B: नमस्कार दोस्तों। मेरा नाम खुशी है। मुझे इस साल की थीम बहुत पसंद आई, खासकर भारत में रहने वाले हम लोगों के लिए। हम अक्सर शहरी और ग्रामीण भारत या अलग-अलग राज्यों के बीच अंतर की बात करते हैं। लेकिन यह थीम हमें याद दिलाती है कि चाहे कोई युवा मुंबई जैसे हलचल भरे महानगर से हो या झारखंड के किसी दूरदराज के गाँव से, हम सभी बुनियादी ज़रूरतें एक जैसी ही चाहते हैं।

A: बिल्कुल। आइए इस विषय को विस्तार से समझते हैं: "विभिन्न संदर्भ, समान आकांक्षाएं।" आज के भारतीय युवाओं के लिए इसका वास्तव में क्या अर्थ है?

B: दरअसल, "विभिन्न संदर्भ" का अर्थ है हमारे रहने के स्थान और सामाजिक-आर्थिक पृष्ठभूमि के आधार पर हमारी वास्तविकता में अंतर आना। उदाहरण के लिए, दिल्ली का एक किशोर डिजिटल गोपनीयता, साइबरबुलिंग या किसी शीर्ष इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज में प्रवेश जैसी समस्याओं से चिंतित हो सकता है। वहीं, सूखे से प्रभावित किसी गांव का किशोर अपने परिवार की मदद के लिए स्कूल छोड़ने या जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रभावों से निपटने जैसी चिंताओं से ग्रस्त हो सकता है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के अनुसार, हमारे जैसे विकासशील देशों के युवाओं को गरीबी, जलवायु परिवर्तन और प्रौद्योगिकी तक असमान पहुंच जैसी गंभीर चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ता है।

A: लाखों युवा भारतीयों के लिए यह एक बहुत ही वास्तविक "अलग संदर्भ" है। लेकिन "सामान्य आकांक्षाओं"वाले भाग का क्या?

B: यही तो सबसे खूबसूरत बात है। उन भारी मतभेदों के बावजूद, संयुक्त राष्ट्र का कहना है कि दुनिया भर के युवा एक जैसी ही चीजें चाहते हैं। हम सभी अच्छी सेहत, मानसिक स्वास्थ्य, गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा, सार्थक रोजगार और सुरक्षित समुदाय चाहते हैं। हम लैंगिक समानता चाहते है,

सम्मान और एक स्थायी भविष्य भी i। परीक्षा की तैयारी कर रहा एक भारतीय छात्र, किसी भी अन्य देश के युवा की तरह, एक अच्छी नौकरी चाहता है।

A: यह बात बिल्कुल सही है। और मुझे लगता है कि यहीं पर जन स्वास्थ्य की भूमिका आती है। जन स्वास्थ्य के दृष्टिकोण से, हम वास्तव में युवा भारतीयों को इन आम आकांक्षाओं को पूरा करने में कैसे मदद कर सकते हैं?

B: बहुत अच्छा सवाल। इसकी शुरुआत एक मजबूत स्वास्थ्य व्यवस्था से होती है। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन यानी WHO का कहना है कि किशोरों को ऐसी स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं की जरूरत है, जो उनकी जरूरतों के अनुसार हों और आसानी से उपलब्ध हों। भारत में, आयुष्मान भारत जैसी पहल और आशा कार्यकर्ताओं का नेटवर्क इस दिशा में काम कर रहे हैं। इसका मतलब है कि स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं ऐसी हों, जो आसानी से मिल सकें, जहां किसी के साथ भेदभाव न हो और जिन्हें इस्तेमाल करना आसान हो। अगर किसी युवा को शारीरिक या मानसिक स्वास्थ्य या यौन और प्रजनन स्वास्थ्य से जुड़ी मदद चाहिए, तो स्वास्थ्य व्यवस्था को बिना किसी भेदभाव के उनकी मदद करनी चाहिए।

A: मानसिक स्वास्थ्य इस समय एक बहुत बड़ा मुद्दा है, खासकर भारतीय छात्रों पर पड़ने वाले अत्यधिक शैक्षणिक दबाव को देखते हुए। आधिकारिक आंकड़े इस बारे में क्या कहते हैं, खुशी ?

B: आंकड़े बेहद चौंकाने वाले हैं। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (WHO) की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, वैश्विक स्तर पर हर सात किशोरों में से एक मानसिक विकार से ग्रस्त है। यह उस आयु वर्ग के लिए वैश्विक बीमारी के बोझ का 15% है। चिंता और निराशा जैसी स्थितियां बीमारी के प्रमुख कारण हैं। सबसे चिंताजनक बात यह है कि वयस्कता में सामने आने वाली मानसिक स्वास्थ्य समस्याओं में से आधी वास्तव में 18 वर्ष की आयु तक शुरू हो जाती हैं, और उनमें से अधिकांश का इलाज नहीं हो पाता है। भारत में, स्कूलों और कॉलेजों में मानसिक स्वास्थ्य जागरूकता के लिए बड़े पैमाने पर अभियान शुरू हो रहे हैं, जो एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।

A: इसीलिए सहायक वातावरण बनाना अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। स्कूल, परिवार और समुदाय सुरक्षित स्थान होने चाहिए। यह केवल चिकित्सा उपचार तक सीमित नहीं है; यह तनाव कम करके, स्वस्थ जीवनशैली को बढ़ावा देकर और सामाजिक बहिष्कार से लड़कर इन समस्याओं को रोकने के बारे में भी है।

B: बिल्कुल सही। और सामाजिक बहिष्कार की बात करें तो हमें स्वास्थ्य समानता पर भी चर्चा करनी होगी। इसका मतलब है यह सुनिश्चित करना कि हर किसी को यथासंभव स्वस्थ रहने का उचित और न्यायसंगत अवसर मिले। फिलहाल, इसमें बहुत बड़ा अंतर है। यूनिसेफ का कहना है कि दुनिया के 90% किशोर निम्न और मध्यम आय वर्ग में रहते हैं। मध्य-आय वाले देशों में, वे सबसे अधिक असुरक्षित हैं। भारत में, इसका अर्थ है यह सुनिश्चित करना कि आदिवासी क्षेत्र की एक लड़की को महानगर में रहने वाले एक लड़के के समान पोषण और स्वास्थ्य सेवा तक पहुंच प्राप्त हो।

A: तो, परिस्थितियाँ अलग हैं, संसाधन अलग हैं, लेकिन समानता की आवश्यकता एक जैसी है। क्या हम इसे वास्तविक भारतीय परिदृश्य में लागू कर सकते हैं?

B: बिल्कुल! कल्पना कीजिए अनन्या नाम की एक युवती की, जो राजस्थान के एक गाँव में रहती है। उसकी परिस्थिति यह है कि वह अस्पताल से बहुत दूर रहती है, प्रजनन स्वास्थ्य को लेकर समाज में बहुत कलंक है, और उसका परिवार आर्थिक तंगी से जूझ रहा है। उसकी आकांक्षा स्वस्थ रहना, उच्च माध्यमिक शिक्षा पूरी करना और शायद नर्स बनना है।

A: ठीक है। तो सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य दृष्टिकोण अनन्या की मदद कैसे करता है?

