In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk to Dr. Melanie Joy about improving relationships and the theory behind Beyond Carnism. Food is something very personal to us. We have been taught the ideology of food just like religion. Dr. Joy helps us unpack why we are so connected to the food we eat and the pets we live with. What we think you will be most interested to hear about is how we can maintain our good relationships or even improve our tarnished relationships around the area of food. As a psychologist and relationship specialist, she has unlocked the important aspects of talking to your partner about becoming plant-based or vegan. And how to keep things happy in a "mixed" relationship, and how not to get divorced! Dr. Melanie Joy is a Harvard-educated psychologist, international speaker, organizational consultant, trainer, and relationship coach. She is the author of the award-winning book Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism, as well as Strategic Action for Animals and the award-winning book Beyond Beliefs: A Guide to Improving Relationships and Communication for Vegans, Vegetarians, and Meat Eaters. Dr. Joy has developed and implemented vegan advocacy training for more than a decade, and she specializes in effective communication, organizational leadership, the psychology of social change, interpersonal relationships, and preventing and treating burnout. She has trained vegan advocates and given her acclaimed carnism presentation on six continents and her work has been featured in major media outlets around the world. Dr. Joy is the eighth recipient of the Ahimsa Award – previously given to the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela – for her work on global nonviolence. She also received the Empty Cages Prize – previously given to Tom Regan – for her contribution to furthering the cause of animal rights. As well as the Peter Singer Prize for strategies to reduce the suffering of animals. The video of her recent TEDx talk on carnism is in the top 1% of the most-viewed TEDx talks of all time. Dr. Joy is also the founding president of the charitable organization, Beyond Carnism, a co-founder of ProVeg International, and the co-director of the Center for Effective Vegan Advocacy (CEVA). • A Special Episode on The Truth About Superfoods – PTP262
In today's episode of the Plant Trainers Podcast, we have decided to play a recording of a Live video Shoshana did a little bit ago all about superfoods! They are exactly that, SUPER. Filled with amazing benefits for the body. But the term has "bean" used as a marketing tool to get your attention. Just because an item on the shelf has superfood written all over it, doesn't mean it's a winner for your health. On top of that, many people think they can't go plant-based because it will just cost too much to keep their pantry stocked with exotic and rare seeds and powders. We don't give a "guac" what other people say, superfoods can be cheap and readily available in your regular grocery stores. So give a listen to the interactive Facebook Live Shoshana did about these foods we love "berry" much and some "asparagus tips" for using them. Our only regret is that there was not more time to cover some other items like the puns from this introduction. And be sure to check us out on our Plant Trainers Facebook page or @planttrainers on Instagram to get an update on how to find out about our Next Facebook live. In this episode we discuss: What is so special about these foods? Our top 5 The incredible benefits Potential downfalls How to use them Are they expensive? But the success is that we are all here today, sharing their story and hearing about the amazing documentary, Eating You Alive (in which they are featured). Jeff is an extremely motivational guy and he actually has a lot in common with Adam. After recognizing the signs that his diet was not supporting his body the best way it could, he made some drastic changes and never looked back. Kicking bad habits, following your destiny and healing is not an easy thing. Adam and Jeff share some of their insight into what helped them make a very fast change and stick with it long term embracing it as a new lifestyle and everyday reality. After gymnastics ended, he became certified as a personal fitness trainer and continued his education on how to design his perfect body and help others design theirs as well. As he approached his 40's, he was suffering from many symptoms of ill health such as Rosacea, intestinal bloating, constipation, joint inflammation, and allergies and no longer recognized himself as that young, fit and clean looking athlete he once was. As a father of 2 magnificent boys he wanted to age powerfully and gracefully for them and now he's doing just that. Not only is he helping his family by becoming the strongest, healthiest version of himself, he's also helping to create positive change for the animals and the environment which are both suffering due to the animal product industries.
