The city of South Bend has come through with American Rescue Plan funding for a former motel being used as a residential facility for homeless people. The county last month refused to authorize another round of funding for Motels4Now, which has been using the former Knights Inn on Lincolnway West, but the city is now pledging money to keep it open while they work to build a permanent facility. Over a hundred people currently using the facility will be able to stay for now.

A federal Judge says former Vice President Mike Pence must testify before a grand jury investigating former President Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. Pence was claiming he’s shielded from having to testify by the Constitution because of his position at the time as part of the legislative branch. The judge says no, and says Trump has no standing to intervene. It's not clear whether Pence will appeal.

Researchers have developed a unique way for people with type 1 diabetes to regulate their blood sugar levels. Instead of an insulin pump, the team has developed an implantable fuel cell that uses extra blood sugar to generate electrical energy that can be used to release insulin into the blood. The existing device is only a prototype, and they’re looking for a partner to bring it to market.

NBA: the Chicago Bulls host the LA Lakers at the United Center tonight. The Indiana Pacers are at home against Milwaukee.

Hockey: the Chicago Blackhawks lost at Dallas, 4-to-1. The Redwings downed the Pittsburgh Penguins in Detroit, 7-to-4.

Spring training baseball wrapped up in Florida and Arizona Tuesday. All 30 Major League teams open the 20-23 season tomorrow.

The latest mass shooting in America came yesterday at Covenant Presbyterian, a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, where a person who was once a student there killed three kids and three staff members before being shot and killed by police. They say the shooter was 28 year old Audrey Elizabeth Hale, born female but identifying as male. Two nine year olds and an 8 year old were killed, along with a substitute teacher, a custodian, and the headmistress. Flags on federal property will fly at half staff through Friday to honor the victims.

The South Bend council has sent two names to Mayor James Mueller to serve as Police Review Board director. Mueller will choose between South Bend School Board member Stephanie Ball, and YMCA Director of Urban Youth Services, Pastor Charles King. Both graduated from South Bend high schools, and have extensive local ties. Mueller's office says he will interview the candidates soon, and once he decides, the council will start naming people to the board.

The Disney Company is set to begin layoffs this week that will reportedly affect Disney’s media and distribution, parks and resorts, and ESPN. CEO Bob Iger reports it's the first of three rounds of cuts that will total about 7,000 employees. The belt-tightening is part of a broader effort to trim corporate spending and streamline operations. Iger has also said he might consider selling the streaming service Hulu.

The women's Final Four in college basketball is now set, after defending champ South Carolina and Virginia Tech claimed the final two spots Monday night. Friday's semifinals will pit Virginia Tech against LSU, and South Carolina against Iowa. The winners will play for the title Sunday.

Men's Final Four semifinals are Saturday, with the championship game on Monday night.

In Nappannee, NorthWood boys basketball celebrated their first-ever state title Monday, after the Panthers won the title Saturday in Indianapolis.

NBA: Dallas over the Indiana Pacers in Indy, 127-104. Milwaukee downed the Pistons in Detroit, 126-117. The Chicago Bulls play the Clippers in L-A tonight.

At least 26 people are dead down south after a series of tornadoes over the last few days. The small town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi was pretty much leveled by one of the dozen twisters that tore through Mississippi and Alabama. Parts of Georgia are also under a state of emergency from severe thunderstorms., where a couple of Tigers got out of their zoo cages due to storm damage. The tigers have been recaptured.

Donald Trump's lawyer said Sunday the former President's verbal and social media attacks on Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg were quote "ill-advised." On NBC's Meet the Press, Joe Tacopina said he's referring to a recent Truth Social post where Trump appears to have shared an image of himself holding a baseball bat next to a separate image of Bragg’s head. That post has since been deleted. Tacopina also claimed Trump was following former lawyer Michael Cohen's advice when he signed off on payments to Stormy Daniels.

Idaho will now allow execution by firing squad. Governor Brad Little signed the legislation Friday after the state experienced difficulty in securing drugs needed to carry out lethal injections. Idaho is now the fifth state in the nation to allow death by firing squad. The law goes into effect July 1st.

The Notre Dame women's basketball season came to an end Saturday in an NCAA Sweet 16 round loss to Maryland, 76-to-59. The Irish finish the season with a 27-and-6 record.

The men's final four is set after Miami, Connecticut, Florida Atlantic, San Diego State all won regional finals over the weekend. National semifinals are Saturday night, the title game a week from tonight.

NBA: the Chicago Bulls beat the Lakers in LA, 118-108. The Indiana Pacers host Dallas tonight, and the Detroit Pistons are at home against Milwaukee.

Outgoing St. Joseph County Health Officer Dr. Robert Einterz made it clear in a farewell Speech Thursday eveing that it was resistance from county political leaders to investing in better health outcomes that pushed him to leave. County Commission President Carl Baxmeyer agrees he and Einterz do not see eye to eye on some issues, but wished him well as he leaves. Dr. Joseph Cerbin will take over April 1st, but has said he can only stay in the job for four months.

Tik Tok's CEO took a grilling on Capitol Hill Thursday from lawmakers of both parties worried about security issues due to Chinese ownership of the social media platform. The CEO says Tik Tok is moving all US data and operations to the US, operated by US companies with Amercian employees. Lawmakers say they still worry the Chinese government can still access information on US users if it wants to. About 150 million Americans use Tik Tok regularly.

Utah has become the first state to require teens to get parental permission before joining social media sites. The law signed by the Governor Thursday imposes a digital curfew, blocking sites for minors past 10:30 p.m. It'll also blackout ads for underage accounts and compel social media companies to allow parents access to their children's profiles. Critics wonder if it's possible to enforce the law.

Michigan State bowed out of the NCAA tournament last night in a 98-93 overtime loss to Kansas State. Other games last night: Florida Atlantic over Tennessee, UConn over Arkansas, and Gonzaga over UCLA. Four more Sweet 16 games are on tap tonight, and by Sunday night, we will know the Final Four.
