We have two guests this episode, Shauna by phone, and Vic by email, and both guests are transitioning, in different ways, as is The Dream Show.

Shauna* is transitioning careers, and is about to fully launch her new business within the month. She brings a dream that begins with a live and kicking three-month-old baby, and ends with a doctor and nurse cradling a dead baby. In the dream, Shauna felt she belonged in their world where she could feel their pain and offer meaningful help, but she was uncomfortable about the dream ending in this way.

Vic is transitioning from female to male, and brings a dream about cutting short a journey up a rocky hill because “I am missing my parents”. A black storm cloud approaches and the dream ends with the parents gone from Vic’s life.

You’ll hear Shauna and I exploring her dream, relating it to her life, and discovering insights that help her to transition into her new career in the best possible way.

You’ll hear my interpretation of Vic’s dream, highlighting the perspective shift that will free Vic to move through conflict and embrace full transition.

We’re introducing a ‘dream snap’ segment into The Dream Show. This is a short segment at the end of the show where I read out a dream sent in by a listener and give a short overview of its meaning, or tips on how to approach understanding it. Vic’s dream, and the email dream we will include in the next episode, are a little longer than a dream snap, so in this episode and the next, we are transitioning. (You are invited to send in your dream for the dream snap here.) Enjoy listening.

Carmen is my guest this episode, as we explore and interpret her dream of being back at university as a student, which is all well and good until she remembers that she’s already completed her study, and she now works here in waking life.

Have you had a variation of this dream, finding yourself back at school, college, or university, only to remember that you’ve already been there, done that, got the qualifications, and moved on?

There’s a highlight, in Carmen’s dream, when she meets a sensational new lecturer, all powerful intelligence and African braids down past her shoulders.

Along the way, Carmen discovers that Scientologists run the university office, and workers have an option, twice a week, to roll on out of their beds and into work still wearing their pyjamas.

So what does it all mean, how does it relate to Carmen’s life, and how does this new insight help Carmen to resolve her current challenges? Listen to find out!

As always when we have a guest on The Dream Show, you’ll enjoy getting to know Carmen through her dream, you’ll resonate with some of her experiences and challenges, and you’ll absorb tips on interpreting dreams along the way. Enjoy.

We begin with our new theme music*, a change after almost eight years and 187 episodes with our original theme, and we end with announcing a new format that we’ll be introducing into the show, asking for your thoughts and inviting your participation.

In between, we question reality, exploring what we can learn about reality from lucid dreaming, as well as from our everyday magical, mystical waking life experiences, and from those dreams that seem so chillingly real that we may be mistakenly persuaded to take them literally and let them colour our lives and affect our decisions.

Along the way I give you solid, practical tips for interpreting your dreams so that you can relate them to your life in insightful, meaningful ways, and discover fresh perspective on your everyday reality.

* New theme music composed by Euan Gray.

When you’ve lost the spark, or you’re feeling overwhelmed by the dark or difficult, the gift of life is often in the reframe. See a situation through new eyes, or experience it differently through a shift of heart.

In dreams, a courageous and healing approach is to look at everything and everyone in a dream as representing something about the dreamer. This means facing the dark and difficult, the confronting and challenging, digging deep, and discovering the light – and life – hiding behind the shadows.

Dream alchemy is a kind of reframe. It’s the process of acknowledging then transforming the shadows and receiving the gift of life they bestow.

In this episode we explore reframing, in life and through dream alchemy in dreams, along with practical tips on how to apply dream alchemy to step into a more meaningful sense of light and life.

Pat, from the Chicago area of Illinois, is my guest asking about a dream where she shot her daughter-in-law. “Why would I shoot such a kind person?” she asked herself both in the dream and on waking.

It’s a short dream, but we get so much out of it, as you’ll hear. We explore the dream location of the shooting, the way they were sitting just before Pat pulled the gun, and how she felt in the dream. We look for clues and we find plenty that lead us to uncovering the treasures this dream holds.

I mention, during the show, that I’m frequently contacted by worried young teens who dream of shooting a parent, so we take an aside to discuss this too.

