  • FTSE starts September on the back foot as miners weigh; Rightmove soars - Market Report
London's FTSE 100 opened just off the mark as mining companies weighed early on in the first trading day of September.
Rio Tinto, Antofagasta and Anglo American were among those under pressure as the market opened as suppressed iron ore and lower copper prices continued to weigh.
Rightmove soared in the meantime as news broke Australian-listed REA Group was considering a possible takeover offer for the property portal, sending shares up 25%.
Elsewhere, Vertu Motors was among those reporting on Monday, with shares falling as the car retailer reiterated that conditions across the market remained subdued.
Finally, Ashtead Technology slumped early on after its report showed a dip in adjusted half-year profit margins despite soaring revenue growth.

  • Stellar Resources confirms robust Heemskirk Tin Project with updated scoping study
Stellar Resources Ltd (ASX:SRZ, OTC:SLROF) executive chairman Simon Taylor joins Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss an updated scoping study for the 100%-owned Heemskirk Tin Project near Zeehan in Western Tasmania, which highlights strong economic potential and supports the initiation of a pre-feasibility study (PFS).
The study confirms the project’s potential to deliver solid financial returns over a 12-year mine life, with an average annual production rate of 350,000 tonnes, generating 22,818 tonnes of tin concentrate.
Key financial outcomes include a base case pre-tax NPV8% of A$122 million and pre-tax IRR of 33% at a tin price of US$28,000 per tonne, with potential to increase to A$190 million NPV8% and 46% IRR at a higher spot price of US$32,000 per tonne. The project benefits from a low all-in-sustaining-cost (AISC) of ~US$18,260 per tonne of recovered tin and requires a capital investment of approximately A$71 million.
The scoping study also emphasises the project's low environmental impact due to its underground mining approach and the use of 100% renewable power. Stellar Resources is now progressing a PFS which is expected to be completed by the second half of 2025.

  • Uneventful week for Bitcoin as Musk's Dogecoin saga wraps up in court - Crypto Roundup
Proactive's Billy Farrington takes Stephen Gunnion through recent movements in the cryptocurrency market, particularly focusing on Bitcoin. Farrington highlighted that Bitcoin experienced a volatile week, with prices dropping by 5% against the dollar, driven by ongoing recession fears in the U.S. and significant outflows from Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
He explained that these ETF outflows, which totalled approximately $300 million, added downward pressure on Bitcoin prices. However, there was a slight recovery towards the end of the week as on-exchange Bitcoin balances decreased, indicating that investors were moving their holdings into cold storage rather than trading them.
Farrington also touched on the ongoing relationship between Elon Musk and Dogecoin, including a recent court ruling that dismissed a class action lawsuit against Musk. The judge ruled that Musk’s tweets were aspirational and not grounds for market manipulation claims.

  • FTSE100 eyes new record; Nvidia continues slide; Govt mulls 4-day work week - Market Report
The FTSE enjoyed a bright start on Friday, gaining 31 points to reach 8,411. This took the index ever closer to its record high seen in May of 8,447 in intraday trading and an 8,445 close.
The move up came despite little company news and another tough night for Nvidia.
Traditional safe stocks such as utilities and property groups were going well in early trades, particularly Land Securities and power group SSE.
Nvidia shed almost US$200 billion of its value overnight after investors digested its results; this had a knock-on effect UK investor Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust, which was one of the FTSE 100’s few early losers.
Elsewhere, house prices climbed by 2.4% in the year to August and at their fastest pace since December 2022, according to figures from building society Nationwide.
A lot of business headlines also focused on Government plans to make a four-day work week a right for staff with no loss of pay. Businesses are said to be unhappy about the proposals that would see people work extra hours each day to make up the time.

  • BioHarvest Sciences Q2 Revenue Surpasses $6 Million; CEO Discusses Growth and New Product Success
BioHarvest Sciences CEO Ilan Sobel joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company’s impressive financial and operational results for the second quarter of 2024. For the first time, BioHarvest Sciences reported revenue surpassing the $6 million mark, reaching $6.03 million. This represents a 119% increase compared to the $2.8 million reported in the same quarter the previous year, and a 13% sequential growth from the first quarter of 2024.
Sobel highlighted that the company's gross margins improved to 52% in the second quarter, up from 40% in the same period the previous year. This improvement is attributed to ongoing margin optimization efforts. In the U.S., total subscribers to the VINIA® product line increased by 135% compared to the same quarter in the previous year. A major contributor to this growth was the VINIA business, which set a new record for monthly sales orders in May 2024, achieving $2 million in sales—a 101% increase compared to May 2023. The company anticipates that revenues in the third quarter of 2024 will be at least $6.5 million.
Additionally, Sobel shared exciting news about the company's VINIA® Superfood Coffee and Decaf Coffee. This "functional" coffee product line, which integrates BioHarvest's VINIA Red Grape Superfood into a premium coffee in Keurig-compatible pod format, has surpassed $1 million in cumulative sales since its launch in December 2023.
