Yanis Varoufakis is an international economist, academic, former politician and philosopher who served as the Minster of Finance for Greece as a member of the radical left party Syriza from January 2015 until he resigned in July.  Earlier this year, he founded the Democracy in Europe Movement – a pan European movement devoted to reform the EU’s institutions to become more democratic. His stance against the toxic loan and austerity demands being imposed upon Greece by the European banking institutions – frequently referred to as the Troika – earned him international respect as well condemnation. Bloomberg has called him a “brilliant economist.” Business Insider: “the most interesting man in the world.” Prof Varoufakis received degrees in mathematics from the Universities of Essex and Birmingham in the UK and later a PhD in economics at Essex. Throughout his life he has been a champion of radical social and economic causes. – including involvement in the African National Congress, the Palestinian cause and the solidarity movement in Chile.  He has taught at the Universities of Sydney in Australia, Athens, the University of Texas at Austin and other schools. He is the author of about ten books appearing in English.  Professor Robert Jensen is a professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.  His research has focused on many diverse progressive social issues including race relations, foreign policy, feminism, post modern masculinity, the media and others. He is a board member of the Third Coast Activist Resource Center and a national organization Culture Reframed.  He has authored many publications including his forthcoming “The End of Patriarchy: Radical Feminism for Men.”  Other recent books include “Plain Radical: Living, Loving and Learning to the Planet Gracefully”  and  “Arguing for Our Lives: A User’s Guide to Constructive Dialogue.” Robert is the co-producer of a documentary film on the life and philosophy of longtime radical activist Abe Osheroff. In the first part of the program Gary talks with Rocky Anderson about Post Election analysis from the Justice Party. Rocky Anderson was the 2012 presidential candidate for the national Justice Party, which he was instrumental in founding. Bradley (“Brad”) Birkenfeld is an American investment banker and whistleblower whose disclosures led to an investigation into massive fraud among he uber-rich by the world’s largest bank – with over $2 trillion in assets, the Swiss firm UBS and other banks. He is accredited with being one of the most important whistleblowers in American history. The uncovering of this financial secrecy, which has included corruption and even terrorist activities,  resulted in a $780 million fine and long overdue changes in banking laws, federal tax codes and international tax treaties. The US Treasury also recovered $15 billion in back taxes. In 2009 Brad himself was sentenced to 30 months in a federal prison for abetting and advising wealthy clients about tax invasion and creating offshore companies. Brad had a lucrative fast track career in Credit Suisse and Barclays Bank and eventually UBS and later Union Charter economic advisors.  Today he is committed to philanthropy in support of whistleblowers and other endeavors. Eva Bartlett is an independent Canadian justice activist, freelance journalist and a founding member of the Syria Solidarity Movement, which advocates for a sovereign Syria against foreign intervention.  Since 2008, Eva has been reporting from the war zones in Syria and Gaza.
