Purple Insider - a Minnesota Vikings and NFL podcast

Matthew Coller and Sam Ekstrom are joined by ESPN's Courtney Cronin to talk about the beginning of Vikings OTAs, which will be open to the media one day next week. What will we be looking for when reporters get a look at (presumably) the full roster. Will Danielle Hunter show up? Courtney thinks he will. Plus one UDFA who might be interesting in the receiver group and how we'll judge Kellen Mond's OTA practices.

Matthew Coller and Steven Ruiz start by wondering what exactly the Carolina Panthers are doing and why Vegas thinks the Vikings' matchup against the Panthers should be a pick 'em. They go on to talk about some of the worst QB situations in the league, including the New Orleans Saints, who seem to have no answers. Where do the Vikings stand in the QB conversation? What would a good season mean to Kirk Cousins's future and the future of the QB position for the Vikings?

The Minnesota Vikings managed the cap incredibly well this offseason but there are still plenty of questions to be answered. Will Danielle Hunter show up for OTAs or mandatory minicamp without a new contract? What could the Vikings do to keep him happy? Should they trade him if he plans on pulling a Le'Veon Bell? Plus how does Dalvin Cook's contract look one year later? What would happen if Jeff Gladney was suspended for the year for his domestic violence arrest? And what would happen to the Packers' cap situation if they trade Aaron Rodgers?

Matthew Coller and Sam Ekstrom discover that Westgate Sportsbook has lines for every Vikings game on the 2021 schedule. They are favored in 9 games, underdogs 7 times and a pick 'em once. Would a 9-7-1 record mean major changes? Matthew and Sam also go through all the games. Should Cleveland be favored in Minnesota? Are the Vikings getting too much respect in the Dallas game? Should the Vikings get more respect in Arizona?

Matthew Coller and Paul Hodowanic get together to kick some things around now that the offseason madness has calmed down. They talk about how many teams you would pick over the Vikings to win the Super Bowl in the next three years. Plus will there be quarterback madness next offseason? What were the craziest storylines of the offseason? And would you draft a kicker who could make it from 75 yards away?

Matthew Coller and CBS Sports draft analyst Chris Trapasso answer two questions from a listener that are interesting. 1) Whether Kellen Mond's arm should be considered as very good 2) What we should expect from Ezra Cleveland, the guard. Plus they talk about reasonable expectations for Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones and talk about the best bet for rookie of the year being Rashod Bateman.

Bobby Peters is a football coach and author who writes books on teams' offenses. This year he wrote a book breaking down the 2020 Green Bay Packers, so he got together with Matthew Coller to talk about what the Packers' offense might look like if Aaron Rodgers does not remain the Packers' quarterback. How much was the supporting cast and play design a factor? Plus why Kellen Mond adding mobility to the Vikings' offensive scheme could be interesting and why Kirk Cousins thrives in this style offense. And then we pull some of the most interesting comments from Vikings minicamp from Kellen Mond, Mike Zimmer and Christian Darrisaw.

Matthew Coller and Sam Ekstrom open the show with a discussion about the Vikings trading away 2018 first-round pick Mike Hughes for nothing and then Will Ragatz from Sports Illustrated joins for the Friday Roundtable to break down the 2021 Vikings schedule. Best road trips, pivitol games, whether the schedule is hard or not and an 0.5 over/under on whether we see Kellen Mond at any point.

Matthew Coller poses the question to PFF's Eric Eager: What if the Vikings traded Kirk Cousins now rather than letting the 2021 season play out and they turned things over to Kellen Mond for this year? It sounds crazy but Justin Jefferson's comments made it feel like the team is ready to move on, so why not pull off the band aid now? (It's just a thought experiment, Cousins fans, withhold your rage). Plus Eric shares his thoughts on the passing of Jerry Burns and why he was ahead of his time and Eric answers whether the Vikings have a mathematically tough schedule.
