The South Bend Common Council is expected to forward three names recommended for the role of Director of the Community Police Review Board. There are five finalists from a list of 50 applicants, and Mayor James Mueller will appoint the new director after the council recommends three finalists.

A new bill in the US Senate would ban hidden fees in concert ticket prices. The Junk Fee Prevention Act could change the way concert tickets are sold by reducing added fees that inflate ticket prices. This legislation would require companies to “clearly and conspicuously” display the total price of a ticket with all fees included. Violators could be punishes by the Federal Trade Commission or Attorneys General in individual states.

The Flint Water Crisis settlement has been formally approved by a judge and residents are one step closer to receiving compensation. The $626 million agreement with the State of Michigan, the City of Flint, and others approved Monday. Eighty percent of the money would go to people who were minors when exposed to contaminated water in Flint, while another 18% would go to adult claims and property damage claims.

Multiple reports say Penn State Basketball coach Micah Shrewsbury will be the next coach at Notre Dame, replacing Mike Brey, who stepped down this month after 23 seasons. In his second season at Penn State, Shrewsbury posted a 23-and-14 record and a second round NCAA Tournament appearance.

Consultants charged with recommending future plans for South Bend Schools in light of continuing enrollment declines are recommending closing Clay High School and Warren Elementary, along with other changes in how school buildings are used. The school board will have the final say on whether or when it all happens, but under the recommendation, Clay would be open one more year and close in June of 20-24. Students would transfer to other South Bend Schools, and it's not clear what would happen to employees at Clay and Warren.

Another atmospheric river off the Pacific Ocean is expected across Southern California tonight and tomorrow, dropping another four inches of rain, and likely causing more flooding due to already soaked ground that can't absorb any more water right now. About 11 thousand people live in areas with mandatory evacuation orders in place.

Amazon is being sued over body scan technology in its stores. A new class action suit claims the company failed to alert New York City customers they were being monitored by technology that tracks their bodies' shapes and sizes as well as their palm prints. The local law requiring notification was passed in 20-21.

Advocates for Portage Manor have a couple of months to get a plan together that will persuade county government not to close its only publicly owned residential facility for poor and handicapped people. A group of advocates is working on plans for who will own the facility and how it will be funded. The County Council last week delayed a vote on closing Portage Manor for 60 days to give the group some time to come up with a plan.

Swiss banking giant UBS is buying rival Credit Suisse for around 3 billion dollars, reportedly about 60% less than the bank is worth in a bid to protect the country's economy and the world banking system. Credit Suisse shareholders will take the hit, after confidence in Credit Suisse collapsed last week when it admitted to poor bookkeeping that hid losses.

A frozen fruit recall involves an organic tropical fruit blend sold at Trader Joe's stores nationwide and organic strawberries sold under five different brand names including Costco's Kirkland Signature and Aldi's Simply Nature. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there have been five cases of Hepatitis A, all in Washington state, with all five patients reportedly having eaten frozen organic strawberries.

Notre Dame is planning a solar power generating field in a vacant field along State Route 933 just off the west side of the campus. It's another step in the university's push toward energy independence. Work is expected to begin this summer, and it should be operating in about two years. Notre Dame has set a goal of net-zero campus carbon emissions by 20-60.

The New York Times reports this morning that Chinese leader Xi Jinpeng will visit Russia and President Vladimir Putin next week, a visit that could have significant consequences for Russia's war on Ukraine. Ford is recalling more than a million cars over a brake fluid hose issue. The recall affects Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZs sold between 2013 and 2018.
