In this episode of the Digital Insurance Podcast, Alexander Tackenberg discusses the upcoming Insurance Innovators summit in Munich, with Cate Kay, Director at Insurance Innovators.

Cate points out how different the market is this year. With critical issues like the climate change and inflation affecting every one of us, the aim of insurtech has changed towards profitability.

She says that it is encouraging to see how much innovation moves forward, but we shouldn’t loose our critical look, especially on inventions connected to ai. While it is true that ai can complement traditional insurance, it can also make big impossible promises and distract from actual transformative developments like the rise of data augmentation.

Only time will tell the real quality that the ai-hype can bring to the table.

Alex and Cate also discuss how big tech players can shake up the insurance industry. For quite some time, a worry has been that big tech will take over the market, but due to the heavy regulations within the industry, Cate explains that this concern is not grounded.

The influence will rather be seen in data related questions. Huge computing powers and cloud space becomes more and more relevant for modernised companies.