B: एक मजबूत प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य सेवा प्रणाली अनन्या को उसकी पहुंच में सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराएगी। इसका अर्थ यह हो सकता है कि स्थानीय उप-केंद्र या प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य केंद्र (पीएचसी) युवाओं के अनुकूल परामर्श प्रदान करे, या कोई आशा कार्यकर्ता उसके परिवार से अनन्या की पढ़ाई जारी रखने के बारे में बात करे। इसका अर्थ शिक्षा भी है—उसे और उसके समुदाय को स्वास्थ्य और अधिकारों के बारे में शिक्षित करना ताकि उसे समाज में कलंकित न किया जाए। जब ​​हम इन बाधाओं को दूर करते हैं, तो हम अनन्या को उसकी आकांक्षाओं को पूरा करने में मदद करते हैं।

A: यह एक सटीक उदाहरण है। एक अन्य परिदृश्य केरल के तटीय गाँव में रहने वाले एक युवा का हो सकता है, जो जलवायु परिवर्तन के कारण अचानक होने वाला मौसम बदलाव से बुरी तरह प्रभावित है। उनकी आकांक्षा एक सतत भविष्य की है, लेकिन उनकी परिस्थितियाँ जलवायु संबंधी चिंता और बाधित आजीविका से ग्रस्त हैं। सामुदायिक लचीलेपन में निवेश करके और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य सहायता प्रदान करके, हम उन्हें नई पहल करने और स्थानीय समाधानों का नेतृत्व करने में मदद कर सकते हैं, जो 2026 की थीम का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है।

A: Hello everyone, and welcome back to Sangyan Podcast! My name is Deepanshi, and today we are celebrating a very special occasion. August 12th is International Youth Day. This year, the United Nations has given it a beautiful and very relevant theme: "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations."

B: Hello everyone. My name is Khushi. I really love this year's theme, especially for us here in India. We often talk about the difference between urban and rural India, or between different states. But this theme reminds us that whether a young person is from a hustling metro like Mumbai or a remote village in Jharkhand, we all want the exact same basic things.

A: Absolutely. Let's break down this theme: "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations". What does that actually mean for the Indian youth today?

B: Well, "Different Contexts" means the reality we face depending on where we live and our socioeconomic background. For example, a teenager in Delhi might worry about digital privacy, cyberbullying, or getting into a top engineering college. But a teenager in a drought-prone village might be worried about dropping out of school to help their family survive, or dealing with the impacts of climate change. According to the UN, young people in developing countries like ours face huge challenges like poverty, climate change, and unequal access to technology.

A: That's a very real "different context" for millions of young Indians. But what about the "Common Aspirations" part?

B: This is the beautiful part. Despite those huge differences, the UN points out that young people everywhere want the exact same things. We all want good health, mental well-being, a quality education, meaningful employment, and safe communities. We want gender equality, dignity, and a sustainable future. An Indian student preparing for exams wants a good job, just like a young person in any other country.

A: That makes a lot of sense. And I think that's where public health comes into play. From a public health perspective, how do we actually help young Indians reach these common aspirations?

B: Great question. It starts with strong health systems. The World Health Organization, WHO, tells us that adolescents need youth-friendly primary health care. In India, initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and the network of ASHA workers are trying to bridge this gap. It means services that are accessible, non-judgmental, and easy to use. If a young person needs help, whether it's for physical health, mental health, or sexual and reproductive health, the system needs to be there for them without stigma.

A: Mental health is a massive topic right now, especially with the immense academic pressure Indian students face. What do the official numbers say about it?

B: The numbers are quite stark. WHO reports that globally, one in seven teenagers experiences a mental disorder. That accounts for 15% of the global disease burden for that age group. Conditions like anxiety and depression are leading causes of illness. The scary part is that half of all mental health conditions that appear in adulthood actually start by age 18, and most of them go untreated. In India, we are starting to see a massive push for mental health awareness in schools and colleges, which is a great step forward.

A: That's why creating supportive environments is so crucial. Schools, families, and communities need to be safe spaces. It's not just about medical treatment; it's about preventing these issues by reducing stress, promoting healthy lifestyles, and fighting social exclusion.

B: Exactly. And speaking of social exclusion, we have to talk about health equity. This means making sure that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. Right now, there is a huge gap. UNICEF notes that 90% of the world's adolescents live in low- and middle-income countries, and they are the most vulnerable.

In India, this means ensuring that a girl in a tribal area has the same access to nutrition and healthcare as a boy in a metropolitan city.

A: So, the context is different, the resources are different, but the need for equity is the same. Can we put this into a real-life Indian scenario, Khushi?

B: Sure! Imagine a young woman named Ananya living in a rural village in Rajasthan. Her "context" is that she lives far from a hospital, faces high social stigma around reproductive health, and her family is struggling financially. Her "aspiration" is to stay healthy, finish her higher secondary education, and maybe become a nurse.

A: Right. So how does a public health approach help Ananya?

B: A strong primary health care system would bring services closer to her. This could mean the local Sub-Centre or Primary Health Centre (PHC) providing youth-friendly counseling, or an ASHA worker talking to her family about keeping her in school. It also means education—teaching her and her community about health and rights so she isn't stigmatized. When we remove those barriers, we help Ananya achieve her aspirations.

A: That's a perfect example. Another scenario could be a young person living in a coastal village in Kerala, severely affected by unpredictable weather due to climate change. Their aspiration is a sustainable future, but their context is climate anxiety and disrupted livelihoods. By investing in community resilience and providing mental health support, we can help them innovate and lead local solutions, which is a huge part of the 2026 theme.

B: It really comes down to the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. India is making great strides toward universal health coverage, but we need to ensure that no one, especially young people, are left behind.

A: Before we wrap up, what is the main message you want our listeners to take away today?

B: I think the biggest takeaway is that despite our different backgrounds—whether we are from different states, different economic classes, or different cities and villages—we share the same dreams. We need global solidarity, but also local unity. We must invest in our health systems and ensure equity so that every young Indian, regardless of their context, has the opportunity to thrive. Let's work together to build that sustainable future.

Theme: Realizing the Hopes and Aspirations of Young People – Today and for the Future

B: और मैं हूँ Deepanshi। विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस के इस विशेष एपिसोड में आपका हार्दिक स्वागत है।

A: हर साल 11 जुलाई को विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस मनाया जाता है। यह दिन हमें केवल बढ़ती जनसंख्या के बारे में सोचने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि उन अवसरों और चुनौतियों पर भी विचार करने के लिए प्रेरित करता है जो हमारे समाज और आने वाली पीढ़ियों को प्रभावित करते हैं। इस वर्ष की आधिकारिक थीम है—"आज और भविष्य के लिए युवाओं की आशाओं और आकांक्षाओं को साकार करना।" यह थीम हमें याद दिलाती है कि युवा केवल हमारे भविष्य का हिस्सा नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे आज भी समाज को नई दिशा दे रहे हैं।

B: जब भी हम जनसंख्या शब्द सुनते हैं, तो सबसे पहले हमारे मन में क्या आता है? 8 अरब से ज़्यादा लोग… बढ़ते शहर… सीमित संसाधन… लेकिन क्या जनसंख्या की कहानी सिर्फ इतनी ही है?

