Before Bob Doty coached Murray State track & Field, he was an outstanding sprinter in his own right. In 1959, he was arguably one of the fastest 30 humans on the planet. Doty was part of a 4x100 team at MSU that was ranked fourth in the nation in 1965. He went on to a 30 year teaching career at his alma mater in St. Elmo, Illinois and was later inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2012 and teams with his daughter, Jill (inducted in 2007), as the only father/daughter duo in the MSU shrine. Out of Oxford, Ohio, shortstop Noah Zipko was Murray State’s every day shortstop from 2012-13. While his baseball results were modest, his dedication to MSU Baseball and his teammates was top level. His success on the diamond speaks to the value of intercollegiate athletics and the education offered at Murray State. Zipko was named to the inaugural Racer Young Alumni Under 40 class for 2020 for his success in the Real Estate field. An instructor in Murray State’s department of physical education for 30-plus years, Ken Purcell has also enjoyed a side career of assisting on game days. Performing many duties over the years including, official scorekeeper for basketball, football Chain Gang leader and track & field official, Purcell has a unique perspective. He was head women’s tennis coach for the Racers in the 1980’s and won the program's first OVC championship. The world of sports needs people like Ken Purcell. Coming out of Madisonville Ky., Jaiveon Eaves of Murray State men's basketball saw action in 30 games last season as a junior and as a senior, he recently set his career-high scoring game twice in a week. Coming to Murray state from John A. Logan College, Eaves was named National Junior College Athletics Association Second Team All-America.

Today on the program, Eaves talks of how Murray State is the place for him and about his transformation to getting into the best shape of his life.
