listener feedback regarding a variety of game day topics.

While “what to do in Pittsburgh” can depend on an individual’s taste, a few suggestions are made by our host before diving into the details of purchasing tickets, arriving at Heinz Field, and of course, a number of suggestions pertaining to pregame parties and tailgating.

We’re aware it’s not a “football X’s and O’s” style show, but hopefully, these tips and tricks help beginners make the most of their game day experience, and novices discover something new to add to their Steelers addiction.

We’ve talked about free agency. We’ve talked about the draft. We’ve talked offense and defense and everything in between.

But what haven’t Joe and Brian discussed?

Whether or not these changes are for better… or for worse.

Today’s podcast focuses on the Steelers key additions and losses this offseason. Do these changes project to be an upgrade, or a downgrade, in Pittsburgh’s quest for a seventh Lombardi trophy?