A: बिल्कुल नहीं। जनसंख्या सिर्फ लोगों की संख्या नहीं है। यह उनके स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा, अवसरों, सम्मान और अपने जीवन से जुड़े फैसले लेने की आज़ादी की भी बात है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के अनुसार, दुनिया की आबादी अब 8.2 अरब से अधिक हो चुकी है। लेकिन शायद इससे भी ज़्यादा ज़रूरी सवाल यह है कि क्या हर व्यक्ति, खासकर हर युवा, अपने सपनों को पूरा करने का समान अवसर पा रहा है?

B: यह सोचने का एक अलग ही नज़रिया है। ज़रा सोचिए… एक ही दिन दो बच्चों का जन्म होता है। एक ऐसे शहर में जहाँ अच्छे स्कूल हैं, साफ़ पीने का पानी है और बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सेवाएँ उपलब्ध हैं। दूसरा ऐसे क्षेत्र में जहाँ बुनियादी सुविधाएँ भी आसानी से नहीं मिल पातीं। दोनों की उम्र तो समान होगी, लेकिन उनके जीवन के अवसर शायद बिल्कुल अलग होंगे।

A: बिल्कुल सही। यही वजह है कि जनस्वास्थ्य केवल बीमारियों का इलाज करने तक सीमित नहीं है। इसका उद्देश्य ऐसा वातावरण बनाना है जहाँ हर बच्चा और हर युवा स्वस्थ रह सके, अच्छी शिक्षा पा सके और अपने सपनों को पूरा करने का अवसर प्राप्त कर सके।

B: अगर हम युवाओं से पूछें कि वे अपने जीवन में क्या चाहते हैं, तो उनके सपने बहुत सामान्य होते हैं। अच्छी शिक्षा… एक सम्मानजनक नौकरी… आर्थिक सुरक्षा… अच्छे रिश्ते… और सही समय आने पर अपना परिवार शुरू करने का अवसर।

A: और ये कोई असाधारण इच्छाएँ नहीं हैं। ये दुनिया भर के लाखों युवाओं की सामान्य आकांक्षाएँ हैं। यूएनएफपीए (UNFPA) के "डेमोग्राफिक फ्यूचर्स सर्वे" में 73 देशों के एक लाख से अधिक युवाओं से बात की गई। इस सर्वे में पाया गया कि अधिकांश युवा भविष्य में परिवार बसाना चाहते हैं, लेकिन बढ़ती महँगाई, घर की बढ़ती कीमतें, नौकरी की अनिश्चितता, संघर्ष, जलवायु परिवर्तन और सीमित अवसर उनके रास्ते में बड़ी चुनौतियाँ बन रहे हैं।

B: यानी समस्या यह नहीं है कि युवाओं ने सपने देखना छोड़ दिया है। समस्या यह है कि उन सपनों को पूरा करना पहले से कहीं ज़्यादा मुश्किल होता जा रहा है।

A: बिल्कुल। मान लीजिए एक युवती ने अभी-अभी अपनी पढ़ाई पूरी की है। वह अच्छी नौकरी करना चाहती है, अपने परिवार का सहारा बनना चाहती है, आर्थिक रूप से आत्मनिर्भर बनना चाहती है और भविष्य में अपना परिवार भी बसाना चाहती है। लेकिन अगर उसे स्थायी रोजगार ही न मिले, तो उसके कई सपनों को इंतज़ार करना पड़ सकता है।

B: या फिर एक ऐसे युवा की कल्पना कीजिए जो बड़े शहर में रहता है। उसके पास हुनर भी है और मेहनत करने का जज़्बा भी। लेकिन अच्छी नौकरी, किफ़ायती घर और बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सेवाएँ पाना उसके लिए आसान नहीं है। ऐसी चुनौतियाँ सिर्फ एक व्यक्ति को नहीं, बल्कि पूरे परिवार और समाज के भविष्य को प्रभावित करती हैं।

A: और यही वह जगह है जहाँ जनस्वास्थ्य की भूमिका सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हो जाती है। एक स्वस्थ समाज केवल जनसंख्या से नहीं बनता। यह अच्छी स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं, पौष्टिक भोजन, गुणवत्तापूर्ण शिक्षा, लैंगिक समानता, सुरक्षित वातावरण और समान अवसरों से बनता है।

B: भारत दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी युवा आबादी वाले देशों में से एक है। यह अपने आप में एक बहुत बड़ा अवसर है।

A: बिल्कुल। भारत की युवा आबादी हमारी सबसे बड़ी ताकत बन सकती है। राष्ट्रीय परिवार स्वास्थ्य सर्वेक्षण यानी NFHS-5 के अनुसार, भारत की कुल प्रजनन दर अब 2.0 बच्चे प्रति महिला है। यह दर्शाता है कि लोग अब अधिक जागरूक होकर अपने परिवार से जुड़े निर्णय ले रहे हैं। साथ ही मातृ स्वास्थ्य, संस्थागत प्रसव और शिशु स्वास्थ्य में भी उल्लेखनीय सुधार हुआ है। लेकिन अगर हमें युवाओं की आकांक्षाओं को सच करना है, तो हमें शिक्षा, कौशल विकास, रोजगार, मानसिक स्वास्थ्य, पोषण और गुणवत्तापूर्ण स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं में लगातार निवेश करना होगा।

A: नहीं। हर देश की जनसंख्या से जुड़ी चुनौतियाँ अलग-अलग हैं। कुछ देशों में जनसंख्या बढ़ रही है, जबकि कई देशों में जन्म दर कम हो रही है और बुज़ुर्ग आबादी बढ़ रही है। इसलिए समाधान केवल जनसंख्या कम या ज़्यादा करने में नहीं है। असल उद्देश्य यह होना चाहिए कि हर व्यक्ति को सही जानकारी, बेहतर स्वास्थ्य सेवाएँ और अपने जीवन से जुड़े फैसले लेने की स्वतंत्रता मिले।

B: यानी जनसंख्या की असली चर्चा लोगों के विकास की होनी चाहिए, केवल आँकड़ों की नहीं।

A: बिल्कुल। आज जलवायु परिवर्तन, प्रदूषण, स्वच्छ पानी की उपलब्धता, पोषण और सभी तक समान स्वास्थ्य सेवाएँ पहुँचाना पहले से कहीं ज़्यादा ज़रूरी हो गया है। एक स्वस्थ समाज बनाने के लिए सरकार, स्वास्थ्यकर्मी, शिक्षक, शोधकर्ता, नीति-निर्माता और हम सभी की बराबर जिम्मेदारी है। छोटे-छोटे कदम—जैसे लड़कियों की शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देना, स्वस्थ जीवनशैली अपनाना, पानी बचाना या सही स्वास्थ्य जानकारी साझा करना—भी समाज में बड़ा बदलाव ला सकते हैं।

B: तो शायद इस वर्ष के विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस का सबसे बड़ा संदेश यही है— युवा केवल हमारा भविष्य नहीं हैं। वे आज भी बदलाव ला रहे हैं। जब उन्हें अच्छी शिक्षा, बेहतर स्वास्थ्य, समान अवसर और सही फैसले लेने की आज़ादी मिलती है, तो पूरा समाज आगे बढ़ता है।

A: बिल्कुल। इस विश्व जनसंख्या दिवस पर आइए, हम युवाओं की आशाओं और आकांक्षाओं को साकार करने का संकल्प लें। क्योंकि जब युवा आगे बढ़ते हैं, तो परिवार मजबूत होते हैं, समाज स्वस्थ बनता है और देश प्रगति करता है।

B: Hello everyone, I'm Deepanshi. Thank you for joining us on this special episode as we observe World Population Day, celebrated every year on 11th July.

