hi! i've missed you!! here's a casual little catch up episode while I drive to work in my kia soul! so much to catch up on, so much on the brain. i've missed podcasting so much but life has been so bananas! so I thought what better way to share my life with you than while driving in the good ol kia soul, thats right the TEXAS KIA SOUL.
WELCOME BACK!!! I have missed you and have the entire summer and more to fill you in on! From graduation, to the eras tour, to the renaissance tour, to DC and LA as well. But of course also thinking about how everything is changing, how that feels and what does that look like and mean in this transitional period, this summer of gimmicks. Life has been so kooky bananas!!

What if we were to uproot the music education licensure system to make pre-service teachers of color attaining their degree and license to teach more accessible. In this episode we take a look at the inequities pre-service teachers of color face, trying to teach to a system embedded in Western European curriculum and financial burden. This podcast is a manifesto for my International Human Rights Class at Berklee College of Music. Thank you James!

TW: Grief.
Today I want to talk with you about someone very important to me, my late mentor Jarritt Ahmed Sheel. I made a promise to myself that I would only come back to podcasting when I felt ready to record the first episode back which had to be in honor of Jarritt. I want everyone to know Jarritt the way I, and so many who love him, know him. Here's to the man who created community with everyone in his orbit. Rest in peace Jarritt, I love you!

Jarritt's wonderful wife, Antonia Sheel, along with Jarritt’s colleagues at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, are working to establish a scholarship and several other initiatives to honor the memory and work of Jarritt. Jarritt worked with countless people from all walks of life during his time as an educator, band leader, mentor and friend. His reach was impactful and meaningful to so many. Please consider joining in these efforts.
Our goal is to raise $60,000! This will allow us to create an endowed scholarship fund as well as create a lecture series named in Jarritt’s honor. While this will be an ongoing effort with the first goal being to raise the minimum $10K to establish the scholarship by mid April 2023, every amount counts!
Also, consider asking if your employer would match your gift. If you have a business, consider making a tax deductible contribution. You will be supporting the growth and development of students as well as fostering powerful conversations around music education. If you would like to donate to the scholarship at Berklee in memory of Jarritt Ahmed Sheel, please visit: Berklee.edu/giving (https://www.berklee.edu/giving) and designate this scholarship (You may have to click OTHER and write in his name below that: Jarritt Ahmed Sheel Memorial Scholarship). OR Checks may be sent to Berklee College of Music, 1140 Boylston Street, MS-855 IA, Boston, MA 02115, please note on the check "Jarritt Ahmed Sheel Memorial Scholarship".

HAPPY AAPI MONTH!! Wooo!!! This episode we talk with two of my friends from Houston, Alex and Vivian, about 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' and just being Asian! They came to pop in the city for the day so we had to record and ep. It was so nice to speak to them just about all our internal dialogues growing up in the same area and being Asian, our thoughts about the movie, and all good things!
