In today's show, we will highlight the individual, organizational, and community lessons learned from the many disaster events the Canadian Province of Alberta has experienced over the past several years. We’ll talk with Alberta Health Services (AHS) Business Continuity Officer, Ken Hoffer. We’ll learn about the changing way in which AHS addresses their response processes by developing what’s called Psychosocial Response Teams (PRT) which are designed to provide a coordinated immediate psychosocial response to meet the needs of impacted individuals and responders in the event of a disaster, emergency, or other traumatic event. The model AHS uses is based on the World Health Organization (WHO) framework and is supported by research from the WHO, War Trauma Foundation, and World Vision International. Ken will talk about some real-life situations he and his colleagues have addressed, including some that were occurring while he was chatting with us