A: Every year, World Population Day encourages us to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that shape our societies. This year's official theme—"Realizing the Hopes and Aspirations of Young People – Today and for the Future"—reminds us that young people are not just the future of our nations; they are shaping our present as well.

B: When we hear the word population, most of us immediately think of numbers. Eight billion people, growing cities, limited resources. But is the population really just about counting people, Ritika?

A: Not at all. Population is ultimately about people—their health, education, opportunities, dignity, and the freedom to make informed choices about their own lives. According to the United Nations, the world's population has now crossed 8.2 billion. But perhaps the more important question isn't how many people are there? It is, Are we creating conditions where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life!

B: That's an interesting way to look at it, Ritika. Imagine two children born on the same day—one in a community with good schools, safe drinking water, and accessible healthcare, and another in a place where basic services are difficult to access. They may be the same age, but their opportunities in life can be completely different.

A: Exactly. That's why public health isn't just about preventing diseases. It's about creating conditions where every child and every young person can learn, grow, stay healthy, and build the future they aspire to.

B: When we ask young people what they hope for, their dreams are actually quite simple. A good education. A meaningful job. Financial security. Healthy relationships. And one day, perhaps, the opportunity to start a family—when they are ready.

A: And these aren't extraordinary dreams. They're aspirations are shared by millions of young people around the world. The UNFPA Demographic Futures Survey, which gathered the views of more than 108,000 young adults across 73 countries, found that most young people still aspire to partnership and parenthood. However, economic uncertainty, rising housing costs, insecure employment, conflict, climate concerns, and unequal opportunities often make those aspirations difficult to achieve.

B: So the challenge isn't that young people have stopped dreaming. It's that many are finding it harder to turn those dreams into reality. Right Ritika?

A: Exactly. Think about a young graduate who has just completed university. She wants to build a successful career, support her family, become financially independent, and perhaps start a family in the future. But without stable employment or financial security, many of those dreams have to wait.

B: Or imagine a young man living in a rapidly growing city. He has the skills and the determination to succeed. Yet finding affordable housing, quality healthcare, and secure employment can feel like an uphill battle. These challenges don't just affect individuals—they influence families, communities, and ultimately the future of our society.

A: And that's where public health plays such an important role. Healthy societies are built through quality healthcare, good nutrition, education, gender equality, safe environments, and equal opportunities—not by numbers alone.

B: India has one of the largest youth populations in the world. That sounds like a tremendous opportunity. Right Ritika!

A: It truly is. India's young population represents a tremendous demographic advantage. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), India's Total Fertility Rate has reached 2.0 children per woman, reflecting informed reproductive choices. At the same time, improvements in maternal healthcare, institutional deliveries, and child survival demonstrate how investments in health systems can improve lives. But to truly realize the aspirations of young people, we must continue investing in quality education, skill development, employment opportunities, mental health, nutrition, and accessible healthcare.

B: And I think that's where many people misunderstand population issues. Some believe the solution is simply to reduce population numbers. Is it really that simple, Ritika?

A: Not at all. Different countries face different demographic realities. Some are experiencing rapid population growth, while others are struggling with ageing populations and declining birth rates. That's why the goal is not population control. The goal is ensuring that every individual has the knowledge, healthcare, and opportunities to make informed decisions about their own lives.

B: Which means population is ultimately about human development. Not just demographics.

A: Absolutely. As cities continue to grow, challenges such as climate change, pollution, access to clean water, sanitation, nutrition, and equitable healthcare become increasingly important. Building healthier communities requires the collective efforts of governments, healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, policymakers, and each one of us. Even simple actions—supporting girls' education, promoting healthy lifestyles, conserving natural resources, or sharing reliable health information—can contribute to a healthier future.

B: So perhaps the real message of this year's World Population Day is this— Young people don't simply represent tomorrow. They are shaping today. When they are healthy, educated, empowered, and able to make informed choices, entire communities prosper.

A: Exactly. This World Population Day, let's invest in the hopes and aspirations of young people—not only for the future, but for today. Because when young people thrive, families become stronger, communities become healthier, and nations move forward together.

A (Khushi): नमस्कार सभी को और संग्यान पॉडकास्ट के एक और एपिसोड में आपका स्वागत है। मैं हूँ Khushi ।आज विश्व तंबाकू निषेध दिवस के अवसर पर हम एक ऐसे विषय पर बात करने जा रहे हैं जो दुनिया भर में लाखों लोगों के जीवन को प्रभावित करता है—तंबाकू और निकोटीन की लत।लेकिन शुरुआत करने से पहले मैं आपसे एक सवाल पूछना चाहती हूँ। क्या आपने कभी कोई ऐसा तंबाकू या निकोटीन उत्पाद देखा है जो आधुनिक, आकर्षक या कम नुकसानदायक लगता हो?

B (Shagun): नमस्कार सभी को, मैं हूँ Shagun और सच कहूँ तो, हममें से ज्यादातर लोगों का जवाब शायद "हाँ" होगा। रंग-बिरंगे वेप, अलग-अलग फ्लेवर वाले उत्पाद, आकर्षक पैकेजिंग और सोशल मीडिया पर दिखाई देने वाले विज्ञापन—ये सब खासकर युवाओं को आकर्षित करने के लिए बनाए जाते हैं।

A: बिल्कुल। और यही वजह है कि इस वर्ष की थीम इतनी महत्वपूर्ण है— "आकर्षण के पीछे की सच्चाई – निकोटीन और तंबाकू की लत से मुकाबला।" यह थीम हमें याद दिलाती है कि हमें चमकदार पैकेजिंग और आकर्षक विज्ञापनों से आगे बढ़कर इन उत्पादों की वास्तविकता को समझना होगा।

B: क्योंकि जब हम इनके आकर्षक रूप को हटाकर देखते हैं, तो हमें एक ऐसी चीज़ दिखाई देती है जो लोगों को अपनी लत में बाँधने के लिए बनाई गई है। और यही बात कई लोग शुरुआत में समझ नहीं पाते।

