Clive Larkman is an Aussie grower that writes for our sponsor Hort Journal Australia and really knows his herbs. Together with his wife Di, he runs Larkman Nurseries in Victoria, and he's also one of the growers for Renaissance herbs who distribute plants around the country.
In this episode, Karen Smith, editor for the Journal and I interview him to see if we can understand a bit more about herbs, how to grow them, and how to sell them to consumers.
If you'd like to read some of Clive's previous work, you can find it through the Hort Journal's website below. Subscribe for future editions and keep your workplace toilet stocked up with quality educational material from a reputable source.

As a horticulturist working in the maintenance sector, I can appreciate the importance of connecting people from different sectors so we can all learn from each other. In this episode, the editor of the best and only Aussie horticultural industry magazine, Karen Smith explains why this is so important, and how Hort Journal Australia has aimed to be the conduit connecting industry people since it began in 2008. This episode is sponsored but it's been designed to provide serious value for the listener - not only for the sponsor!

Ben Courtice is an ecologist, botanist and bush regenerator working for a company on behalf of council around the Melbourne area, and he knows native grasses. In this episode, he shares his wisdom so that we can approach this type of plant with confidence. There are a range of habitat and amenity services that our native Aussie grasses can provide, so there's really no excuse to use invasive ornamental grasses in our gardens any more.

Ben Sims is a landscape business owner and a board member for the Landscape Industry Association of Western Australia (LIAWA), and in this episode he's back to teach us about wildflowers, specifically in the massive Aussie state of WA. Ian Smith is an extension worker consulting with farmers in the basaltic plains just west of Melbourne. He did his PhD thesis on shelterbelts, so I thought I'd get him on the show to teach us about this interesting and important topic! We discuss what shelterbelts are, why farmers are "wasting" space putting them in, and how they can be important for reasons beyond wind control and yield benefits for farmers.
