Gauteng government has condemned what it calls the "rowdy behaviour" of a group of meter taxi operators. This after MEC for Roads and Transport in Gauteng, Ishmael Vadi was intimidated following an announcement that his department is to start issuing licenses to Uber drivers and regulate them like metered taxis in the province. The move has angered some operators who wants Uber drivers not to be allowed to operate at all. The recent gang violence in the northern areas of Port Elizabeth, has attracted the attention of DA leader Mmusi Maimane. He paid a visit to the Ruiters family whose two-year-old daughter was killed when a stray bullet hit her in their yard in Helenvale. The EFF leader, Julius Malema, says if his party wins the Cape Town Metro, it will expropriate land without compensation. He was addressing party members in a packed Gugulethu Sport Complex on the Cape Flats. Malema says they are willing to test the Constitution in court regarding the land issue. Schooling is today ( Monday 16/05/16) expected to resume in over one hundred schools in Vuwani and surrounding villages in Limpopo. Residents have been protesting against the inclusion of their areas into a new municipality. The violent protest action has left twenty schools gutted and vandalised. The Presidency has dismissed reports that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan faces an imminent arrest. The Sunday Times newspaper has reported that the Hawks want Gordhan to be charged of "espionage" in a case related to the activities of the SA Revenue Service's so-called "rogue unit".
