The children of Israel did not appreciate the leader they had in the person of Moses. In spite of their lack of respect for him, Moses had a great love and a burden for his people, and proved it by his prayers for them.

The word, must, is often found in the Gospels in relation with the Saviour's public ministry. One of those musts, related to the sufferings of the Saviour.

After Israel's idolatry, Moses challenged the people as to what side they were on. That had to make a decision if they were on the Lord's side or not. That is a decision that all must make at some time or other.

It is interesting to note the number of times we find the word, must, in relation to the Saviour's public ministry. The word teaches us that the Lord Jesus was determined to do the work that He come from heaven to earth to do.

When the Children of Israel made and worshipped a golden calf, the God of heaven was filled with holy indignation. When Moses saw what the people had done, he also was filled with holy indignation. This teaches us, that what provokes the anger of God should be what angers us also.

After the brutal murder of John the Baptist, his disciples took the mutilated body of their leader and buried it. But they had another burden that they could not relieve themselves of, the burden that was on their hearts, so they went and told Jesus.

Moses truly was a man of God, and men of God are men of prayer and that's what Moses was. He was a man who saw the children of Israel delivered from the wrath of God through his intercession on their behalf.

John the Baptist was a most Christ like man, and being like his Master he was faithful and bold when he went forth to preach the word. His faithfulness and boldness, led to his arrest and imprisonment.

Moses was a man of God, therefore he was a man of prayer. He was very intimate with his God, and that intimacy can only be developed through prayer.

John the Baptist was faithful and fearless in his proclaimation of the Word every opportunity that was presented to him he sought to preach Christ, and denounce sin. As a result of his boldness for his Lord he was arrested and imprisoned, as many other faithful servants of the Lord have been.