A: सही कहा। अधिकांश लोग तंबाकू या निकोटीन का इस्तेमाल इसलिए शुरू नहीं करते कि उन्हें इसकी लत लग जाए। कई लोग जिज्ञासा में इसे आजमाते हैं, कुछ दोस्तों के प्रभाव में, और कुछ लोग यह सोचते हैं कि इससे तनाव कम होगा या वे अधिक आत्मविश्वासी महसूस करेंगे।

B: और यहीं पर मार्केटिंग की भूमिका शुरू होती है। कई उत्पादों को इस तरह पेश किया जाता है कि वे आधुनिक, स्टाइलिश या सामान्य सिगरेट से कम नुकसानदायक लगें। कुछ को तो "सुरक्षित विकल्प" के रूप में भी दिखाया जाता है।

A: लेकिन सच्चाई यह है कि इनमें से कई उत्पादों में निकोटीन होता है, जो एक अत्यधिक लत लगाने वाला पदार्थ है। और निकोटीन केवल शरीर को ही नहीं, बल्कि हमारे मस्तिष्क को भी प्रभावित करता है।

B: खासकर युवाओं में।किशोरावस्था मस्तिष्क के विकास का महत्वपूर्ण समय होता है। इस दौरान निकोटीन का सेवन सीखने की क्षमता, ध्यान, याददाश्त और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य पर असर डाल सकता है। इसके साथ ही, भविष्य में लंबे समय तक लत बने रहने का खतरा भी बढ़ जाता है।

A: जब हम तंबाकू के नुकसान की बात करते हैं, तो अक्सर लोगों के मन में केवल फेफड़ों के कैंसर का विचार आता है। लेकिन इसका असर इससे कहीं अधिक व्यापक है। तंबाकू का सेवन हृदय रोग, स्ट्रोक, फेफड़ों की बीमारियों, मुंह के कैंसर और कई अन्य प्रकार के कैंसर का खतरा बढ़ाता है।

B: भारत में मुंह का कैंसर सबसे आम कैंसरों में से एक है, और तंबाकू इसका एक प्रमुख कारण है।कई लोग यह मान लेते हैं कि गुटखा, खैनी या अन्य धूम्रपान रहित तंबाकू उत्पाद कम नुकसानदायक होते हैं, लेकिन इनके भी गंभीर स्वास्थ्य प्रभाव हो सकते हैं।

A: और तंबाकू केवल उसका सेवन करने वाले व्यक्ति को ही नुकसान नहीं पहुँचाता। सेकेंड-हैंड स्मोक, यानी दूसरों के धुएँ के संपर्क में आना भी परिवार के सदस्यों, बच्चों और आसपास के लोगों के स्वास्थ्य को प्रभावित करता है। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के अनुसार, तंबाकू हर वर्ष दुनिया भर में 80 लाख से अधिक लोगों की मृत्यु का कारण बनता है।

B: और इनमें से लगभग 10 लाख लोग ऐसे होते हैं जो स्वयं तंबाकू का सेवन नहीं करते, लेकिन दूसरों के धुएँ के संपर्क में आते हैं। यह सोचने वाली बात है कि किसी व्यक्ति की आदत उसके आसपास के लोगों की सेहत को भी प्रभावित कर सकती है।

A: इसके अलावा तंबाकू का आर्थिक प्रभाव भी होता है। तंबाकू पर खर्च होने वाला पैसा कई बार परिवार की शिक्षा, पोषण और स्वास्थ्य जैसी ज़रूरतों से समझौता करवाता है।

B: और इसका असर केवल स्वास्थ्य और आर्थिक स्थिति तक सीमित नहीं है।तंबाकू की खेती से वनों की कटाई बढ़ती है, सिगरेट के टुकड़े पर्यावरण को प्रदूषित करते हैं, और वेपिंग उत्पाद इलेक्ट्रॉनिक कचरे की समस्या को बढ़ाते हैं।

A: यानि तंबाकू केवल हमारे स्वास्थ्य को ही नहीं, बल्कि हमारे पर्यावरण को भी नुकसान पहुँचाता है।

B: तो सवाल यह है कि हम क्या कर सकते हैं?

A: सबसे पहला कदम है—जागरूकता। जब हम समझते हैं कि इन उत्पादों का प्रचार किस तरह किया जाता है और इनके पीछे की सच्चाई क्या है, तो हम बेहतर निर्णय ले सकते हैं।

B: दूसरा कदम है उन लोगों का समर्थन करना जो तंबाकू छोड़ने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। तंबाकू छोड़ना आसान नहीं होता, क्योंकि निकोटीन की लत बहुत मजबूत होती है।

A: लेकिन यह बिल्कुल संभव है।और यह याद रखना जरूरी है कि तंबाकू छोड़ने की दिशा में किया गया हर प्रयास महत्वपूर्ण है।

B: परिवार, दोस्तों और स्वास्थ्य विशेषज्ञों का सहयोग इस सफर को आसान बना सकता है।और माता-पिता तथा शिक्षकों की भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है। यदि हम युवाओं से खुलकर बात करें और उन्हें सही जानकारी दें, तो वे बेहतर निर्णय ले सकते हैं।

A:: तो इस विश्व तंबाकू निषेध दिवस पर आइए, हम आकर्षक पैकेजिंग, फ्लेवर और विज्ञापनों के पीछे छिपी सच्चाई को पहचानें।

B: क्योंकि अच्छे स्वास्थ्य की शुरुआत सही जानकारी और सही निर्णय से होती है।

A: और तंबाकू-मुक्त जीवन की ओर बढ़ाया गया हर कदम एक स्वस्थ भविष्य की ओर बढ़ाया गया कदम है।

Today, on World No Tobacco Day, we're discussing an issue that affects millions of lives worldwide—tobacco and nicotine addiction. But before we begin, let me ask you a simple question. Have you ever seen a tobacco or nicotine product that looked modern, stylish, or even harmless?

B (Shagun): Hello everyone, I'm Shagun. And honestly, I think most of us have. Whether it's colorful vape devices, flavored products, sleek packaging, or social media advertisements, many nicotine and tobacco products are designed to look attractive—especially to young people.

A: And that's exactly why this year's World No Tobacco Day theme is so relevant: "Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction." The theme reminds us to look beyond the attractive packaging and marketing and understand what's really behind these products.

B: Because when we remove the attractive packaging, the flavors, and the advertising, what we're left with is a product designed to create addiction. And that's something many people don't realize in the beginning.

A: That's true. Most people don't start smoking or vaping because they want to become addicted. Some start out of curiosity. Some because of peer pressure. Others may believe it helps reduce stress or helps them fit in socially.

B: And that's where marketing becomes powerful. Many products are made to look fashionable, modern, or less harmful than traditional cigarettes. Some are even marketed as "cleaner" or "safer" alternatives.

A: But the reality is that many of these products still contain nicotine—a highly addictive substance. And nicotine doesn't just affect the body. It affects the brain too.

B: Especially among young people. Research shows that adolescence is a critical period for brain development. Exposure to nicotine during these years can affect attention, learning, memory, and increase the risk of long-term dependence.

