The U.S. was booming when William McKinley  took office, and that opened the door to expansion, global expansion!  Cuba, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam – they all became part of the U.S. in one form or another, a move that turned us into a true global power.  He was easily reelected for a 2nd term, but it was cut tragically short by an assassin’s bullet after just 6 months.  McKinley may not be the most popular occupant of The White House, but maybe he should be, for what he did and what more he could have done!
