COSATU has called for an urgent jobs summit to discuss what they call shocking and depressing unemployment figures released by Stats SA. This after President Jacob Zuma met with labour and business leaders to discuss job creation and economic growth in our country. The Department of Trade and Industry is to launch a dedicated gas industrialisation unit next week to drive the latest industrial policy action plan (ipap. )The programme is in collaboration with other government departments and industry stakeholders. An action plan for the unit has already been developed by a working group consisting of departmental officials, industry experts and representatives of Sasol, working closely with the Department of Energy. The South African Police Service says it will assess the seriousness of an alleged plot to kill Public Protector Thuli Madonsela - before deciding whether to beef up her security. SAPS says it is working with its various structures including crime intelligence and the Western Cape Provincial Commissioner's office to investigate claims made to Madonsela by a whistleblower that a Western Cape gang boss had been paid seven hundred and fourty thousand rand to arrange a hit on her. What, if anything, will the Constitutional Court do about our less than perfect national voters roll? The clock is ticking for a solution, as the voters roll must be certified by the end of May in order to be ready for the August municipal elections. The IEC wants the Constitutional Court to intervene after the Electoral Court set aside the voters roll for the Tlokwe by-elections. The families of two people drowned at Crossmoor outside Chatswoth south of Durban are still searching FOR the bodies of their loved ones. Four people drowned when they tried to cross the river on Friday night coming from a church service. The heavy rains also flooded houses in areas such as Isipingo, Lamontville and other areas around Durban. The South African Democratic Teachers Union is threatening to take Basic Education Department to court over its report into the jobs-for-cash scandal. The report, which was first supposed to be released in February, was to have been released on Friday last week, but was again delayed for a further two weeks. The task team was established to investigate allegations that Sadtu members were selling principal and deputy principal posts for up to 30 thousand and more at schools in the North West, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
