The central theme of this Queer Money episode revolves around the imperative of financial self-advocacy, a concept emphasized by our guest, Darcy, from the acclaimed platform We Want Guac. We delve into the significance of advocating for oneself, particularly within the LGBTQ community, where historical marginalization often leads to hesitance in asserting one's worth. The discussion uncovers how self-advocacy not only empowers individuals but also serves as a catalyst for broader societal change. We explore various practical strategies for self-advocacy, such as negotiating salaries and addressing financial discrepancies, underscoring that effective advocacy can enhance one’s financial and personal well-being. Ultimately, this episode seeks to inspire listeners to embrace self-advocacy as a crucial tool for achieving financial independence and fostering community empowerment.
Self-care is of utmost concern for many folks today, but one area that we often forget when it comes to taking care of ourselves is being our own financial self advocate.
What does it mean to do this and what are some examples?
This week on Queer Money, Darcy of the We Want Guac blog joins us to share her insights, personal story about doing this and some help on how we can all improve at being our own self advocate financially.

But college is not your only option. What if you could skip the student loan debt and secure a high-paying job in the trades?
On this episode of Queer Money®, Morgan Mentzer, Cofounder and Executive Director of Reckoning Trade Project joins us to explain why more LGBT folks should consider becoming trades workers, exploring what it means to work a trade and what jobs are included in the industry.
