  • Episode 11: Inspiration from the World Economic Forum
Welcome to episode 11 of the Haiku Pea podcast. www.poetrypea.com. I’m Patricia, your host.  This podcast recounts my journey as I try and improve my haiku writing. And I’m sharing what I learn along the way with you.
I also like to feature work from other Haiku writers and find out what interests them, what they are reading and what they can recommend to you and I. This week my Guest Haijin is Goran.
You may know that I live in Switzerland, and last week we had rather an important event going on over here, the world economic forum. It rather disturbed my walks and took over my writing from Tuesday onwards. You can read the resulting haiku on my website www.poetrypea.com

  • Episode 10: Look! The snow's back
Episode 10 of the Haiku Pea podcast all about Haiku from www.poetrypea.com.
It’s snowing again here in Zürich. My apologies if you can here the icy snowflakes falling on the roof of my studio. I hope the weather is better where you are.
So last week I told you about the new pages on the website which recommend books and websites which I have found useful and this week, I’d like to tell you about another new feature on the website, which I will build up over time, publications, blogs etc which will accept submission.
On that topic, here are a few things you can prepare for now. Everything has links on the poetrypea.com website. Have a look at the drop down menu under submissions.
February is International haiku month. There’ll be lots of things going on. Here’s a couple to highlight.
My Haiku Pond: which is on Facebook? It’s run by Michael Smeer and is challenging you to write a new haiku every day for the duration of the month of February. It’s only open to members, but I recommend becoming a member because it’s a very useful discussion site.
NaHaiWriMo which stands for national haiku writing month is also challenging you to write a haiku every day for the month of February. Join in!
Bones journal, a journal specialising in contemporary haiku is taking submissions now for 2018 January 15 - February 15 for the March 15 th 2018 issue
The Golden Triangle Haiku competition which I find just superb. The final submission date is soon so get cracking, as we say in Britain. It’s a unique poetry competition that creates a magical experience by inviting thousands to enjoy a poetic stroll daily along some of Washington, D.C.’s most iconic streets. Submissions for the Golden Triangle’s 2018 Golden Haiku contest will be accepted until February 2.
Then there’s the 2018 International Women’s Haiku Festival on Inner Voices: All poets are welcome to submit a maximum of five (5) poems between February 1 and 28, 2018.  They will publish selected poems on a rolling basis throughout the month of March 2018 on their blog, Inner Voices.  Apparently, you are strongly encouraged to submit early.
    So lots to do....

  • Episode 9 A day in the life
Welcome to Episode 9 of the Haiku Pea podcast from www.poetrypea.com. We welcome submissions.
I’m delighted to say that our guest Haijin today is Tim Gardiner from the UK. It was hard to choose just which of his haiku to start with, but I chose one that was relevant to the season. I’ll tell you more about him shortly, and read you his haiku which I hope you will enjoy as much as I did.
If you go to our website at www.poetrypea.com, you will see that I have now started a page purely for recommended reading. There is an Amazon link that you can click on that will take you directly to a book, you don’t have to use that obviously, but if you do you won’t pay any more for the book than you would’ve done by going directly but I get paid a little bit of commission, which is nice.

  • Episode 8: A mixed bag but mostly snow...
Episode 8 the latest podcast from www.poetrypea.com
A mixed bag but mostly snow.... yuk
Welcome to episode 8 of the Haiku Pea, a podcast all about Haiku,. I’m Patricia, your host and I hope over time to share some of my daily haiku, submissions from you my wonderful listener and tips for writing that I glean along my journey.
This is the first podcast after the Christmas break. If you remember, I was looking forward to welcoming my family home again for the holidays and maybe getting them to write with me. Well, home they came, complete with flu, which I managed to catch and still have, so apologies for the voice if it breaks.
We spent a couple of lovely weeks together despite being ill, but my plan to galvanise them into writing didn’t come off. Maybe they will be home for Easter, without bugs, and we can try again.
I said to you last time that I had some great submissions and this week we are going to kick off with Devin Harrison. He submitted some really terrific work and will be featured throughout the year. He also sent me some thoughts on haiku that I think are worth exploring further, so I hope he and I will get a chance to talk further and I can share the results of these conversations with you. For this week though you will find out a little bit about him.
I want to change the format slightly this week and see what you think. You can read all this week’s daily haiku, a mixed bag but mostly about one of my least favourite things.... snow. and also Devin’s guest haiku on the poetrypea website, so what I thought I would do is share the evolution or otherwise of some of my haiku with you, As well as Devin’s haiku and some information about him, and recommendations from Devin and I for reading.

  • Episode 7 Home from the holidays
Episode 7 of the Haiku Pea podcast, all about Haiku, from www.poetrypea.com. I’m Patricia and I hope over time to share my daily haiku, submissions from you my wonderful listener and tips for writing that I glean along my journey.
RECOMMENDED READING: Haiku in English- the first hundred years and it’s edited by Jim Kacian, Philip Rowland and Allan Burns and it really was a great find. It has haiku by Ezra Pound, e.e. cummings, Alan Ginsberg and my particular favourite Seamus Heaney to name but a few. It’s a really great read. I’ll put the details in the show notes so you can check it out.
