  • #055 – Kris Ward, Author of Win the Hour, Win the Day!

Kris Ward is the leading authority in building your business by building your team. Kris is the founder of the Win The Hour, Win the Day philosophy. She helps entrepreneurs easily double their income and triple their time off.

After the loss of her husband, Kris returned full-time to her work as a marketing strategist. She was thrilled to see that her business had not only survived her absence but was thriving.

Now, Kris has completely changed the landscape for entrepreneurs by sharing the successful practices that allowed her absence.

    Tips:

    • Your business should support your life. Not the other way around.
    • I want to create a movement: business and life shouldn’t be hard. I couldn’t reach the number of people I needed to reach just by doing group coaching.
    • A book gives people a reason to talk to you.
    • I wrote the book twice. The first time I wrote in marketing speak. It clobbered people over the head.
    • You have to write consistently. If you don’t want to write five pages today because you are tired, you won’t be able to write 10 pages tomorrow to make up.
    • It’s not easy to write an easy read.
    • I use my book for exposure to get onto podcasts and webinars – anyone who has a microphone. A book opens doors.
    • When it comes to publishing a book, don’t take short cuts. All the little things impress an audience. You don’t want want your book to look like it was self published or is a glorified PDF file.

    • #054 – Per Sjorfors, The Price Whisperer™

Per Sjorfors is the Founder of Atenga Insights. Pricing has always been an interest area for Per.

He appears regularly on business radio shows and gets quoted regularly in the financial press, including Forbes, Fortune Magazine, Inc., Industry Week, Business Insider, and the Financial Times.

Prior to Atenga, Per had more than 25 years of executive management experience where he gained an appreciation for the importance of optimal pricing.

He used pricing as the leaver to turn around several European and US companies, and while setting up a number of Joint Venture companies in Asia he gained additional insight into pricing practices from a global perceptive.

      Tips:

      • When you write a book you become the thought leader and people want to do business with you.
      • You can’t just jump into your topic from the deep end. You have to take the reader through a journey from the basics to being well educated.
      • Case studies need to be emotional.
      • Case studies follow a simple format: Show the problem. Show the solution. Show the results.
      • My first draft was a jumble of things I said this is not going to work. How do I ease my readers into the topic so they aren’t overwhelmed.
      • Tell stories. People are hardwired to learn from stories.
      • To get more business from the book, I plan to give the book away, and promote the book on social media, my website and speaking. When you have a book, there are ample opportunities to promote the book when you speak.

      • #053 – Anne Janzer, Author of Writing to Be Understood: What Works and Why

Anne Janzer is an award-winning author, nonfiction writing coach and marketing practitioner on a mission to help people make a positive impact with their writing.

She supports and encourages writers, authors and marketers through her books, blog posts, online courses, webinars, and teaching.

        Tips:

        • Leave time for revisions. Revising is where the magic happens and the brilliance comes out to shine.
        • When revising, ask yourself, “Do I have the data? Is the material abstract? Do I need more details. Is this in the right order?”
        • You write from your perspective. You revise from your reader’s perspective.
        • Read for flow. Do you have too many long, complex sentences? Readers don’t think the way you think.
        • You outgrow your outline. You discover new things.
        • The book is not about you. You have to serve the reader. What do they need to know? When you do this, they will see you are the trusted advisor they need to hire.
        • I have to write a lot to find the perfect structure. I have to become immersed in the process.

        • #052 – Shawn Casemore, Author of The Unstoppable Organization

Shawn Casemore is an entrepreneur, an owner of multiple businesses, and known internationally for growing small businesses.

As Founder of the Unstoppable Entrepreneur Network, he has coached hundreds, if not thousands, of small business owners and entrepreneurs, helping them to design and structure their business for rapid growth, while reducing the headaches that often come with managing people and dealing with customers.

He has worked with small business owners with only one or two employees, all the way up to multinational organizations with thousands of employees.

          Tips:

          • The title of the book is one of the most important parts of the book.
          • I need to start marketing the book way in advance of publishing the book. I do this by releasing parts of the book in blogs and articles.
          • Interviews with experts and business people give your book more credibility and a variety of viewpoints.
          • The more specific the topic you choose for your book, the better.
          • In the last decade, self-publishing has become mainstream. It certainly is a faster way to publish a book.
          • A book is a key tool to differentiate yourself. You flesh the book out with examples that prove your credibility.
          • It is one thing to write a book. It is another thing to sell a book. If you don’t market the book, no one will know about it.

            Tips:

            • How to choose your topic: What can I go deep on for a long period of time and be considered an expert in? Initially, I focused on the early adopters. I didn’t have the budget to educate the entire world.
            • Writing a book can open doors that might lead to work or a relationship. My books help me build my network of colleagues and vendors.
            • The evangelical book comes first. Then comes the playbook.
            • The process of writing a book made me smarter and allowed me to pin down my ideas.
            • Don’t be afraid to reach out to the top people to interview for your book. They could be really interested in the topic and may want to help you.
            • Go back and forth between framework and case studies.

              • Meeting planners asked me, “What makes you an expert?” I told them I wrote the book. The book takes you up a notch.

              • Reporters want to quote best-selling authors. They aren’t looking to interview speakers.
              • Create a separate website for your book. The more individual sites you have, the better Google ranks you. Link sites to each other.
              • The price of the book or course is minimal compared to the profit your client will receive if they sign one new piece of business. The ROI is tremendous.

His book Growth or Bust! has been a #1 best seller in the business section of one region of Barnes & Noble.

                  Tips:

                  • The book is the key that opens the door to the executive suite.
                  • White papers are good, but nothing beats a book. I knew immediately I’d have more credibility with a book.
                  • Clients will tell you how your book stands out from all others.
                  • Anyone can talk about their topic of expertise for 2-5 minutes, which is enough material to fill a subtopic in your book.
                  • At every speech, I try to get the book covered in the speaking fee.
                  • The more people who have the book, the more synergy it creates. I signed a big client after one of their people got my book at a speech and passed it around.
                  • You can give people step-by-step directions, but people still need your help to adapt your methods to their situation.

He started his selling career in 1987 and since then he has been sharing the skills and techniques he learned.

                    Tips:

                    • Writing my thoughts into a book reminds me of my ideas and shows me how much I’ve grown.
                    • Don’t write down what I said. Write down what you thought of based on what I said.
                    • Write a book you want to read.
                    • What’s in the mind of the reader I want to attract? Write a book based on that.
                    • I wasted a lot of time rewriting and editing my book. The best thing I did was hire an editor.
                    • The prospect who reads my book will get a snapshot of how I think and how I operate. If they like they book, they’ll like me. If not, we won’t waste each other’s time.
                    • I work on being empathetic with the reader. You have to know what it is like to be the reader.

                      • Send people to your website to buy your book. Attract them with bonuses.
                      • You want books to be a vehicle to take you to other places (i.e. keynotes, join ventures) Open yourself to whatever will come.
                      • Not being married to a single outcome leaves you open to other opportunities.
                      • I am not about book sales. I am about creating awareness. Send the book to influencers and friends.
                      • What I did the least amount of effort led to my greatest successes.
                      • Video is a powerful marketing tool. I use it for all my books.
