Trauma Informed Decisions Series Pt. 3  In this episode we interview Personal Empowerment Champion Shawna Pelton and host of The Quantum Shift podcast.  She offers some sound advice regarding how to help support our youth during crisis.  She lets us know we can respond to crisis in a healthy manner and that this is only temporary.  During our discussion we walk through the hierarchy of needs: physiological, safety, loving and belonging, esteem and self-actualization.  If you know how to regulate your emotions, you can regulate and reduce stress hormones.  She encourages us that there is a scale of power that we can walk in courage, pride, love, acceptance, peace etc.. instead of the lower scale of power.  Most of all, she tells us that joy and laughter are very good for the soul and lets us know we should take the time to have new inspired actions. 

Here’s a few tips:

·       Structure and discipline yourself

·       Take care of yourself

·       Control the narrative for children

·       Reach out to your social circle for support

·       Honor your feelings

6 TIPS for Helping Youth Deal with Stress 

Stress in youth is real.  It can cause many issues.  Often young people suffer in silence so it’s imperative that as adults we are proactive to get in front of situations.  In this episode we provide you with tips and pointers on how to mitigate the stress and anxiety that our young people may be encountering.  Most people don’t like change and young people are no different, many of them encounter stress when having to change or adapt.  Try these strategies to help you and your child through this time of change.  

Six KISS (keep it simply simple) TIPS for adults to help youth:

1.     Be careful with the information your child digests. 

2.     Be cognizant with your body language.  Your own anxiety and stress will show.

3.     Hard schedule family time.  Spend time having fun. Enjoy each day!

4.     Encourage creative activities and experiences. 

5.     Take care mentally, socially and physically. 

6.     Keep your daily routines in tact as much as possible.

Willed Wednesday: 3 Tips From a Kid (3/4/20) 

On today’s episode, we share three tips from a young boy, Caden Harris.  He is the author of a book for children entitled, Caden’s Rich Kid Guide, Tips to Earn 10K Under 10 Years Old. While this book teaches valuable financial lessons, as a coach and consultant, I gleaned some things that adults can take away.  In his conclusion, Caden shares several advice tips.  There are three that I extrapolated from it that we can use as educators.  Make sure you place these in your toolbox: 

1.    If you are not failing enough, your challenges are too easy for you.

2.    A best practice suggestion is to step away from the challenge and give it some space for a few hours or a day. Then return to take it on.

3.    Always add value to others and never be the person that takes from other people but don’t give anything back.
