#AIESEPConnect is the name of our new AIESEP Global Outreach Programme.

It provides a space where members can critically engage with ‘hot’ topics that are linked to the core mission of AIESEP. It is a monthly engagement, a one-hour on-line session on the last Friday of each month. The timing of the session changes to ensure that we have global engagement in #AIESEPConnect sessions.

Dr. Shelby Ison is a visiting scholar at Northern Illinois University and joins me to discuss the article Another Decade of Qualitative Research in the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education published with Kevin Andrew Richards, Michael Hemphill, and Thomas Templin. We talk about the qualitative research published in the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education from 2009 and 2019 and discuss the implications and suggestions for future research.

This session was an interesting, thought provoking, yet PE practice-oriented session on the topic of improving the quality of PE teaching through digital tools. The session was hosted by Menno Slingerland and the speakers were  Kathrin Kohake, Gwen Weeldenburg and Arne Bouten. 

Here was the prompt for the session:

All three presenters are involved in projects in which digital media and tools are being developed with the purpose of supporting PE teachers in enhancing their teaching effectiveness and overall teaching quality. Kathrin Kohake will present research on an observation instrument aimed at strengthening pedagogical competences of pre-service PE teachers. Gwen Weeldenburg will present the TARGET tool, a systematically developed interactive tool to support PE teachers in optimizing the PE learning environment. Arne Bouten will present an online tool that analyzes PE teachers’ (de)motivating teaching styles and informs on how to improve on these aspects of teaching.

The presentation format will be short presentations with room for questions and discussion. We hope to welcome you online!
