According to Podcast Insights, we officially hit 2 MILLION podcasts as of April 2021. Not that I'm any sort of Nostradamus, but I totally called that back in January and everything. Anyway.....
With so many podcasts out there, it becomes easy to work yourself into a mental paradox of whether the medium is right for you because the competition seems so great. But today, I'm going to squash some of those beliefs before they ever have a chance to take control of your thinking.
Yes, there may be over 2 million podcasts. And at some point, there's going to be over 3 million podcasts. But you're not competing against anywhere close to that many. How many are you competing against? The answer lays inside this episode.
In Episode 117 of Pod Theory, I'm going to reveal how many podcasts you're truly competing against and the answer is probably not what you're expecting. Today's lesson will help you understand what's truly important as you build your podcast and eliminate the paradox that may stop you from proceeding.

As a podcaster, you should always be looking for ways to improve your show. The podcasting world is still the wild wild west and there are always new developments, technologies, and platforms hitting the scene that can bring more value to your production. Additionally, you should never stop looking for inspiration from other podcasters, as well as TV and radio personalities. Studying these figures and absorbing how they deliver their message will help you pick up new approaches for how to conduct yourself behind the microphone.
The really cool thing is that we are living in an age where information can be found in seconds. So, in addition to the physical activities it takes to improve ourselves, there is a wealth of knowledge at our disposal. We never have an excuse for not being educated on a subject because there are podcasts, videos, blogs, websites, white papers, and webinars dedicated to the very subject we are focusing on.
In Episode 116 of Pod Theory, I'm going to share 4 1/2 podcasts that you should check out today. Each of these shows features hosts and content dedicated to helping you get the most from your podcasting efforts. What's the 1/2 podcast? Hit the play button and you'll find out!

Finding a way to generate revenue from your podcast is one of the big motivators for podcast creators. However, it’s important to understand that podcasting is not a get rich quick scheme. Like so many digital initiatives, some people think this is possible. And when it doesn’t happen quick, these people move on to something else and try the same thing...and get the same result. It’s a vicious cycle.
All of that said, there are definitely ways to generate revenue with your podcast. There are three important points to keep in mind as you add monetization strategies to your efforts:
In Episode 114 of Pod Theory, I'm going to share some strategies for how you can monetize your podcast. In reality, you can generate revenue from your podcast before your episodes even go live. This episode will help you find some strategies that will work for you and your show.
This episode also features another installment of PodDeck Pandemonium! If you haven't checked out PodDecks yet, you need to. There is a laundry list of things that you'll want to think about when you decide to start a podcast for your brand. I've covered many of these on past episodes of Pod Theory. Show name, content theme, release frequency, how much time you can dedicate to your show's production each week, marketing strategy - just to name a few.
But above and beyond all of those items and the many more that you'll need to consider, the #1 thing you have to take into consideration when you start a podcast is...

In addition to positioning yourself as a thought leader, putting a creative outlet into the world for amplifying your brand message, and turning listeners into customers, a brand podcast is a great tool for raising overall brand awareness. Brand awareness, of course, is the extent to which consumers are familiar with the distinctive qualities or image of a particular brand and the products and services they feature.
With your brand podcast, you take center stage and the floor is yours to do with what you wish. The best podcasts are the ones that solve problems, provide value, enhance knowledge, and communicate with the audience on a level that fuels their attraction to the brand as a whole. The brand podcasts that don't gain traction are the ones that come off as a long-form sales pitch or do nothing but speak about the products and services they offer.
In Episode 112 of Pod Theory, I'm going to share some thoughts on how to raise brand awareness through your podcast. This is yet another great function that your podcast can serve...if you execute effectively!

Podcast Theory is A Bombtrack Media Production
Podcasting is great. It's a medium that's taken the world by storm and continues to prove itself as a platform capable of delivering results. I've gone all in on podcasting and, in addition to producing my own podcast that you're listening to this very moment, I also do podcast consulting, podcast production, and podcast booking and communications. These initiatives are designed to help professionals amplify their brand message and grow their audience in an effort to increase sales and awareness for their business.
The aforementioned are just a few of the positives of podcasting. But what about the negatives?
Like anything that has positives, there are some negatives as well. As much as we may want it to be, podcasting isn't just fresh flowers and cloud-free skies. And my goal with Pod Theory is to help you gain a complete understanding of the art and business of podcasting...good, bad...and ugly.
So, on that note, I bring you Episode 111 of Pod Theory and address some of the negatives of podcasting that you need to hear. The idea with this lesson is not to scare you away from podcasting, but more to give you a more complete look at what it takes to build a successful podcast.

The brands that are leading the pack in today's noisy, competitive, crowded market are the ones that understand that the power leading with value. There are many organizations that are sales-first and sales-only and haven't caught on that people just don't respond to that approach the way they used to.
Today's consumer is much more informed than years past because they have the means of finding out a ton of information about anything they want to invest in. Reviews, recommendations from friends, videos, podcasts, you name it...it's all at your fingertips.
A podcast is a great vehicle for driving value from your brand to consumers. Your listeners can learn a lot from you because you have a lot to offer. Whenever they learn something, their trust gets deeper. The more they learn, the more they trust. And when it comes time to invest in what you offer, they'll turn to you because you've already brought a ton of value to their lives through your podcast.
In Episode 109 of Pod Theory, I'm sharing five ways you can add value to your brand using a podcast as the means to deliver the message. Each strategy focuses on important aspects of your brand and will help you get the most from your podcast initiatives.
This episode also features another installment of PodDeck Pandemonium! If you haven't checked out PodDecks yet, you need to.
