In part three of our "The Gospel of John" series, Pastor Caleb Culver shares from John 2 and 3 about how we're supposed to respond when doubt and pain enter our lives.
How does Jesus minister to someone who “knows”?
1. Conceiving divine revelation (Truly Truly)
2. Confounding the wisdom of man (You must be born again)
3. Confronting his doubts (asking him to believe)
Nicodemus was born into 3 things:
1. God’s covenant people (Grace through election)
2. Prestige (Grace through earning)
3. The law (Grace through ethic)
Nicodemus isn’t saved by his own doing, but Jesus’s own dying.
The world is looking for reformation, the Father is looking for regeneration.
Doubts: it’s okay to have them, it’s not okay to hold them.
Nicodemus said “I know” but Jesus said “You don’t believe.”
If you want to be free from your pain, you have to reveal it.
Mary saw Jesus wear her pain.
Mary did two things we have to do with our doubts and pain:
1. She exposed her pain and doubts to the light of day. He cannot heal what you conceal.
2. She was at Jesus’s feet with no plan B.
