Michigan's House of Representatives voted Wednesday evening to repeal the state's Right to Work law, passed by Republicans in 20-13 during former Governor Rick Snyder's administration. If it passes the Senate and Governor Gretchen Whitmer approves it, the measure will restore labor union's rights to charge dues to people they represent. Democrats say it restores the right to union representation. Republicans say it would stifle competition and suffocate economic development.

The CEO of American Airlines tells pilots that they will match recent pay increases at Delta. Delta's pilots ratified a four-year contract last week with 34% in cumulative raises. CEO Robert Isom promised the "same profit-sharing formula" to American's pilots in a Tuesday message, as well as better scheduling. With airlines profitable again after the pandemic, workers are trying to make up for lost wages.

Conference tournaments continue in college basketball this week, leading up to selection Sunday, when the NCAA Tournament field will be announced. In the Big Ten last night, Ohio State over Wisconsin, 65-57, and Minnesota downed Nebraska, 78-75. Today, Michigan leads off the day at noon against Rutgers, the first of four games.

In the ACC, quarterfinals are today, leading off with Wake Forest against Miami at noon.

NBA: the Chicago Bulls won at Denver, 117-96. Tonight, the Pacers host Houston in Indy, and the Pistons take on Charlotte in Detroit.

In hockey: the Redwings edged the Chicago Blackhawks in Detroit, 4-to-3.

Police have made an arrest in the death of a security guard at a downtown South Bend parking garage. 62 year old Robert Pulliam was shot and killed in the Wayne Street garage Sunday night, but a picture of a license plate on his phone helped lead police to 33-year old Derrick Pratcher in Michigan, where he was arrested Monday. Pratcher is charged with murder and other charges.

A rare sight in Washington Monday, as leading Democratic and Republican Senators both took aim at Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell's warning that interest rates will have to go higher to check inflation. Progressive Elizabeth Warren and conservative Joe Kennedy both charged that the rate increases will put up to two million people out of work. Powell's response, in a nutshell: inflation hurts everybody, not just those who lose jobs, and it has to be dealt with.

Attorney General Merrick Garland is filing an antitrust lawsuit to block JetBlue's $3.8 billion merger with Spirit Airlines. He says the merger would limit consumer options and increase airfares. The merger would create the nation's fifth-largest airline. New York, Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia also joined the lawsuit.

Mike Brey's 23 seasons leading Notre Dame basketball came to an end last night, as the Irish lost to Virginia Tech 67-64 in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, ending their season.

The Big Ten Tournament opens tonight in Indianapolis, with Ohio State against Wisconsin, and Minnesota facing Nebraska. Michigan and Michigan State play tomorrow, Purdue and Indiana on Friday.

NBA: The Detroit Pistons took a 119-117 home loss to the Washington Wizards. The Chicago Bulls are at Denver tonight.

South Bend's west side school empowerment zone is looking at an expanded calendar that would spread school out over the year, the same number of school days with longer breaks during the normal school year. They resist calling it year round school, but the summer break would be shortened to five weeks, with nine week school blocks and three week breaks the rest of the year. The board of the Empowerment Zone, which includes Navarre Middle School and four feeder elementaries, will make a decision for the next school year this spring.

Norfolk Southern Railroad is rolling out new safety measures following its third train derailment in just over a month. This just hours after a 28-car train jumped the tracks Saturday in Springfield, Ohio. Most of the plan involves bearing detectors, which are installed along the track to give real-time warnings to crews. Norfolk Southern's CEO is due at a Senate hearing Thursday.

In New York City, police are now asking customers to take off masks before entering businesses. The issue is crime. Police say once they've shown their face, customers can put masks back on. A masked robber last week killed a bodega worker.

Purdue basketball remains fifth in the latest AP College Basketball poll released Monday. The Indiana Hoosiers dropped four spots to 19th. Both have double byes in this week's Big Ten Tournament, playing their first games on Friday.

The Notre Dame women fall one spot to 11th in the women's AP poll, as they await word this Sunday on their NCAA tournament seeding and destination. The Irish men are in the ACC Tournament tonight at 7 against Virginia Tech in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Another Norfolk Southern train derailed in Ohio over the weekend, this time in Springfield, across the state from East Palestine. We're told no hazardous materials were on this train. No injuries or safety concerns for neighbors are being reported so far. This is the fourth derailment in Ohio in the last five months.

Indiana State Police are starting a memorial fund for the family of a trooper killed in the line of duty Friday. Master Trooper James Bailey was putting out stop sticks on I 69 near Auburn when he was hit by the suspect's car. That driver is in custody. Funds raised will go to Bailey's widow.

President Biden assured Black Americans he will continue the fight for civil rights in a visit Sunday to Selma, Alabama. He was there to commemorate the 58th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday," considered a turning point in the civil rights movement. The ceremony was held at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where marchers were beaten in 1965 by state troopers.

In sports, Notre Dame women's basketball now awaits the decision of the NCAA selection committee on its NCAA Tournament matchups and destination, after falling to Louisville in the ACC semifinals over the weekend.

The Irish men are in their conference tournament tomorrow after ending the regular season Saturday with am 87-64 loss to Clemson.

In the Big Ten, Purdue closed its season with a 76-71 home win over Illinois. Indiana edged Michigan in Bloomington, 75-73 in overtime. Saturday, Michigan State beat Ohio State, 84-78.

Irish hockey lost two of three at home to Michigan State. The final Sunday was 4-to-2.

In the NHL: the Detroit Redwings lost at Philly, 3-to-1. The Blackhawks host Ottawa tonight in Chicago.