A: And while many people associate tobacco only with lung cancer, the impact goes far beyond that. Tobacco use increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, chronic respiratory diseases, oral cancer, and several other cancers.

B: In India, oral cancer remains one of the most common cancers, and tobacco use is one of its biggest risk factors. Many forms of smokeless tobacco are often considered less harmful, but they can have serious health consequences too.

A: And tobacco doesn't only harm the person using it. Second-hand smoke affects family members, friends, coworkers, and even children. According to the World Health Organization, tobacco kills more than 8 million people every year worldwide, including over one million non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke.

B: That's a staggering number. And beyond health, tobacco also creates economic and social burdens. Money spent on tobacco products often comes at the cost of education, nutrition, healthcare, and other household needs.

A: There's also an environmental side to this issue that we don't talk about enough. Tobacco cultivation contributes to deforestation, cigarette butts are among the most commonly discarded forms of litter globally, and many vaping products generate electronic waste.

B: Which means tobacco affects not only our health but also the health of our planet.

A: So what can we do?

B: The first step is awareness. Understanding how tobacco and nicotine products are marketed helps us make informed decisions. When we recognize these tactics, we're less likely to be influenced by them.

A: The second step is supporting people who are trying to quit. Quitting tobacco isn't easy because nicotine addiction is powerful. Many people need multiple attempts before they successfully quit.

B: And that's okay. Every attempt to quit is progress. Support from family, friends, healthcare professionals, and quitlines can make a huge difference.

A: Parents and teachers also have an important role. Having open conversations with young people about tobacco, vaping, and nicotine products can help them make informed choices before they are influenced by marketing or peer pressure.

B: On This World No Tobacco Day, let's look beyond the flavors, the packaging, and the advertisements. Let's understand the reality behind these products and help others do the same.

A: Because protecting our health begins with informed choices.

B: And every step toward a tobacco-free life is a step toward a healthier future.

B: सुनने में तो काफी दमदार लगता है… लेकिन थोड़ा confusing भी, है ना? आखिर हमारे पास कौन-सी "power" है?

A: चलिए इसे थोड़ा आसान बनाते हैं। क्या आपको लगता है कि एक लाइट बंद करने से कोई फर्क पड़ता है?

B: अकेले करने पर छोटा लगता है। लेकिन अगर लाखों लोग वही काम करें तो?

A: तब छोटा कदम भी बड़ा असर बन जाता है।

B: बिल्कुल। बदलाव एक बड़े काम से नहीं, बल्कि छोटे-छोटे लगातार किए गए कामों से आता है।

A: अपने रोज़ के habits के बारे में सोचिए — चार्जर प्लग में छोड़ देना, खाली कमरे में पंखा चलने देना…

B: …या ब्रश करते समय नल खुला छोड़ देना।

A: ये छोटी-छोटी आदतें लगती हैं, लेकिन मिलकर बहुत ज़्यादा ऊर्जा और पानी बर्बाद करती हैं।

B: अब बात करते हैं एक ऐसी चीज़ की जो हम सबको पसंद है — शॉपिंग।

A: (हंसते हुए) ये थोड़ा tricky topic है।

B: सच-सच बताइए — क्या आपने कभी ऐसी चीज खरीदी है जिसकी आपको जरूरत नहीं थी?

A: हाँ… कई बार।

B: (हंसते हुए) मुझे लगता है हम सबने ऐसा किया है। लेकिन अगर थोड़ा ध्यान से सोचें… इसके पीछे एक बड़ी बात छुपी है। हर चीज़ जो हम खरीदते हैं, उसका पर्यावरण पर असर होता है — उसे बनाने से लेकर पैकेजिंग और डिलीवरी तक।

A: ओह… यानी ये सब मिलकर हमारे carbon footprint को बढ़ाते हैं।

B: अब बात करते हैं एक ऐसी चीज़ की जिसे हम रोज़ महसूस करते हैं — वायु प्रदूषण।

A: क्या आपको लगता है कि ये सिर्फ दिल्ली जैसे बड़े शहरों की समस्या है?

B: नहीं। रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार, भारत के कई शहर दुनिया के सबसे प्रदूषित शहरों में शामिल हैं।

A: और समस्या यहीं खत्म नहीं होती। हम बढ़ता तापमान, अनियमित बारिश और पानी की कमी भी देख रहे हैं।

B: हीटवेव्स बढ़ रही हैं, और कई शहरों में पानी की गंभीर समस्या हो चुकी है।

A: और इसका असर सब पर एक जैसा नहीं होता — बच्चे, बुजुर्ग और बाहर काम करने वाले लोग ज्यादा प्रभावित होते हैं।

B: तो आखिर इन सबका कारण क्या है?

A: एक बड़ा कारण है — हमारा carbon footprint। सरल भाषा में, यह हमारी रोज़मर्रा की गतिविधियों से होने वाला कुल प्रदूषण है — जैसे बिजली का इस्तेमाल, यात्रा, खाना और खरीदारी।

B: और जब करोड़ों लोग ऐसा करते हैं, तो यह climate change का कारण बनता है।

A: लेकिन एक अच्छी बात भी है — बदलाव शुरू हो चुका है।

B: भारत के युवा आगे आ रहे हैं।

A: कोई सस्ते air purifiers बना रहा है, कोई sustainable products बना रहा है, और कई लोग clean-up drives चला रहे हैं।

B: ये हमें एक बात सिखाता है —

A: बदलाव लाने के लिए आपको बहुत बड़ा या ताकतवर होना जरूरी नहीं है।

B: बस शुरुआत करनी जरूरी है।

A: तो अब बात आप पर आती है। आज आप कौन-सी एक आदत बदल सकते हैं?

B: जैसे — अपनी बोतल साथ रखना, प्लास्टिक कम इस्तेमाल करना, या बिजली बचाना।

A: इन बातों पर दूसरों से बात करना भी एक कदम है।एक पल रुकिए… अपने रोज़ के जीवन के बारे में सोचिए।

B: आप कहाँ एक छोटा बदलाव कर सकते हैं?

Speaker 2 (B): Hello, I'm Rhea, We're glad you joined us today. Before we begin, let's start with something simple — When was the last time you did something for the planet?

A: (Pause) Hmm… even I had to think for a second.

B: (Light laugh) Same here. And that's exactly why today's conversation matters.

A: Today we're talking about World Earth Day, celebrated on April 22. This year's theme is "Our Power, Our Planet."

B: It sounds strong… but also a bit confusing, right? What "power" do we really have?

A: Let's break that down. Do you think switching off one light really makes a difference?

B: Individually, it may feel small. But what if millions of people do the same thing?

A: That's when small actions can become real impact.

B: Exactly. Change doesn't come from one big step — it comes from many small, consistent ones.

A: Think about your daily habits — leaving chargers plugged in, keeping fans running in empty rooms…

B: …or letting the tap run while brushing.

A: These seem small, but together they lead to huge waste — of energy and water.

B: Let's talk about something we all enjoy — shopping.

A: (Laughs) That's a tricky one.

B: Be honest — have you ever bought something you didn't really need?

A: Yes… more than once.

