  • Happily Hacked/Slashed to Death
Originally Aired: 10/13/17 – We review Happy Death Day. Talk with comic writer Tini Howard all with special guest host J. Torres
We talk about the news of the week with special guest host J. Torres. Taking a look at the newly dropped New Mutants trailer. The news that Jimmy Palmiotti & Amanda Conner have announced their departure from Harley Quinn next month.
Our review of Happy Death Day starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard and Ruby Modine. Synopsis: Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter’s dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.
We also talk with comic writer Tini Howard. Tini talks about the upcoming release of both Hack/Slash: Resurrection (late October) and Assassinistas (December), as well as her past comics work on titles ranging from Power Rangers to Rick and Morty and more. As a winner of the Top Cow Talent Hunt, Tini Howard’s first comics credit was 2014’s Magdalena: Seventh Sacrament. Since then, she’s continued her work with Top Cow and has worked on projects like Poseidon IX (Image/Top Cow), The Secret Loves of Geek Girls (Bedside Press), and Oath Anthology. She lives at the beach. For more on Tini Howard, check out her website.

  • Episode 102: Moon Knight by Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey
Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
If there is one character that Sammy Younan has been dying to do an episode on, it’s Moon Knight. This week we satisfy that desire by bringing you our look back on the 2014, 6 issue run of Moon Knight written by Warren Ellis with artwork from Declan Shalvey. This series debuted shortly after the Brian Michael Bendis/Alex Maleev comic wrapped up and it did a great job of doing something different with the character. There are those that feel that Moon Knight is just a poor man’s Batman. Instead of hiding from this, Ellis leans into the fact by creating the “Mr. Knight” persona, a new personality in Moon Knight’s mind. Mr. Knight is a great detective who secretly works with the New York police department to solve unusual cases. It’s the stand out addition to Moon Knight’s character from this short run from Ellis and Shalvey.
Listen as Andrew and Sammy go over the finer points of this series as well as talk about Marvel’s problematic marketing practices. Fans are tired of constant relaunches and new number ones. Moon Knight’s popularity might be affected by this style of publishing. Another reason for this could just be the character has a niche fan base. Take a listen to the latest Back Issue Bloodbath.
Have an idea for a certain topic we should cover? Have an indie comic book you’d like us to review? Send us an email at [email protected] with “Back Issue Bloodbath” in the subject line. We’d love to hear from you. And be sure to join our Facebook page for exclusive content.

We talk with documentary filmmaker and comic fan Anthony Desiato. He joins us to talk about My Comic Shop Country, a new film that he’s currently raising money on Kickstarter to make. Anthony started in film by making a documentary about his local comic shop. When that comic shop closed down, this prompted him to start up the podcast, My Comic Shop History. He now plans to showcase these shops and present their stories in his latest doc. To find out more about the full crowdfunding campaign, check out the Kickstarter Page.

  • Episode 18: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Welcome everyone to another episode of Don’t Make Me Watch That! – A podcast that celebrates movies and tears them down all in one sitting. Hosted by Andrew Young and Leslie Hudson, each episode presents the critique of a film from the long or recent past that one of us hates and the other one loves. Andrew and Leslie will do what they do best: fight and debate and make fun of one another. It’s all in good fun and for the love of FILM!
We always wonder if this will be the episode where one of your humble hosts crack. This may be the one where Leslie reaches her breaking point. This is the power of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Written and directed by Wes Anderson and starring Bill Murray, The Life Aquatic is the story of oceanographer Steve Zissou, who rallies a crew that includes his estranged wife, a journalist, and a man who may or may not be his son, to exact revenge on a mythical shark that killed his partner. The film angered Leslie to no end. This amused Andrew greatly, to say the least.
Listen as our two combatants argue the merits of The Life Aquatic and cut each other up in the process. Enjoy.
If you like what you hear, we’d love to hear from you!
Send us an email at [email protected] and put “Don’t Make Me Watch That!” in the subject line. Let us know if you agree with Andrew or Leslie regarding this film or make suggestions on films you’d like to hear us talk about. We may even read your email in a future episode (but only if you want us to). And be sure to like the Don’t Make Me Watch That! Facebook Page for exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else.

  • Episode 101: Superhero Costume Changes
Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
Do the clothes make the hero? And if that’s the case, does a change of threads make a character better or worse? The costume change is a staple of a superhero’s journey in the world of DC and Marvel. No character has ever been left alone. There have always been tweaks and additions to every character’s uniform throughout the years. Some have even had complete overhauls of name and appearance. The Superhero Costume Change has become both a moment and excitement and dread for fanboys and fangirls over the years.
Join us this week as we take a look at the superhero costume change. Which ones are our favourites? Which ones do we wish never happened? What’s the reason behind some of these redesigns? All of these questions are touched upon. We even get into the age old debate on which Wolverine look is better: Blue and Gold or Tan and Brown? There’s also an attempt to figure out if The Wasp has a definitive costume. Who’s to say, really? She changes her costume almost every issue. It’s a fun time looking at what heroes wear and if we the fans care on an ALL NEW Back Issue Bloodbath.
Have an idea for a certain topic we should cover? Have an indie comic book you’d like us to review? Send us an email at [email protected] with “Back Issue Bloodbath” in the subject line. We’d love to hear from you. And be sure to join our Facebook page for exclusive content.
