Former NASCAR driver, Michael Waltrip, opens a brewery with a few friends after brainstorming the idea while drinking wine in Napa. Waltrip won the famous Daytona 500 race twice, leading to the "Two-Time" beer brand out of the Michael Waltrip Brewing Company. 

Bristol Motor Speedway is the home to an infamous Michael Waltrip crash. When people tell Michael that day must have been awful, he replies, "No. It was a great day because I walked away alive!" Opening a brewery in Bristol, VA seems like a slight nod to the track that almost took his life that he is alive to follow yet another dream! 

Michael may have driven fast for a living, but Waltrip Brewing wants you to sit back and enjoy their beer... whether watching a race, playing golf, listening to country music, or just hanging out at home!

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery fits its name as Charlotte's oldest brewery. (Charlotte is located in Mecklenburg County, for all you geography illiterate.)

OMB also specializes in brewing classic German beers. They were inspired by local German breweries that have one beer on tap. You can literally walk into one of those and just order a beer, like they do in the movies. There's also a bit of a rivalry between towns on local beer, depending on what town you're in.

Named after Micah’s favorite named farm equipment, Gravity Box really dives deep into the agricultural motif. There’s a literal gravity box on the back of their bar. Their tap handles are antique shovel handles, hammers, and assorted tools. 

After moving back to Mauston from the beer Mecca of Milwaukee, Micah started homebrewing to fill his void of local quality beer. The closest brewery at the time was half an hour away.

Micah received validation from friends and family that his beer was good. So why not follow that passion to open a brewery for the people?! With no expectations on how successful they’d be, Micah was proud of his beer and what he and his wife, April, created at the brewery!

Lucky for us (and for them), not even trying to open during a global pandemic could hinder Gravity Box Brewing!

Lakefront Brewery has been around longer than Cameron or Jonathan have even been alive, opening their doors in 1987. Russ talks about their humble beginnings and their excitement when they sold their first barrel to the neighborhood tavern.

When a high schooler starts homebrewing because he’s fascinated by the process, he’s destined to open his own brewery some day! But to be named one of the fastest growing breweries in the United States in 2018 was because of hard work and great beer.

Opening a craft brewery in a Northeastern Wisconsin small town of just over 1,000 people who prefered Blatz to IPAs, Nate was a true advocate for craft beer.

Although spoiler alert, we drank a Busch Light during the episode because sometimes a macro lager just hits the spot.

Nate and his wife, Kayla, spent a few months in Germany during college where they grew to appreciate traditional German beers. These are still a big focus of Pigeon River Brewing.

This was the inspiration for Matt when he was opening his own brewery. He wanted to commemorate an influential month long trip to the back country in the Pacific Northwest. 

Thankfully, though, Matt found his way out of the back country and onto a brewery floor. He worked a variety of positions in a variety of breweries, from Colorado to Wisconsin and a few in between.
