  • Birth Story: Spilling the Milk with Caitlin

    Send us Fan Mail

Today, we have a remarkable birth story from one of our amazing mums inside the FitNest Mama membership. Caitlin is the mother of a little boy Hunter, a business owner ‘To Living the Abundant Way’, and has her own podcast ‘Belly and Beyond’.

Caitlin shares her incredible birth story. Hunter was born with a birth defect, a cleft lip and palate. She talks candidly about her feelings when the doctors took him away after birth, his time in NICU, and her worries surrounding how other people would treat him. He has had two plastic surgeries before he was even 1 year old. There will be more surgeries, speech therapy, a potential palate break, and braces in the future and Caitlin shares her feelings for the path ahead.

Caitlin openly describes her struggles with breastfeeding, calling in support, needing a chiropractor, empowering yourself through knowledge, and how FitNest Mama has helped her in her postnatal journey.

I’m so grateful to have Caitlin on the show today and could have listened to her for hours!

  • 30 Day Pelvic Floor Challenge

    Send us Fan Mail

It’s so easy to forget our pelvic floor muscles, they’re out of sight and out of mind. Often, we don’t start placing an emphasis on them until we begin to experience problems with our pelvic health.

In this episode, I’m chatting about an upcoming 30 day pelvic floor challenge that I would love for you to join me in. Inside FitNest Mama starting the 1st week of March for the whole month, a daily email will be sent out with daily pelvic floor exercises. They’ll get harder as the month progresses to challenge you and will include a variety of different positions.

I’ll run you through a set of exercises in the episode to show you what you can expect. The challenge will help safeguard you against future pelvic floor issues, such as urine leaking, faeces leaking, flatulence, and pelvic organ prolapse.

  • Maternal assisted caesareans

    Send us Fan Mail

A caesarean has always been firmly structured as a surgical medical procedure with the mother as a patient. This often leads to mums feeling powerless without an active role in the delivery of their baby. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Maternal (or partner) assisted caesareans are designed to enable the mum to play an active role and feel empowered in their birth experience.

In this episode, I’m discussing maternal assisted caesareans with Dr Natalie Elphinstone, an obstetrician working in Melbourne. She has delivered over 1500 babies and is passionate about advocating for every birth to be the best possible experience it can be.

We’re discussing exactly what a maternal assisted caesarean section entails, when and why a woman would choose this option, the process of the procedure, and the potential benefits and risks to both mother and baby.

Natalie is a wealth of information and I’m very grateful to have her on the show today to share her expertise with you.

  • Pain Relief Options for Birth

    Send us Fan Mail

Pain relief is an independent and individual choice for all pregnant women. Every woman will have an idea or plan on what they want to use when going into their birth experience. Whether you’re aiming for a completely non-medical pain relief birth or are certain you want an epidural, there is a spectrum of pain relief options in between that you may not have known about.

In today’s episode, we’re discussing common pain relief options for birth with Dr Gareth Symons. Gareth has been a consultant anaesthetist since 2013 and has an anaesthetist practice in both public and private health systems. He is a wealth of information and I’m so grateful to have him in to share his expertise with you.

Gareth talks about a variety of pain relief options including gas, intermuscular injections, and epidurals. There are benefits and risks to all medications and Gareth runs us through each of these thoroughly. He also discusses side effects for both mum and bub, the misconceptions around epidurals, and the impact of Covid on pregnant women giving birth.

This episode will help you learn more about your options and empower you to feel confident in your choice.

    Enjoy.

  • 3 Ways to Prepare your Pelvic floor for Birth & Beyond

    Send us Fan Mail

I made the same mistake that many women make of ignoring my pelvic floor in my first pregnancy. I definitely learned my lesson. Since having my first baby, I went on to study the pelvic floor at university and through post graduate training as a physiotherapist. I want to make sure that you don't make this mistake by helping you prepare your pelvic floor for birth and the months following.

In today’s solo episode, I’m talking about 3 methods you can use to help prepare your pelvic floor muscles for birth and recovery. I’ll first explain exactly what your pelvic floor is and the purpose of these very important muscles. Then I’ll walk you through these 3 really effective techniques to help your pelvic floor get ready for birth and post partum.

These are great tools you can add to your toolkit so you can call upon them if and when you need them. Inside FitNest Mama I dive into the research surrounding the pelvic floor in depth to help you to reduce your risk of 3rd and 4th degree perineal tears, episiotomy, and post partum perineal pain.
