In this podcast episode we discuss preparing for the fourth trimester, with postpartum doula Naomi from Cocoon By Naomi.
Usually pregnancy is broken up into three trimesters. But sometimes the first 12-16 weeks after birth are referred to as the fourth trimester.
Often while pregnant the focus can be on pregnancy itself, and preparing for birth. In this episode today Naomi postpartum doula shares ways in which we can help to prepare for this fourth trimester.
We discuss:
- Strategies to help get the rest you need during the fourth trimester.
- Ways family and friends can help support you during the fourth trimester.
- Mindset shifts to get the most out of motherhood.
Naomi really does give some practical advice today that we trust will help. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

So from all the guest speakers we’ve had on board, I am going to share my 3 biggest ‘ah ha’ moments.
My first key take-away relates to vaginal birth, and also caesarean births.
Second key take-away is for c-section mamas, whether it is emergency or elective.

Welcome back to the Pelvic Floor Friday session!
Today, we are focussing on a quality pelvic floor lift. I am going to talk you through a few ways of imagining your pelvic floor, we are going to do a lovely lift together, and then focus on that full relaxation and release.
So, although I am talking you through this pelvic floor set, if you’ve been listening to me for awhile you will know I always say how everyone is on their own journey,
Everyone is different.
Focus on quality over quantity.
And if you can’t hold for as long as I say, please don’t.
Any discomfort or questions please do stop and consult your healthcare provider.
Right, let’s dive in.
Find a position where you can relax.
1. Focus on draw string bag. Close off the bag, then lift it up off the ground.
2. Clock face. Bring the 4 points on the clock together in the middle.
3. Relaxation: focus on full release. Imagine a bud is blooming. Dropping and flopping. Avoiding straining down, instead release and let all the muscle tension drop away.

This birth story is with Liz who shares an honest recount of her emergency c-section due to a last minute breech presentation.
Liz shares her journey to becoming pregnant, including how she chose to freeze her eggs. Liz talks us through her c-section step by step, which she reports was quite a positive experience.
Liz also openly shares her challenges around breastfeeding. And Liz, like many of us, expected to fully breastfeed, and wasn’t prepared for the challenges she faced.
And stick around because liz provides some lovely advice to pregnant and new mothers who might be listening today.

So, today, we are focussing on a ‘standard’, or ‘traditional’ set of pelvic floor exercises.
These are perhaps what you’d consider gold standard.
But if you’ve been listening to me for awhile you will know I always say how everyone is on their own journey,
Everyone is different.
Focus on Quality over quantity.
And If you can’t hold for as long as I say, please don’t.
Any discomfort or questions please do stop and consult your healthcare provider.
And, don’t forget these exercises don’t substitute for a pelvic floor assessment by your local pelvic floor physio, they are designed to help with motivation, and support, to just help you to get them done more consistently.
Enjoy!
