The distance between us and something unpleasant often has an affect on the intensity. This could be a person or an event. Learning to let the unpleasant event, thing or person have a place but making sure that the place has the proper proximity, proportion and perspective is the key to learning to live with or manage those unavoidable events in everyone's lives.
