  • Episode 3882: Did narcissism allow GOP to lure Crockett into Senate run? | Stench of Local Gov’t stories – Pratt on Texas 12/12/2025

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: New polling shows Jasmine ‘Crocked’ Crockett leading Talarico in the Democrat Primary for the U.S. Senate nomination. (By they way, both are equally whiny but in different ways.)  But was it Crocked’s extreme narcissism that allowed Republican operatives to essentially lure her into the race? We know those polls played a big role because Crocked said so.

By the way, ol’ devil head Carville says Rep Crockett’s rhetoric is ‘more about herself’ than voters .

Oil and gas drilling rig count. A small bump up this week.

Battleship Texas’ restoration is getting closer to being finished. I’m ready to go and board her at Galveston Pier 15 in the next year or so. I’ve been following updates on Youtube, you can too at this link: https://www.youtube.com/@BattleshipTexas

    Stench of Local Government stories:

    • City of Houston tries to avoid liability by claiming a car crash is medical claim, court says no way.
    • City of Austin to spend money on “gender-inclusive” restrooms to blunt state law. What hypocrisy! Aren’t these the same people quoted often in the press about how silly it is for Republicans to be focused on bathrooms? Yet, who immediately starts spending money to build new bathrooms to appease a handful of sex-confused people?

    • Episode 3881: Tussle over EPIC City lawsuit | A&M’s never cared much for WT | Texas adds more jobs – Pratt on Texas 12/11/2025

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: I held off on this story all week because it was confusing. The press release from the State Securities Board came across to me as a head-scratcher that looked a bit like an insider political hit on Paxton. Now I think that is the case even more as I wasn’t the only one confused by the Board’s odd comments and ruling over the Muslim “EPIC City” development. This very good story from the Dallas Morning News shows I wasn’t the only one wondering about this: AG Ken Paxton, state agency clash over ‘EPIC City’ development lawsuit.

Texas jobs reports show continued adding of jobs (21,700) in the Lone Star State with the unemployment rate remaining steady at 4.1 percent.

More evidence that the Texas A&M System doesn’t care much for West Texas (WT) or the NW region of the state: West Texas A&M University, Texas A&M System to end Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. The money to fix the state’s oldest state museum is almost a rounding error in the A&M system budget.

    • Episode 3875: Abbott & Patrick pitching good property tax reform ideas | Local sale tax numbers – Pratt on Texas 12/10/2025

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: It’s not disunity to have different approaches to something like property tax reform – it is healthy to attack the problems from all angles. Governor Abbott’s ideas and Lt. Gov. Patrick’s ideas are both good. Patrick’s is more political achievable an Abbott’s more desirable overall. Too bad Abbott wasn’t hot phasing out school property taxes several years ago. It was Don Huffines who pushed such and Abbott didn’t.

      • Episode 3874: TX19 drama continues, lawsuit filed; Jason Corley gives update | Who filed to run statewide – Pratt on Texas 12/9/2025

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Drama continues in the TX19 GOP race for Congress with the Bowtie Bully, RINO County Judge Curtis Parrish, having infuriated most people, even some of his supporters, by unilaterally, without a court finding of fact, removing Precinct 2 County Commissioner Jason Corley from office solely based upon Bowtie’s opinion of the resign-to-run statute. Corley, now a candidate for Congress in TX19, appears on the show to give us an update on his lawsuit, filed last night, and discuss the matter generally.

Here is a good write-up: Corley’s future on Commissioner’s Court waits for judge to be assigned; other commissioners stunned he was replaced.

For those who have never understood why many of us say Curtis Parrish has no business in a position of responsibility, this gives a glimpse into his super arrogance and viciousness that permeates about everything he does but is hard for outsiders to perceive.

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Drama in the TX19 GOP race for Congress as Lubbock County’s Curtis ‘Bowtie’ Parrish goes after Commissioner Jason Corley in a nasty, arrogant, and very questionable move.

        • Jason Corley removed from Lubbock County Commissioner’s Court after announcing bid for congress
        • Corley says he’ll fight back after Parrish replaces him on Court, saying Corley’s Congress bid triggered resignation
        • Will Parrish now decide Matt Smith can’t run because he’s not “fat”?!

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas new Congressional maps get okay for use in 2026 by the U.S. Supreme Court. The underlying issues will still be moving in the court system but a separate opinion by Alito and joined by Thomas and Gorsuch, was fairly specific on why the trial court majority of the panel of judges was wrong under both the Alexander and Purcell principles. The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: What is Governor Abbott trying to hide, if anything, related to his last moment veto of the state ban on get-high hemp THC? The Feds have now closed the very loopholes that allowed a new multi-billion get-high drug industry that was never intended to be part of hemp production but Abbott, at the last moment vetoed Texas’ bill doing the same. Abbott clearly doesn’t want to make it easy to know who he was protecting as he’s put a cost estimate of $25,000 on providing a simple list of all of those who petitioned his office for the veto.

          • Episode 3870: Trump pardons Texas Dem whose seat we need to win | 5th Circuit favorable to Tx election integrity law – Pratt on Texas 12/3/2025

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar of Laredo pardoned by President Trump. Cuellar and his wife were under indictment for what seemed to be political retribution from the Biden Administration but now, with no trial we’ll never fully know. A strong candidate for the GOP just announced his campaign for TX28 yesterday so will this hurt or help? One thing to remember is that Cuellar, who almost lost last time to an underfunded Republican, has a Democratic Party Primary opponent this time who said of the pardon: “Innocent people do not take pardons.”

TX19: Conservative leader and Lubbock County Commissioner Jason Corley officially announced a run for Congress yesterday. Corley is not a banquets and balls self-promoting politician. He’s an in-the-trenches worker for conservative government – sort of a working man’s rep.

In oral argument, it appears the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will likely back Texas’ election integrity law clamping down on electioneering related to mail-in ballots.

Texas DPS and border patrol continue to interdict illegal aliens making it across the border with several big busts in recent days.

The news of Texas covered today includes:

Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas Republicans to lose another incumbent in Congress to retirement but this one has a twist of a twin thrown in. Plus other political and campaign news such as RINO state Rep. VanDeaver deciding a re-election bid to the House isn’t something he wants to go through.

Democrats throw in the towel on their legal challenge to Tarrant County’s redistricting. Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare continues to impress as a true pro-taxpayer conservative leader.
