We close out our second season with a bang with this live episode of Race Bait, produced as part of the Steppenwold LookOut series. We were joined by Heidi Stevens, who writes the popular Balancing Act column for the Chicago Tribune, and Second City Alum and local actor/producer/director Antoine McKay, whose long list of tv and films credits iincludes recurring roles on "Patriot", and as Bunkie Williams on the smash hit, "Empire." It's a rollicking discussion in front of a sold-out house, featuring an audience bias test and the debut of Paul's highly-triggering game show, "Trump or NOT Trump"!

Paul and Tania talk with Rina Campbell; an expert in racial sensitivity training and racial bias. She is half white, half Filipina, married to a German man and went to highschool with Paul's wife. We talk about her experiences in a household with two ethnicities, going to all White schools and code-switching. She also shares why some white people are uncomfortable identifying as white within affinity groups. @40:55 Paul makes a great point about the distinction between shame and guilt. Tania wonders when it comes to the police and racial bias training Tania asks, "Can we undo our cognitive responses? Because they are the ones with he guns."

In this episode Tania and Paul talk about and celebrate the genius of "This Is America" the video by Childish Gambino that is an example of why art matters especially in the age of Trump. Tania asks, "Can Black people go anywhere in this country anymore?" and Paul says, "White people nut up. Don't be fragile...We gotta call this shit out." Big announcement coming next week!

We talk about the men being arrested at Starbucks, whether Starbucks can really do unconcious bias training in half a day and what Tania would tell Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz if she had the chance. We grapple with what really needs to happen to change the script on racism. Tania got a response to her email from reps at the Lincoln Museum and it isn't good. Paul has a realization that is as he says, "as clear as the white on my face", grows weary and sings a bit of a song. We announce the next book for our "No Judgement Book Club" and we tease a big announcement that we'll be sharing in a few weeks!

Tania tells a tale about her family's problematic trip to the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, Paul tells a tale about his much less problematic trip to the Robert Russa Moton Museum in Virgina which sparks conversation about, "Who lives, who dies who tells our story?" when it comes to slavery and civil rights history. We talk desegregation vs. integration, Tania takes an official stand on the n-word that may be suprising and Paul manages to once again say, "Black don't crack," much to Tania's dismay. BUT he does, "Take the note."
