We've all been there; someone who had some sought of authority said something to us, which at the time sounded like good advice but later turned out to actually be bad advice.
The thing is that we only get to find out that it was terrible advice later on after we have learned and unlearned new things. Sometimes the advice is so bad that it's ridiculous.
This person could be a parent, relative, friend, teacher, etc.
What is not in doubt is that they meant well, but they didn't know any better. Maybe they came from a different generation when things were done differently, or their life experience was different.
When this advice is on things such as money, career, or other important aspects of life, then it can cost you big time.
In this episode, Eddie and I share some of the worst life and money advice we ever received. (Some of it is so RIDICULOUS, you've got to listen to it!)
We also share how we've handled some aspects of our finances and what we could have done differently today.
Pro Tip: We have an upcoming Finance Workshop where we'll share the best financial lessons we have picked along the way. Visit janellecopeland.com and The Pusher Society to learn more.
Key Takeaways
- Workshop on finances (02:55)
- What in the world (03:54)
- Who's your treasure chest? (09:27)
- Who has given you bad advice? (13:30)
- Well-meaning advice that doesn't work for you (22:05)

A lot has been happening in the Copeland household over the last few days, and we thought we should give you guys, our listeners, some update and, as always, some of the lessons we can draw from all the chaos.
For starters, we have a special little toddler staying with us. It is our nephew Adonis, and boy, is he keeping us all on our toes. It’s been a long time since we had toddlers in our house.
But being in our 40s now and having brought up 3 kids, our perspective on molding a child into a functional adult is deeper. You have to be intentional about everything you do.
That’s just one of the things we are pushing through this moment in time. Tune in to hear of the other craziness going on, and hopefully, what we can learn from it.
Key Takeaways:
- Intentionality is parenting (07:42)
- Enthusiasm is key to success (15:54)
- Sh*t everywhere (18:16)
- Chaos all over (24:49)
- Hella efficiency (25:12)
- Not my circus, not my monkeys (32:20)
- Life lesson from Jordan Copeland (34:30)

We recently watched Kanye West's Netflix documentary, Jeen-Yuhs, and decided to do a podcast episode on it due to all the learnings we can take from it.
While we may not all be his fans, there is no doubt that we can apply some of these lessons in our life.
If you know anything about Kanye West, then you'll know that the man is not short of confidence. His extreme confidence and self-belief are significant factors for his success in music and business. Even when not many people believed in him, his self-belief did not waver. This is perhaps the most important lesson we can take.
How will other people believe in you if you don't believe in yourself?
Another important lesson and something we see a lot in our coaching calls is the tendency of some entrepreneurs to just sit around and wait for other people to validate their products. The lesson here is to appoint yourself as the best, then put in the work to be the best.
In this episode, we're sharing ten tips we can all learn from Kanye West's UNPRECEDENTED level of self-confidence.
It is a fascinating and great episode you don't wanna miss!
Key Takeaways:
- Confidence is the missing element (03:19)
- You got to be super audacious (06:58)
- Have a support system (10:11)
- Courage to look foolish (13:04)
- Unmatched work ethic – practice practice practice (16:32)
- Move with urgency towards your opportunities (18:35)
- Speak and act as if (21:14)
- Vocalize it and visualize it (26:18)
- Unwavering self-belief (32:33)
- Self-appoint/ordain yourself as the best (35:33)
- Understand your own value (38:40)

If you are like Eddie and I, you are always working on improving yourself to be a better person, run your business better and have better relationships.
To do so, you have to be brave enough to invest in yourself. This can be through free resources, courses, masterminds, etc.
The key is to take the risk and bet on yourself to achieve greatness.
Anytime you make an investment in yourself, whether it’s a course or a mastermind, the effort you put to follow that investment will surely get a return.
One of the best investments we ever made on ourselves was a $14k mastermind. This was a pivotal moment because we didn’t have this amount of money.
We had to be brave and decide to focus on what we might become after this. It was one of the best decisions we ever made in hindsight because it was a turning point for us and our business.
So for you, our friend, the question we ask you in this episode is, when was the last time you bet on yourself? When was the last time you were brave?
Tune in and learn how to invest in yourself today!
Cheers 🍻to betting on yourself.
Key Takeaways:
- What in the world (02:35)
- When in your life were you most brave (11:11)
- The powerful thing about fear (18:15)
- Getting to the right state of mind to tackle fear (18:15)
- How to approach fearful situations (30:22)
- The story of a $14K mastermind (31:18)
- How to invest in yourself (38:38)
- Betting on yourself more often (45:23)
- Focus on what you will become, not what you get (47:57)
