  • Episode 104: Green Arrow by Benjamin Percy
Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
If you’ve been a long time listener of Back Issue Bloodbath, you may have picked up on the fact that we love Green Arrow. Both Andrew and Sammy are big fans. The Green Arrow series launched last year has brought new life to this great character. (Thank you Rebirth!) Written by Benjamin Percy with artwork from Otto Schmidt, Juan Ferreyra and Eleanora Carlini, the series has combined elements from the pre and post New 52 worlds seamlessly. The book marks a return to GA’s social justice warrior stance which has been missing for many years. Black Canary’s also back in the mix, adding to an interesting supporting cast to back up our chili-loving hero. (Yes! He loves chili again!) There’s also some great new villains mixed in with old favourites (like Clock King and Merlin to name a couple).
This is the book that longtime Ollie Queen fans have been waiting for. Join us as we cover the copious amounts of awesome that is the current Green Arrow run. This series is right on target and we plan to talk about it in our usual fashion on an ALL NEW Back Issue Bloodbath. Take a listen and enjoy your life.
Looking for more info on this comic? If you want to hear Sammy’s interview with Green Arrow writer Benjamin Percy on My Summer Lair, head over to girthradio.com.
Have an idea for a certain topic we should cover? Have an indie comic book you’d like us to review? Send us an email at [email protected] with “Back Issue Bloodbath” in the subject line. We’d love to hear from you. And be sure to join our Facebook page for exclusive content.

Originally Aired: 10/20/17 – We review The Snowman. Talk with actor Robert Nolan all with special guest host Matthew McConaughey
We talk about the news of the week with special guest host Matthew McConaughey (well that’s what he keeps telling us at least). According to Matthew, the Academy is going to have a new category for VR films starting next year. Marvel is considering doing a Marvel only convention for the comics, movies and Television series. Matthew has breaking news that DC will be starting production on a Louis the Lilac film starring Matthew. Alterna Comics had a comic rejected from Free Comicbook Day which has Alterna asking for reform of the selection process.
Our review of The Snowman starring Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Synopsis: For Detective Harry Hole, the death of a young woman during the first snowfall of winter feels like anything but a routine homicide. His investigation leads him to “The Snowman Killer,” an elusive sociopath who continuously taunts Hole with cat-and-mouse games. As the vicious murders continue, Harry teams up with a brilliant recruit to try and lure the madman out of the shadows before he can strike again.
We also talk with Robert Nolan, the star of Sixty Minutes to Midnight, the new indie action film that played Toronto After Dark just last week. He’ll be on to talk about what went into making the film and share some “behind the scenes” stories. Sixty Minutes to Midnight focuses on a construction worker and former soldier Jack Darcy, a man of few friends who decides to spend New Year’s Eve 1999 by himself at his secluded home in Dallas. Little does he know that he’s been chosen to be the next contestant on a deadly game show that hunts and kills its players. Jack has 1 hour to stay alive. If he does, he receives One Million Dollars. But Jack is a skilled individual with more than a few tricks up his sleeve. For more info on Sixty Minutes to Midnight, check out our review of the film.

  • Episode 19: Garden State
Welcome everyone to another episode of Don’t Make Me Watch That! – A podcast that celebrates movies and tears them down all in one sitting. Hosted by Andrew Young and Leslie Hudson, each episode presents the critique of a film from the long or recent past that one of us hates and the other one loves. Andrew and Leslie will do what they do best: fight and debate and make fun of one another. It’s all in good fun and for the love of FILM!
On Don’t Make Me Watch That, the main goal is usually comedy. We want to make you laugh at our ridiculous arguments with each other.  That’s not the case this time round as we talk about Garden State from 2004. Written, directed by, and starring Zach Braff, Garden State is the story of a quietly troubled young man who returns home for his mother’s funeral after being estranged from his family for a decade. The movie is about awakenings, epiphany and the importance of feeling life. Andrew does not feel this message is properly conveyed. Leslie sees it as a perfect film.
Unlike most times, there are strong feelings for this movie on both sides of the table. There is serious debate and no real room for jokes (we do get a few in at the beginning and the end, though).
Listen as our two combatants argue the merits of Garden State. Enjoy.
If you like what you hear, we’d love to hear from you!
Send us an email at [email protected] and put “Don’t Make Me Watch That!” in the subject line. Let us know if you agree with Andrew or Leslie regarding this film or make suggestions on films you’d like to hear us talk about. We may even read your email in a future episode (but only if you want us to). And be sure to like the Don’t Make Me Watch That! Facebook Page for exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else.

  • Episode 103: An Interview with Conor McCreery
Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
Back Issue Bloodbath is lucky to call Toronto home. A number of comic creators live in the greater Toronto area and many more pass through this city on the regular due to multiple conventions and events throughout the year. This gives us great access to creators. One of those creators is Conor McCreery. Best known for his work on the Kill Shakespeare comic that he created with Anthony Del Col, Conor has gone on to write many a tale in the KS world, including a Juliet miniseries released earlier this year. He’s also had the pleasure of writing for comic series like Adventure Time and Regular Show. He’s a funny guy and a skilled hand when it comes to a compelling story.
Andrew caught up with Conor at Fan Expo Canada this past September. Conor’s become a good friend of the Geek Hard family and always has time to talk comics with a fellow geek. Listen as they talk about Juliet and the Regular Show/Adventure Time crossover comic. And stick around to hear Andrew and Sammy talk about a new restaurant idea that Conor pitched to Andrew. It’s all fun and games on another great episode of Back Issue Bloodbath. Come for the comics. Stay for the food.
Have an idea for a certain topic we should cover? Have an indie comic book you’d like us to review? Send us an email at [email protected] with “Back Issue Bloodbath” in the subject line. We’d love to hear from you. And be sure to join our Facebook page for exclusive content.
