  • 99. Maximizing Donor Engagement by Challenging Assumptions

In this episode, I’m exploring the impact of negative thoughts and assumptions on nonprofit marketing, fundraising, and how you view the world around you, and your possibility for success. Drawing from Jay Shetty's insights at a recent conference, he shared that 80% (of our 60,000) daily thoughts are negative and want to discuss how this mindset can hinder your professional and personal growth!

I’m sharing practical strategies, including one of my favorite exercises that you can do in 10 minutes, to identify and challenge these assumptions, improve donor engagement, and foster a positive and productive environment. This episode offers valuable tools for nonprofit leaders, marketers, and fundraisers to enhance their mental framework and achieve better outcomes.

    Topics:

    • How our daily thoughts inform the enjoyment and satisfaction of our lives and how to have more control over your more negative thoughts.
    • Recognizing that our brain often assumes worst case scenario when we are interacting with people and avoiding the underdog mindset
    • The most important thing to remember when someone responds with “Let me get back to you.” after a donor ask
    • Positive “Iffermations” you can recite to yourself to overcome the resistance of rejection, frequency, and assumptions

  • 98: Influential Storytelling: Revolutionize Your Communication with Mike Ganino

You’re going to love this episode today with Mike Ganino, a public speaking, storytelling, and performance coaching methodology. He is so good at his craft and that shines through throughout the whole episode. There were a couple moments where I was blown away at his ability to take a story and run with it as he related it to the practice of public speaking and/or making the ask. As you listen through this episode, you’ll hear tips on becoming a more effective and confident communicator (even if you’re an introvert). These are skills that you can take with you into the board room for your next directors meeting or as you sit down to ask for the bigger donation from a long-time donor. I can’t wait to hear how you put this into practice!

    Topics:

    • One of the biggest misconceptions of public speaking and why it’s not always the best to be the loudest in the room
    • Why introverts actually make great public speakers and the thing that more stories need to be brilliant
    • How to reconnect with your inner self and find your spark again after being told you’re “too much”
    • Reminders to yourself so that you can become a more effective communicator and the power of rehearsal
    • Mike’s advice for those people who feel awkward and uncomfortable with public speaking

  • 97: Channeling Unwavering Belief to Accomplish Your Goal

Recently my neighbor lost their escape artist cat, and you’re probably already wondering what this has to do with your nonprofit. Well, right after their cat went missing, they stepped into this unwavering belief that they’d find him (or her?), and it’s really blown me away and reminded me of how we need to be showing up for our organizations, our donors, and our mission.

For a month, my neighbors were knocking on doors daily, posting and reposting missing flier signs, posting daily in the neighborhood Facebook group, and were out each night calling their cat’s name. When was the last time you used this same sense of urgency and momentum when communicating with your donors? Tune into this full episode to hear how you can overcome embarrassment and other mindset blocks to step into this mindset of unwavering belief to watch your organization grow and grow some more.

    Topics:

    • What happened when one of Christina’s clients started prioritizing sending a weekly email to their subscribers and the magic of letting your subscribers in BTS.
    • What it means to be relentless and committed, especially when those around you start losing belief
    • Watching how you show up and recognizing where your belief lies in whatever it is that you’re seeking, then keeping the optimism and momentum high
    • Overcoming the feeling of embarrassment that gets in the way of unwavering belief, especially as time goes on
    • Questions to ask yourself around what would change if you channeled more momentum around hitting your goals
    • Taking time for celebrating your wins so that you can create the momentum for more.

  • 95: [Training Replay] The #1 Shift to Make to Your Lead Gen & Ask Process

I recently hosted an advanced training that was all about the number one shift to make to your lead gen and outreach strategy, and the conversation and the coaching ended up being so good that I knew I had to share some of it on the podcast today. So if you hear some prompts happening in the recording, that's why. We had a live group on and one of my clients graciously said we can share her coaching because if you're like her, she's like, this is great and all but why do I actually say, what do I say when a prospect says this? What do I say when I'm talking about our programs? What do I actually say in, leading up to, and during the meeting to actually ask for funding or to upgrade a funder? So we did live coaching and it was so good, and I think you'll find it really helpful as you start to improve upon and develop your lead gen and outreach strategy. So don't forget to take action from this training. If you need more support in doing it, more guidance, more support, more commitment, more accountability, more motivation to make it happen, that's the work we're doing in my coaching program, the Purpose & Profit Club, you can always go to the link in the show notes to hop on the waitlist.

    Topics:

    • The reminder that you don’t have to do asking one way and how to move through the different resistance that comes up when taking the action
    • Creating a plan that will help you take courageous action for the next 30 days in order to get into magnetic, attraction mode
    • Practicing leaning into a conversation instead of shutting down at the sign of rejection and allowing it to be just the beginning of growth
    • The importance of having belief in your cause, in your skillset, in whatever it is that your outreach is based on
    • Overcoming the objection from someone who says they’ve already given this year
    • Giving yourself the permission to allowing your ask to not be so formulaic and lean into personal, authentic connection
    • What to do when you’ve had to skip a day of outreach

  • 94: Donor Advised Funds: What they are and why you need to know about them with Mitch Stein

Donor Advised Funds… maybe this topic you haven’t heard of, or maybe it’s something that exudes a bit of an eye roll. Mitch Stein, Head of Strategy at Chariot, is joining me today on the podcast to flip what you think you know about Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) upside down. He says, “... being more engaged with DAF fundraising is critical. If you're not  presenting this to your donors you’re 100% missing out.” If you’re a listener of the show, I know you’d never want to leave money on the table knowingly, and this conversation will help you avoid that. Mitch is breaking down exactly what Donor Advised Funds are, how they can alleviate friction in fundraising, and some exciting innovations that are coming down the pike with fundraising technology. This episode is really exciting, and I hope that when you listen you’ll feel yourself open up to new revenues of donating.

    Topics:

    • A full break down of donor advised funds (DAF) and why they are important for nonprofit fundraising
    • Why DAFs are not only for wealthy people and how you can make them work for you no matter your income level
    • How a DAF alleviates some of the decision-making and guesswork that comes with philanthropy
    • The way that DAFs reduce the friction of giving to allow for more streamlined donations
    • The differences in the donor profiles between credit card donors and DAF donors
    • How you’re leaving hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the table if you’re not engaged with DAF fundraising
    • Exciting innovations and shifts that Mitch is forecasting in the donorship sector
    • What Mitch would say to those who are averse to intertwining different tech tools in their fundraising
    • The reminder that you shouldn’t try to be for everybody
