Today we’re looking at portfolio construction with Paul Ma, VP, Lead Portfolio Strategist, with Fidelity Investments in Boston. Paul shares his perspectives that may helpful for both financial advisors and investors. Paul believes we have to learn to live with inflation, and that it will be with us longer, and higher. He explains the benefits of inflation-hedges such as energy and commodities on today’s show. Also, Paul believes we’re still in mid-cycle, and with host Pamela Ritchie, Paul looks at the traditional 60/40 portfolio and shares his thoughts on adapting that in the current environment. Additionally, Paul shares how advisors could arrange a portfolio for the habits of younger investors, and looks at wealth-transfer and the habits of Baby Boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y. This includes thoughts on crypto and bitcoin, which Paul compares to early boom or bust days of tech – noting that having a small allocation to bitcoin in a portfolio may be beneficial, but having too much could increase volatility.
