The charter school network Career and Success Academy is opening a new high school in South Bend this fall. Wednesday's announcement is for a 150 student school in the former old Temple Beth-El building at 305 West Madison. The current interim head of the La Lumiere private school in LaPorte County, Andrew Hoyt, will be head of the new school, which says it will accept students on a first-come, first-served basis. The Career and Success Network already operates two local charter schools: Career Academy serving grades 6 through 12, and Success Academy, an elementary school. Another elementary school is in the works in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs.

Pope Francis is in a hospital in Rome with a respiratory infection. The pontiff reportedly had trouble breathing for the last few days, and he’ll remain in the hospital for a few days. He has canceled audiences through Friday, hoping he will be able to keep his Holy Week plans in place this weekend. That is by no means certain this morning.

Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul Thursday blocked a unanimous consent vote to pass a bill to ban Tik Tok. Missouri Republican Josh Hawley wanted it passed without a vote, but Paul says Americans should have the freedom to decide on their own whether to use Tik Tok. The Biden administration and others in Congress say Tik Tok is a national security threat because it is owned by a Chinese company.

The weather this morning would make you wonder, but it is spring, and Major League Baseball returns today. The Chicago Cubs open at Wrigley Field this afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers, while the White Sox open on the road tonight in Houston against the Astros.

NBA basketball: the Chicago Bulls lost at home to the LA Lakers, 121-110. In Indianapolis, the Indiana Pacers fell to the Milwaukee Bucks, 149-136.

Tonight in hockey: the Blackhawks host the St. Louis Blues in Chicago. The Detroit Redwings are at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.
