We’re celebrating our 200th episode with something a little different.

My guest, Anthony Metivier, creator of the Magnetic Memory Method and author of a range of books about memory and language learning, shares his tips on how to remember more of your dreams by building a dream memory palace.

Intrigued?

Tired of having his sleep disrupted by waking up several times each night to write out his dreams, he developed his magnetic memory work to create a system for remembering his dreams that allowed him to stay in bed, wake only briefly for a minute or so, and then drift back to sleep. In the morning, his dreams were all there for him.

As you’ll hear, Anthony underwent many years of psychotherapy involving dream work, and this led to the continuing exploration of his dreams today.

Anthony shares the rollercoaster dream he had the night before we recorded the interview, so listen in as we also briefly but efficiently interpret the dream and relate it to Anthony’s life.

My guest, Anna from Norway, asks about her dream of receiving a gift of a small-scale house made entirely of gingerbread, so freshly baked that the glazing was still wet.

It wasn’t really something Anna wanted, as she had little room in her home for it, but the gift was a special assignment made for her by a baker’s apprentice. Anna had met the old baker himself earlier in the dream, when he showed her around his full-scale gingerbread cathedral.

The food theme continues, as Anna’s dream begins and ends with building blocks made from hard-boiled egg yolks.

My guest, LRH from Sydney, dreamed of meeting a business investor who invited her to take some free corporate gifts, some pencils and erasers.

They stood looking at a range of swimming pools, each with a different temperature or feeling, when suddenly, to her complete shock, the investor pushed her in the deep end of one of them. He then offered her an outstanding deal over a prestige property, and she was keen but somehow her thoughts kept going back to the pencils and erasers. What does it all mean?

Alexandra, from England, is my guest with a dream that begins with dressing up in a white spandex suit to go to a vintage disco, and ends with walking an ancient causeway called Pilgrims Way. What was she wearing on Pilgrims Way? Why, red knickers and red bra, of course, as you do.

This beautiful, haunting, quite ethereal dream, digs deep beneath the surface layers, though the spandex and red underwear are clues that take Alexandra to meaningful places.

During the dream there’s a crocodile and a burnt out derelict petrol station to pass before the scene magically opens to the ancient causeway where she finds white stones and bones shaped like little people and animals.

Alexandra’s dream occurred the night before an important meeting. How can the insight she gains from her dream interpretation help her to negotiate the meeting, and what else does it reflect about her life, how she’s handling its challenges, and how she might approach her next steps?

Constance is my guest this episode with a dream about a phosphorescent green viper breaking out from the earth in her garden. The next morning, she awoke with the first signs of atopic dermatitis, a skin ailment that stayed with her for the next two and a half years.

Constance had read that snakes in dreams may be related to health, and she was interested to know if there was a connection between her dream and the severe dermatitis she suffered from that point forward.

Kyle from New Jersey is my guest this episode, with a dream that begins with crashing a school bus while overtaking slower cars, and ends with a mesmerising encounter with a smiling fish at a fish hatchery.

No-one turns up to help Kyle when the bus he’s driving crashes into a telephone pole, so he decides to trace his steps back to discover what caused the crash, which is when he happens upon the hatchery and the magical fish.

As you’ll learn when you tune into our conversation, Kyle is a transpersonal psychologist with a special interest in a controversial subject. Although the idea behind The Dream Show is to give our guests anonymity so that they can talk openly and deeply, some choose to share their work if it comes up when we explore the dream, as did Kyle. Amanda is my guest this episode with a dream about trimming her father’s eyebrows, then weeding the back of his head.

Yes, you read that correctly. There was a large weed growing out of the back of his head.

The dream dilemma was over how much she should trim those two seven inch hair wires poking out from his eyebrows, and what exactly her father’s enigmatic dream advice meant.

Amanda said she usually has epic dreams, and this one interested her because it was short and seemed important, though she had no idea what it meant. She was excited to come onto the show and explore her dream.

As you’ll hear when you listen to us delving into her dream, it delivers up its treasures and Amanda relates it to her waking life, what she’s doing, what’s recently changed, and where she will go from here given the clarity received during the dream work.

Guests come onto the show with assured confidentiality, and some choose, during or after the recording, to share their details publicly. Rachel is my guest this episode, with a dream that gently uses symbolism and a safe space to begin to heal traumatic abuse from her childhood.

Rachel is the last of our ‘email guests’, so you’ll hear our email conversation about the dream, its interpretation, the dream alchemy, and Rachel’s responses. Through our conversation, Rachel has been able to speak about her trauma and share it publicly with you, a major part of her healing. While dark is brought into light, and Rachel’s healing is opening new confidence and flow in her life, you may wish to know that the podcast contains sensitive material.

Also in this episode is a Dream Snap, a short segment in which I give an overview interpretation of a dream sent in by a listener. This does not involve communication with the dreamer beyond any information they send in with their dream.

This episode the Dream Snap is from Shauna, who dreamed of a gym mat that nobody wanted.

Before Rachel, and before Shauna, I introduce the show with a piece about the dark and the light in dreams, and use one of my own dreams as an example.
