LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 8, 2022 | Tuesday of the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Jesus said, 'When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'" - Luke 17:7-10
We are servants of God. As this is so, we should not expect praise for living as Christians because, in so living, we are simply doing our duty. Let us pray that we may have hearts that seek only the Master's approval and not the fleeting kind from our fellow brethren.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 7, 2022 | Monday of the Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, 'I am sorry,' you should forgive him." - Luke 17:1-6
Complete forgiveness can be very difficult at times. This is especially the case when the same person sins against you “seven times in one day” as Jesus says.
But Jesus’ words should be taken to heart. He was not being idealistic; rather, He was being very realistic. Forgiveness must be given, over and over and over again. We cannot hesitate in offering it, especially to those who sincerely repent. (Catholic Daily Reflections)

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 6, 2022 | Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C)
"Jesus Christ is the firstborn of the dead; to him be glory and power, forever and ever." - Rev 1:5a, 6b
God wants each one of us to [attain] heaven, by living our life on earth, and trusting in His word that heaven will be our eternal home if we do our part here below. If we trust in Him, then he will be at our side to strengthen and to protect us until we join him in paradise.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 5, 2022 | Saturday Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary
On Saturdays in Ordinary Time when there is no obligatory memorial, an optional memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary is allowed.
"Today's memorial is a remembrance of the maternal example and discipleship of the Blessed Virgin Mary who, strengthened by faith and hope, on that 'great Saturday' on which Our Lord lay in the tomb, was the only one of the disciples to hold vigil in expectation of the Lord’s resurrection. It is a prelude and introduction to the celebration of Sunday, the weekly memorial of the Resurrection of Christ. It is a sign that the Virgin Mary is continuously present and operative in the life of the Church." - Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy (2001), §188

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 4, 2022 | Memorial of St. Charles Borromeo, Bishop
"I will look after my sheep, says the Lord, and I will appoint a shepherd to pasture them, and I, the Lord, will be their God." - Ez 34:11, 23-24
Today is the Memorial of St. Charles Borromeo (1538-1584), bishop. Charles was a member of a noble family and a nephew of Pope Pius IV. He was made a Cardinal at the age of 23 and assisted the Pope in administering the affairs of the Holy See and in governing the Church. Soon thereafter, he was made Archbishop of Milan. His endeavors on behalf of the 19th Ecumenical Council of Trent (1545-1564) were especially meritorious and fruitful. He helped to direct and guide it and bring it to a successful conclusion. He then proceeded to enforce its decrees in the Archdiocese of Milan and thoroughly reformed Catholic life in his See. During a plague he walked barefooted in the public streets, carrying a cross, with a rope around his neck, offering himself as a victim to God for the transgressions of his people.
St. Charles Borromeo, pray for us!

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 3, 2022 | Optional Memorial of St. Martin de Porres, Religious
"Amen, I say to you: That you who have left all and followed me, I will receive a hundredfold and possess eternal life." - Mt 19:27-29
Today the Church celebrates the Optional Memorial of St. Martin de Porres, religious (1579-1639), who lived a life of fasting, prayer and penance as a Dominican lay brother. He was born in Peru of a Spanish knight and a Negro woman from Panama. Martin inherited the features and dark complexion of his mother, and for that reason his noble father eventually turned the boy out of his house. After a turn as a surgeon's apprentice, the young man joined the Dominicans as a lay brother and was put in charge of the infirmary of a friary in Lima. Soon he was caring for the sick of the city and the slaves brought to Peru from Africa —not to mention the animals with which he is often pictured. Martin had the gift of miracles; and although he had no formal training, he was often consulted on theological questions by great churchmen of his day. St. Rose of Lima and St. Juan Macias were among his close friends. He is unofficially called the patron of social justice.

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 2, 2022 | The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls' Day)
"Blessed are those who have died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them." - Rev 14:13
Today is the Commemoration of the All the Faithful Departed (All Souls' Day). The Church, after celebrating the feast of All Saints, today prays for all who, in the purifying suffering of Purgatory, await the day they will join in heavenly glory. The celebration of the Mass, which re-presents the Sacrifice of Christ on Calvary, has always been the principal means by which the Church fulfills the great responsibility of charity toward the dead. Death cannot break the bonds of the Body of Christ. —Daily Roman Missal
"All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.
"The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned" (CCC 1030-1031).

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - November 1, 2022 | Solemnity of All Saints
"Let us all rejoice in the Lord, as we celebrate the feast day in honor of all the Saints, at whose festival the Angels rejoice and praise the Son of God." - Entrance Antiphon
Today is the Solemnity of All Saints. The Church celebrates all the saints: canonized or beatified, and the multitude of those who are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision that are only known to God. During the early centuries the Saints venerated by the Church were all martyrs. Later the pope set November 1 as the day for commemorating all the Saints. We all have this "universal call to holiness." What must we to do in order to join the company of the saints in heaven? We "must follow in His footsteps and conform [our]selves to His image seeking the will of the Father in all things. [We] must devote [our]selves with all [our] being to the glory of God and the service of [our] neighbor. In this way, the holiness of the People of God will grow into an abundant harvest of good, as is admirably shown by the life of so many saints in Church history" (Lumen Gentium, 40).
"This perfect life with the Most Holy Trinity—this communion of life and love with the Trinity, with the Virgin Mary, the angels and all the blessed—is called "heaven." Heaven is the ultimate end and fulfillment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness" (CCC 1024).

LISTEN | Morning Prayer - October 31, 2022 Monday in the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time
"Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves.." - Phil. 2:3
How do you look out for the interests of others?
Jesus constantly reminds us not to do something for the sake of a reward or a returned favor in this life but to be charitable to those who cannot give anything back. This way our reward will be all the greater for it will be given in the next life.
