  • Live From Podcast Movement 2021 w/ Jason Cercone & Travis Brown

We came. We saw. We recorded a podcast.

Podcast Movement 2021 is officially in the history books and it was a great event! Originating from Nashville, Tennessee, this year's installment brought us some killer content, exceptional networking, and an opportunity to reconnect with real live humans that were, up until this point, 3D images living inside our computers and smartphones.

Myself and Travis Brown of PodDecks took advantage of the 30-minute slot I booked at Hubspot's Podcast Pavilion and laid down this dope track you're about to consume. We used this time to talk about some takeaways we got from Podcast Movement, why medium rare steak rules, and what we have in store for you on Season 2 of Pod Theory.

The next season of Pod Theory will be coming your way very shortly. If you like what you've heard up to this point, be sure to recommend this show to a friend, family member, or colleague!

  • Mindset Mastery: Podcaster's Edition w/ Travis Brown of PodDecks

What do you focus on the most when it comes to your podcast? If you said "Download numbers!" you're not unlike many, many podcasters in the world today.

For whatever reason, podcast producers get hung up on getting this big number of downloads thinking it's going to bring the answer to all problems. And that's simply not the case.

Building a podcast is an art form. It's SUPPOSED to be fun. Can it generate revenue? Absolutely. But there's a number of ways to make that happen that doesn't require a million downloads.

In order to continue making a dynamite show, focus on the good things: providing value to your audience, having kick-ass conversations with your guests, growing your network exponentially, and bringing something into the world that truly impacts people's lives. Keep your eyes on the things you can control and all the numbers will work themselves out naturally.

In Episode 125 of Pod Theory, I have the one and only Travis Brown steering the shop with me. Travis is the Founder of PodDecks, a tool that has changed the face of podcasting. PodDecks are decks of cards with various conversation prompts that podcasters can use to stimulate awesome conversation on their podcasts. Travis brings years of experience on the mic to the show and our session is one you don't want to miss.

Travis and I discuss imposter syndrome, vanity metrics, getting wrapped up in numbers and stats, why podcasters look at podcasting the wrong way, what every podcaster should be focused on, the state of podcasting and where it's headed, and a few other tips and pointers to help you get your mindset laser-focused for true podcast domination going forward!

Check out PodDecks today at poddecks.com and save 10% on any order of physical PodDecks merchandise by using the promo code 'podtheory' at checkout. Also, follow Travis on Instagram for daily podcast insights and entertainment!

  • Pod Theory Condensed - Why You Should Tell EVERYONE About Your Podcast

Building solid relationships is one of the most important things you can do in your life, both personally and professionally. This will help expand your network and get the word spreading faster about your podcast.

Why should you tell EVERYONE about your podcast? Because, believe it or not, word of mouth is still the most effective form of advertising today.

In Episode 123 of Pod Theory, I'm going to deliver a condensed version of why you shouldn't hesitate to tell everyone you connect with about your show.

  • Can a Brand Podcast Improve Internal Communications?

Whether you're just getting your company started or have been operating for a long period of time, you know that communication throughout your organization is critical.

We've seen what happens to companies that don't communicate well. Complete and utter chaos. One department doesn't know what its counterpart is doing, team members start blaming others for items that fall through the cracks, morale dips to record lows, and no one know what needs to get done...so nothing gets done. This typically leads to increased turnover or, worse...complete shutdown.

On the flip side, companies that do communicate well discover innovative ways to serve their clientele and grow their operations. Keeping everyone on the same page leads to better attitudes. And better attitudes fuel better results.

In Episode 122 of Pod Theory, I'm going to tackle the question of whether a brand podcast can help improve internal communications and serve as a catalyst to bring more cohesiveness to your team. Smash that play button to learn more!

  • The Biggest Reason You Need To Be Active In Your Communities

Regardless of what type of community environment you choose to build for your podcast or join to network with other podcasters, it's incredibly important that you be an active member of these communities. The opportunities that can be found within these communities is very powerful and could literally change the face of your brand.

Being active in said communities only raises your stock in the eyes of your audience members. Plus, it allows you to find new listeners that can find value from your show. Not from pulling out a megaphone and screaming "LISTEN TO MY PODCAST" at the top of your lungs. But from providing genuine value to people's questions, comments, and concerns that they bring to the group setting.

In Episode 121 of Pod Theory, I'm going to share the biggest reason you need to be active in your communities. I'm also sharing my thoughts on the stigma podcasters have about growing their shows too quickly. As you'll learn, it's better to keep your focus on the things you can control. Smash that play button to hear more!

  • The Stone Cold Truth About Overediting w/ Britany Felix

Overediting may be one of the most polarizing subjects in the podcasting space. There are many that firmly believe that removing um, uh, like, y'know, lip smacks, and other inaudibles makes the conversation sound less natural, while others believe it's the job of a good podcast editor to remove fillers that waste the listener's time whenever necessary.

In Episode 120 of Pod Theory, the goal is to bring you the truth about overediting and provide some clarity on what should be removed during editing...and what should be left as is because it contributes to the conversation.

To do this, I invited podcasting expert and editing extraordinaire Britany Felix to the show. Britany is the Founder of Podcasting For Coaches and, in addition to helping people produce a polished, well-edited final podcast, she also hosts her own podcast (also called Podcasting For Coaches) where she brings her years of knowledge to the mic alongside other podcasting professionals who do the same.

This was a great conversation that covered a metric ton of good ground about the editing process. We also took a hard look at podcasting as a whole and where things are headed for the medium and those leveraging it for their brands. And, for some added fun, a spirited bout of Poddeck Pandemonium broke out, too.

You can connect with Britany at podcastingforcoaches.com and follow Podcasting For Coaches wherever you download your favorite shows!
