Purple Insider - a Minnesota Vikings and NFL podcast

Matthew Coller is joined by his former teammate and current 1250 The Fan host Ramie Makhlouf to talk about whether the Chicago Bears made the right decision in trading up for Justin Fields. Ramie is still skeptical about Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy being in charge, even if he believes Fields is a good prospect. Plus what does the future hold for Aaron Rodgers? Does Ramie expect him to play for the Packers this year? Why did Green Bay handle things this way instead of just trading Rodgers?

Matthew Coller and Paul Hodowanic go through all of the Day 3 draft picks for the Vikings and talk about whether the picks could have high upside for the Vikings or not and where they fit on the roster. Why did the Vikings take a running back in the fourth round? The internet seems to love the receiver they selected in the fifth, was it right to stick with high-upside pass rushers when many have failed recently? Plus... tight end/punter???

Matthew Coller and Paul Hodowanic have a discussion about what it means for the Vikings to have picked Kellen Mond with the 66th overall pick. It appears the Vikings are saying that the pressure is on Kirk Cousins to perform in 2021 and take them deep into the playoffs. What do we think of Mond as a prospect? Should the Vikings have just taken Mac Jones if they wanted a future QB? Also why the Vikings crushed the Wyatt Davis draft pick and what they still have to accomplish.

Matthew Coller and Sam Ekstrom debate the Vikings' decision to trade down in the draft when the New England Patriots elected to select Mac Jones. Should the Vikings have picked Jones even if we didn't think we was as good of a prospect as Fields or the other three quarterbacks picked? Plus why the Vikings deserve high grades for getting Christian Darrisaw and extra draft picks.

Added on to our reactions from the night overall are some of the clips from the WCCO Radio live stream, which was on WCCO's Twitter and Facebook pages during the entire first round of the draft. Listen to Matthew and Cory Hepola react to Trey Lance being picked and Matthew and Courtney Cronin debate the Mac Jones pick from New England and catch the live reaction to the Darrisaw selection.

Live from BIRDI Golf in Woodbury, Matthew Coller and Sam Ekstrom talk about Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman's final press conference before the draft. He talked extensively about trade options, what the second round means to him and Spielman was very short on answers pertaining to the quarterback. Also would you trade up to pick Trey Lance if the opportunity arose? And what do we want from Day 3?

Matthew Coller is joined by two of Vikings.com's finest. Vikings writer Eric Smith and host Gabe Henderson simulate the draft. What situation would be right for the Vikings to trade down? If Rashawn Slater and Jaylen Waddle were both on the board, which one would the Vikings take? Which players in the third round could be of interest?

OK folks, draft week is officially here. Matthew Coller and CBS Sports draft analyst Chris Trapasso get together to give their final predictions on what will happen Thursday night in the NFL Draft. Chris explains that he's sure the Minnesota Vikings will draft someone in the trenches with their first pick. Are we certain Rashod Bateman of Minnesota will be a top pick? Do we think one of the quarterbacks will fall? Will it be Justin Fields, Mac Jones, Zach Wilson or Trey Lance? And Matthew predicts madness.

Matthew Coller is joined by PFF's data scientist Eric Eager to talk about why it wouldn't have been wise for the Vikings to sell out for Orlando Brown. They also talk about whether Rick Spielman's strategy of trading down is smart and why the Vikings would be wise to pick DeVonta Smith if he's available at No. 14. Eric talks about best bets and some past draft picks that he got excited about in Minnesota sports (yes, Steph Curry comes up).