Pat, a group psychotherapist, encourages her clients to bring their dreams into the group sessions, and she enjoyed the opportunity to focus on herself and one of her own dreams by bringing it to The Dream Show.

Pat also brings questions about her dreaming life, some patterns she has noticed, wondering how they relate.

Listen as we put it all together, connect this dream of four years ago that has stayed so strongly with Pat to a situation in her early childhood and an issue that is ongoing in her life today, and apply dream alchemy to find resolution.

Patti, a depth psychologist, regularly explores her dreams by herself, and has been a guest on The Dream Show before. She enjoys the process of working through a dream in this way, looking into different corners, answering different questions that lead to enlightening perspectives, while contributing to this learning resource for the benefit of others.

In her dream, Patti is in the front seat of her stationary car with a heavy baby on her shoulders. She’s half asleep, enjoying listening to the radio, but the baby keeps hitting the buttons and changing the stations to ones Patti doesn’t like. The baby’s mother pokes her head through the window to take pictures, and Patti wonders if the mother realises that the baby might not be safe with her, after all, she has been drinking white wine as well as falling asleep.

There’s more to the dream. Listen as we analyse the dream and find deep helpful insight into the specifics of Patti’s situation, and a dream alchemy practice to take it all home.

Tim contacted me to volunteer to be a guest on the show when an issue arose over her career, and she felt that exploring the dream would reveal her unconscious beliefs and patterns, helping her to understand the situation and make the best decisions going forward.

She’s right. That’s one of the most powerful aspects of dream analysis and the process of exploring and working with dreams.

When we have a phone guest, I have no idea what dream the guest will present.

That way, as you listen to the podcast, you experience hearing the whole process, from me hearing the dream for the first time, to asking questions, analysing, exploring, and you hear the guest’s responses every step of the way.

I believe this approach helps you to absorb the process so that you can apply it to your dreams, or help other people with theirs.

We get to the bottom of Tim’s dream, as you’ll hear, and now Tim has clarity on how best to approach her situation, as well as a dream alchemy practice to support the inner change to smooth the way.

Melinda from Kansas is my guest with a frightening dream about an alien invasion. It seems she’s the only person who doesn’t trust the aliens, while everyone else believes they are friendly and here to help.

When one of the aliens attacks her with an innocuous looking coat rack that turns into a weapon emitting invisible rays, her energy is quickly drained.

There’s a shift to what starts out as a happier scene, where Melinda is about to give birth, in a futuristic, hi-tech way.

A beautiful baby girl is extracted from her flat tummy, but sadly turns into a cupcake, which Melinda promptly eats.

Listen as I interpret the dream, share analysis and interpretation techniques with you, and show how the dream is related to Melinda’s waking life and how understanding her dream can help her.

You’ll hear Melinda’s response to the interpretation, and the insights she gains from having her dream analysed.

Emily from San Francisco is my guest with a dream about cooking beef stroganoff from leftover beef. Exactly how much meat do you need to make this dish, and will there be enough to feed everyone?

Emily sets off on a mission to buy more meat. Along the way, she finds herself with three women, each with a petal in place of their head. Doesn’t this dream begin to sound like a fairy tale? What began as a serious, practical journey becomes quite magical at this point. It’s also at this point that Emily’s dream becomes more emotional.

The final part of Emily’s dream finds her back on the road again, running hard, but I’ll leave you to enjoy listening to discover what happens next, and why.

Everyone and everything in a dream represents something about the dreamer, so what do the three petal women represent about Emily, and how much of this is unconscious?

One of the most potent offerings of dreams is insight into our unconscious, and the reward of deeper understanding of the self and why we experience life in the way that we do. Listen in to discover what Emily learns from the petal women, once we analyse her dream.

As always with guests, you’ll hear Emily’s feedback on my interpretation and her deeper exploration of how it relates to her life and how this process changes her perspective.

I’ve also included a dream alchemy practice for Emily to do, one that really made her smile, as you’ll hear. Enjoy.
