On the question of self-denial of one’s own Christian rights and liberties, the apostle Paul set a great example for the rest of us. Do what is best for the gospel! Trust Jesus with everything else.

Israel’s first king was not God’s choice for a king; it was a pretender, a usurper. Beware that you do not usurp what is God’s! He is the rightful God and King and He will not share His throne.

When John saw Jesus incarnate for the Revelation, he saw Jesus as the glorious Man and the glorious God. He saw Jesus, as Jesus will return for His Second Advent. Our Lord has come once and He is coming again!

Just because we CAN do something doesn’t mean we SHOULD do it. What is it that helps our brothers and sisters in Christ? Our love for God is expressed in our love for others as we lay aside certain liberties for the sake of Christ.

For all that Gideon did right, following God in faith, he sadly didn’t finish well. We want to finish well with Christ!

Paul’s message to the Corinthian singles (as well as to everyone else): keep Jesus first place!

Gideon faced down the massive Midianite army with only 300 men. It seemed impossible! But what things are impossible with men are possible with God. In the midst of Gideon’s terrible human weakness and inability, God would show His own ability and His infinite strength.

Our circumstances might be difficult, but that doesn’t mean that our circumstances should immediately change. Trust God’s providence, that where He has placed you, He wants to use you.

As Gideon is called by God to ministry and leadership, God gives him the opportunity to grow his tiny faith. For whatever God calls us, God equips us. All we need to do is walk by faith in the opportunities God gives us.

Whatever the reason, divorce always hurts. God calls us to something better: He calls us to stay married by the grace of Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.
