What the Early Church Really Believed About the End TimesIn this episode of Spirit & Truth, Pastor Lee Cummings sits down with Dr. Michael J. Svigel — theologian, professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, and author of The Fathers on the Future: A 2nd-Century Eschatology for the 21st-Century Church.

Together, they unpack what the early Church Fathers actually believed about the return of Christ, the rapture, the millennium, and the end of the world.

Drawing from Scripture, historical theology, and decades of research, Dr. Svigel helps clarify common misconceptions and reveals a surprisingly consistent pre-millennial perspective in the second-century church, especially through voices like Irenaeus of Lyons.

📘 Topics include:

• What the early church believed about Christ’s return and the millennium

• The roots of pre-millennialism — and how it differs from modern versions

• Was the rapture invented in the 1800s?

• How culture, politics, and theology influenced end-times views

• Why it all still matters today

📚 Learn More:Dr. Svigel’s book is a decades-long labor of love connecting the theological legacy of the early church with the eschatological hope we hold today.