B: (laughs) Honestly, I think we've all been there. But if you think about it for a second… There's something important behind this. Every product we buy has an environmental cost — from production to packaging to delivery.

A: Ohhh… so that means all of this actually adds to our carbon footprint.

B: And, now let's talk about something we experience daily — air pollution.

A: Do you think this is only a problem in big cities like Delhi?

B: Not really. According to global air quality reports, many cities in India are among the most polluted in the world.

A: Which means we're breathing unhealthy air almost every day.

B: And that directly affects our health — lungs, heart, and even life expectancy.

A: And it doesn't stop there. We're also seeing rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and water shortages.

B: Heatwaves are becoming more frequent, and water crises are already affecting many cities.

A: And the impact isn't equal — children, the elderly, and outdoor workers are affected the most.

B: So what's really driving all this? A big part of it is our carbon footprint.

A: In simple terms, it's the total emissions caused by our daily activities — like electricity use, travel, food, and consumption.

B: And when millions of people increase their footprint, it leads to climate change.

A: But here's the hopeful part — change is already happening.

B: Young people across India are taking action.

A: From low-cost air purifiers to sustainable products and clean-up drives…

B: They're proving that you don't need to be powerful to create change.

A: You just need to start.

B: So let's bring it back to you. What is one habit you can change today?

A: Maybe carrying your own bottle, reducing plastic use or saving electricity.

B: Even talking about these issues is a step forward.

A: Let's pause for a moment. Think about your daily routine.

B: Where can you make one small change?

A: Because the planet doesn't need a few people doing everything perfectly…

A (Ritika): क्या आपने कभी सोचा है कि दुनिया कैसी होगी अगर हर महिला को पुरुषों के समान अवसर, सुरक्षा और सम्मान मिले? अगर हर लड़की यह विश्वास लेकर बड़ी हो कि उसकी शिक्षा महत्वपूर्ण है, उसका स्वास्थ्य महत्वपूर्ण है, और उसकी आवाज़ मायने रखती है? नमस्कार सभी को। मैं Ritika और आप सुन रहे हैं संग्यान पॉडकास्ट, जो फाउंडेशन ऑफ हेल्थकेयर टेक्नोलॉजीज़ सोसाइटी की एक पहल है। आज 8 मार्च है और पूरी दुनिया अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस मना रही है। यह दिन महिलाओं की उपलब्धियों, उनके संघर्ष, उनकी ताकत और समाज में उनके योगदान को सम्मान देने का दिन है। लेकिन यह दिन हमें एक महत्वपूर्ण सवाल पर सोचने के लिए भी प्रेरित करता है — क्या वास्तव में हम महिलाओं और लड़कियों के लिए समानता की दिशा में उतनी दूर पहुँच पाए हैं, जितना हम सोचते हैं?

B (Dr. Nikita): नमस्कार सभी को, मैं Dr. Nikita हूँ। इस वर्ष का वैश्विक विषय, जिसे संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने घोषित किया है, है — "Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls." यानि सभी महिलाओं और लड़कियों के लिए अधिकार, न्याय और कार्रवाई। ये तीन शब्द सुनने में सरल लगते हैं, लेकिन इनका अर्थ बहुत गहरा है। क्योंकि समानता केवल महिलाओं की उपलब्धियों का जश्न मनाने तक सीमित नहीं है। यह सुनिश्चित करने के बारे में है कि हर महिला और हर लड़की सम्मान, सुरक्षा, अवसर और गरिमा के साथ जीवन जी सके।

A: बिल्कुल। जब हम अधिकारों की बात करते हैं, तो हम उन बुनियादी अधिकारों की बात करते हैं जो हर इंसान को मिलने चाहिए — जैसे शिक्षा का अधिकार, काम करने का अधिकार, सुरक्षित रहने का अधिकार और अपने जीवन से जुड़े फैसले लेने का अधिकार। पिछले कुछ वर्षों में प्रगति जरूर हुई है, लेकिन दुनिया के कई हिस्सों में आज भी महिलाओं को पुरुषों के बराबर अधिकार और अवसर नहीं मिलते।

B: और यह केवल वैश्विक स्तर की बात नहीं है। भारत में भी कुछ महत्वपूर्ण चुनौतियाँ अभी मौजूद हैं। उदाहरण के लिए, राष्ट्रीय परिवार स्वास्थ्य सर्वेक्षण (NFHS-5) के अनुसार भारत में केवल लगभग 42% महिलाएँ अपने स्वास्थ्य से जुड़े फैसले खुद ले पाती हैं। इसके अलावा, महिलाओं की श्रम बल भागीदारी दर अभी भी लगभग 30% के आसपास है, जिसका मतलब है कि बड़ी संख्या में महिलाएँ आर्थिक गतिविधियों में शामिल नहीं हो पातीं।

A: और यह स्थिति केवल आर्थिक या सामाजिक मुद्दा नहीं है — यह सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य का भी विषय है। जब महिलाओं को शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं और आर्थिक अवसरों तक बराबर पहुँच मिलती है, तो इसका सकारात्मक प्रभाव पूरे परिवार और समाज पर पड़ता है। उदाहरण के लिए, जब एक महिला शिक्षित होती है और अपने स्वास्थ्य से जुड़े फैसले ले पाती है, तो उसके बच्चों के टीकाकरण, पोषण और स्वास्थ्य की स्थिति भी बेहतर होती है।

B: इसीलिए महिलाओं के सशक्तिकरण को कई सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य कार्यक्रमों का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा बनाया गया है। भारत सरकार ने इस दिशा में कई पहलें शुरू की हैं। जैसे "बेटी बचाओ, बेटी पढ़ाओ", जिसका उद्देश्य लड़कियों की शिक्षा और उनके अधिकारों को बढ़ावा देना है। इसके अलावा प्रधानमंत्री मातृ वंदना योजना गर्भवती महिलाओं को पोषण और देखभाल के लिए आर्थिक सहायता प्रदान करती है। और जननी सुरक्षा योजना सुरक्षित प्रसव को बढ़ावा देकर मातृ मृत्यु दर को कम करने में मदद करती है।

A: स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं तक महिलाओं की पहुँच बढ़ाने के लिए आयुष्मान भारत योजना भी एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है, जो लाखों परिवारों को स्वास्थ्य बीमा के माध्यम से आर्थिक सुरक्षा प्रदान करती है। इसके साथ ही मिशन शक्ति जैसी पहलें महिलाओं की सुरक्षा, सशक्तिकरण और सहायता सेवाओं को मजबूत करने के लिए शुरू की गई हैं।

B: लेकिन केवल नीतियाँ बनाना ही पर्याप्त नहीं है। यह भी जरूरी है कि ये नीतियाँ जमीनी स्तर तक पहुँचे और हर महिला तक इनके लाभ पहुँचें। इसीलिए इस वर्ष के विषय का दूसरा शब्द — न्याय — बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है।

