Green screen technology has grown up over the years. From the days where you knew when it was being used, which wasn't that long ago, to the days where an entire virtual set can be created to rival the looks of a major broadcast studio.

vStudio, a product from Darim Broadcasting, is a collection of virtual sets that won't break the bank. Designed for small studios, such as podcasters, these virtual sets allow broadcasters to focus on content and not worry about context.

3D printing is a fairly fascinating concept: create a digital version of an item through software and then print a physical version of it. Everything from glasses to guns have been created using this process; even Nokia is getting in on the game with Lumia cases.

The problem is the resolution. Most 3D printing is done with a process that is similar to looping hot glue around in circles until it dries. This creates very obvious rings that make it hard to use for any kind of professional project.

Formlabs has created a new concept for their printers that uses a tray of liquid that is heated in very small layers (25 microns) with an even finer laser. The platform then moves up preparing for the next layer. The end result is a professional quality product with no major discernible rings.

Over the past few years, quadcopters have become a majorly popular hobby. The engineering behind keeping them in the air level is fascinating, and controlling them is even more so. A friend of the company has been building one from scratch, but not everyone has that ability.

RC Logger has introduced an entry level quadcopter for only $79. This device can fly for 7-8 minutes at speeds up to 20 MPH. Running on the 915 MHz spectrum, you will probably lose sight before it stops flying.

In a world of mobile, distributed workforces, secure file distribution is essential. The cost and overhead of a virtual private network can be out of the reach of many companies, and even if it is in place, they aren't always the best way to distribute files.

Usernames and passwords can be cracked, software can be clunky and VPNs can slow everything down. That is where USB-Cloud comes in. Simply plug the USB key into your computer to enable access to the remote file store.

No requirement for username or password - just plug in the key to your Windows PC. The service also works on Mac, but requires a special download.

The refrigerator and the oven have been an unchanging landscape in the home for most of their lives. The fridge, even when it was just an ice box, looked similar to what it looks like today. Even the oven hasn't really changed - a box that contains heat to cook food.

Whirlpool wants to change all of that. Their research team is working on removing the boxes from the kitchen. From returning to a "gather around the fire" type setup to incorporating refrigerated food into the kitchen's dÃcor, Whirlpool has some bright ideas. Expect to see these things start showing up as soon as 2020.
