On today’s show I will share my interview with the Co-Founder and CEO of 412 Food Rescue.

Through the cooperation of numerous restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores along with a team of dedicated volunteers the 412 Food Rescue organization redirects fresh, healthy food from going to landfills to serving those who are food insecure.

The name derives from the area code for Pittsburgh Pennsylvania but as we’ll learn the organization has expanded its reach well beyond Pittsburgh and has even larger goals for the future.

 I’ve had the good fortune of literally in John Muir’s footsteps while on top of Mt. Shasta in California.   I had scaled the mountain solo and if you’ve ever been to the summit it is very narrow.  Given that Muir summited the mountain I figure he and I place our boots in pretty much the same spot on the mountain – as there werent’ many options!

On this weeks show I wanted to spend some talking about the healing and regenerative powers of being out in nature.  I was fortunate to have a father who loved the outdoors and my dad passed that on to me and I’ve subsequently passed it on to my daughter.

On today’s show I’m sharing my interview with Dan Melee the Public Relations Manager for the Penn State University Thon fund raiser.  This amazing program was introduced to me by my daughter who had friends at Penn State.

Started in the 1970’s this student led effort has generated an enoromous amount of money for research and support for children stricken with cancer.  The program culiminates in weekend dance marathon but actually involves year round efforts from Penn State students and alumni.  It’s a wonderful example of people being willing to roll up their sleeves and work hard for the benefit of people they don’t even know.  They are doing it because they believe in the cause and in doing good and paying it forward.