A: न्याय का मतलब केवल कानून बनाना नहीं है। इसका मतलब यह भी है कि उन कानूनों का सही तरीके से पालन हो। महिलाओं को हिंसा, भेदभाव या उत्पीड़न की स्थिति में बिना डर के शिकायत करने का अधिकार होना चाहिए और उन्हें एक निष्पक्ष न्याय प्रणाली मिलनी चाहिए।

B: और यही हमें इस वर्ष के विषय के तीसरे शब्द तक ले जाता है — कार्रवाई। क्योंकि असली बदलाव केवल जागरूकता से नहीं आता। इसके लिए सरकारों, संस्थाओं, समुदायों और व्यक्तियों — सभी को मिलकर कदम उठाने पड़ते हैं।

A: ये कदम कई रूपों में हो सकते हैं — जैसे लड़कियों की शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देना, समान काम के लिए समान वेतन सुनिश्चित करना, महिलाओं के खिलाफ हिंसा के मामलों में सख्त कार्रवाई करना, और विज्ञान, राजनीति, स्वास्थ्य और नेतृत्व के क्षेत्रों में महिलाओं की भागीदारी बढ़ाना।

B: साथ ही यह भी जरूरी है कि हम समाज में मौजूद उन पुरानी धारणाओं और रूढ़ियों को चुनौती दें जो महिलाओं और लड़कियों के अवसरों को सीमित करती हैं।कई बार बदलाव छोटे-छोटे कदमों से शुरू होता है — जैसे लड़कियों को पढ़ाई के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना, कामकाजी महिलाओं का समर्थन करना, और समाज में बराबरी और सम्मान की सोच को बढ़ावा देना।

A: और जब हम इन बाधाओं को दूर करते हैं, तो इसके लाभ केवल महिलाओं तक सीमित नहीं रहते। UN Women और अन्य संगठनों के शोध बताते हैं कि जब महिलाओं को शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य और आर्थिक अवसरों तक बराबर पहुँच मिलती है, तो समाज अधिक स्वस्थ, सुरक्षित और समृद्ध बनते हैं।

B: इसका मतलब है कि लैंगिक समानता केवल महिलाओं का मुद्दा नहीं है। यह विकास का मुद्दा है, स्वास्थ्य का मुद्दा है, और मानवाधिकारों का मुद्दा है। जब महिलाएँ आगे बढ़ती हैं, तो परिवार मजबूत होते हैं। और जब परिवार मजबूत होते हैं, तो समाज और देश भी आगे बढ़ते हैं।

A: तो इस अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस पर आइए हम याद रखें कि अधिकार, न्याय और कार्रवाई केवल शब्द नहीं हैं — यह हमारी साझा जिम्मेदारी है। एक ऐसी दुनिया बनाने की जिम्मेदारी, जहाँ हर महिला और हर लड़की को अपनी पूरी क्षमता तक पहुँचने का अवसर मिले।

B: एक ऐसी दुनिया, जहाँ समानता केवल एक सपना नहीं, बल्कि एक वास्तविकता हो।

A (Dr. Nikita): Have you ever wondered what the world would look like if every woman had the same opportunities, safety, and respect as men? What if every girl could grow up knowing that her education matters, her health matters, and her voice matters? Hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode of the Sangyaan Podcast, an initiative by the Foundation of Healthcare Technologies Society. I'm Dr. Nikita. Today, March 8, people across the world are observing International Women's Day — a day to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women in every sphere of life. But it is also a day to pause and reflect on an important question: how far have we truly come in achieving equality for women and girls?

B (Ritika): Hi everyone, I'm Ritika. And this year's global theme, announced by the United Nations, is "Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls." These three words carry a powerful message. Because gender equality is not just about celebrating women's achievements once a year. It is about ensuring that women and girls everywhere can live with dignity, safety, opportunity, and respect.

A: Exactly. When we talk about rights, we are referring to the basic freedoms every human being deserves — the right to education, the right to work, the right to safety, and the right to make decisions about their own lives. Over the years, progress has certainly been made. Many more girls today are going to school, women are entering leadership positions, and conversations around equality are becoming stronger. But the reality is that many women around the world still do not enjoy the same legal rights and opportunities as men.

B: In fact, according to the World Bank's Women, Business and the Law report, women globally have only about 64 percent of the legal rights that men have. This affects important areas of life such as employment opportunities, property ownership, financial independence, and protection from discrimination.

A: If we look at India, the picture shows both progress and challenges. India's female literacy rate has improved significantly, reaching about 70 percent according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5). However, many women still face barriers in employment and leadership roles. For example, women's labour force participation in India is around 37 percent, meaning that a large proportion of women remain outside the workforce despite having the skills and education to contribute.

B: And gender inequality is not only a social or economic issue — it is also a public health issue. For instance, NFHS-5 data shows that nearly one in three women in India has experienced some form of spousal violence. Experiences like these affect not just physical safety but also mental health, economic independence, and access to healthcare.

A: Exactly. And this is where the second word of the theme becomes important — justice. Having rights written into laws is important, but justice means those rights must actually be protected and enforced. Women must feel safe reporting violence, discrimination, or harassment. They must have access to legal systems that support them and ensure fair treatment.

B: And that brings us to the third word in this year's theme — action. Real change does not happen through awareness alone. It happens when governments, institutions, communities, and individuals actively work to remove barriers and create equal opportunities.

A: In India, several government initiatives are working toward this goal. Programs like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao aim to improve the survival, education, and empowerment of girls. Health programs under the National Health Mission focus on improving maternal and child health services and ensuring access to healthcare for women across the country.

B: Another important initiative is the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which provides clean cooking fuel to women from low-income households. This may sound like a simple intervention, but it has significant health benefits. It reduces exposure to indoor air pollution, which is linked to respiratory illnesses among women who traditionally spend long hours cooking with solid fuels.

A: These initiatives highlight an important idea — that improving women's lives requires solutions across multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and social protection.

B: Let's think about a simple example. Imagine a young girl in a rural community who wants to continue her education. If she is supported, she goes to school, develops skills, and eventually becomes financially independent. But if she is forced to leave school early or denied opportunities, the impact is not only on her life. It affects her family's well-being, her children's future, and even the development of her community.

A: Exactly. Research from organizations like UN Women consistently shows that when women have equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, entire societies benefit. Families become healthier, economies grow stronger, and future generations have better opportunities.

B: So gender equality is not just a women's issue — it is a development issue, a public health issue, and a human rights issue. When women thrive, families thrive. And when families thrive, communities and nations grow stronger.

A: At the same time, achieving equality also requires challenging everyday stereotypes and social norms that limit opportunities for women and girls. Sometimes change begins with simple actions — encouraging girls to pursue education, supporting women in leadership roles, or questioning unfair practices that have existed for generations.

B: And perhaps most importantly, it means recognizing that everyone has a role to play. Governments can create policies. Organizations can build inclusive workplaces. Communities can support women's leadership. And individuals can speak up for fairness and respect in everyday life.

A: So on this International Women's Day, let us remember that Rights. Justice. Action. are not just powerful words — they are commitments. Commitments to building a world where every woman and every girl has the freedom and opportunity to reach her full potential.

B: A world where equality is not just an aspiration, but a reality.
